“Rauner immigration talk, then and now”
Thursday, Aug 30, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller * Bernie’s latest piece is well-done and just has too much in it to do it justice with a few excerpts here. So, go read the whole thing and then report back in comments.

Rauner is pre-occupied with shoring up his right flank. Pretty late in the battle for that in an Illinois general election, as there historically haven’t been enough votes at that end of the line to win.
If he’s polling at 29%, it indicates he’s being overwhelmed in the center and on the left.

Desperate times (for Rauner) call for desperate measures. I’m surprised he hasn’t called Kris Kobach to borrow his gun-modified Jeep.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 30, 18 @ 9:57 am:
This is an incumbent with no constituency.
Rauner needs to find people to like him.
This won’t help.
It won’t help because you can’t decide 68 days out as an incumbent you need to find… a constituency.

Hmmm. Rauner reaches across the aisle on this issue and abortion, and gets his head handed to him in a bipartisan fashion by Democrats and Republicans alike.
Sounds like he learned not to do that again. Let’s see how his critics who claim he is stubborn and has no learning skills react to that.
Negatively, I presume. That’ll teach him.
May explain those record setting vetoes this year.

One puts a mandate on law enforcement, the other doesn’t. Seems reasonable why they’d be ok with one and not the other.
- Leigh John-Ella - Thursday, Aug 30, 18 @ 10:30 am:
The “mandate” on law enforcement is that they finish a victims paperwork within 90 business days so the paperwork can go to the feds to be considered for a federal U or T visa set aside in extremely limited numbers for victims of human trafficking and similar crimes.
And while they wait for their paperwork to be processed by police Rauner is providing them state cash assistance, health care and other benefits/assistance under a law he signed two years ago.
It’s almost like his administration has no idea what it did two years ago, or a year ago.
So I don’t understand how he’d be OK with one and not the other.
Turnover will do that.

Carterville, well that’s just a stone’s throw to that University that doesn’t like cheerleaders taking a knee in protest.

Nope. Keep up.
Everyone learned with the budget (152-20) that Rauner’s word isn’t worth anything, so cutting him out allowed governing to happen.
No, no… you’re welcome.
Rauner isn’t a victim.
- VanillaMan - Thursday, Aug 30, 18 @ 11:13 am:
Rauner is too late to catch the Trump immigration bandwagon and watching him chase it is pretty cringy.
- VanillaMan - Thursday, Aug 30, 18 @ 11:15 am:
Rauner mocked the deplorables until he discovered that he has no friends. Rauner is nobody’s friend.

Love the Edgar opinion.
Quite captures that pre-NAFTA GOP vibe from 1990.

After reading the Edgar piece I remember why I despised him so much.

Me too, VanillaMan.
How does someone veto a bill that helps human trafficking victims?
