Today, in the race for Illinois’ Sixth Congressional District, the DCCC announced a new television ad hitting Rep. Peter Roskam for falling in line with President Trump and endlessly attacking affordable health care for families, seniors, and women in his district. The ad will begin airing immediately in the district.
The ad, “Fallen,” highlights Roskam’s record of voting 94% of the time with President Trump, and his repeated votes to weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions, make older Americans and women pay more for their health care, and leave 30,000 of his own constituents without health coverage.
“Rep. Peter Roskam is deeply out of step with his constituents, and they are the ones paying for it. Rather than put his district first, Roskam has fallen in line with President Trump and voted repeatedly to weaken protections for pre-existing conditions, raise health care costs, and leave 30,000 of his constituents without health care coverage.” – DCCC Spokesperson Jacob Peters
Not to say it won’t work. I have no idea on that front. President Trump ain’t exactly popular in suburbia. But the spot looks like everything the D-trip has ever done - and they don’t exactly have a wonderful track record over there.
Career Politician Peter Roskam’s supposed to work for us. Instead he’s been a rubber stamp for Donald Trump. Roskam voted repeatedly to gut health care…weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions…and to allow insurance companies to charge older Americans and women more for their care. Roskam even voted to kick 30,000 people in his district off their health insurance. Peter Roskam’s fallen in line with Donald Trump…and we’ve…fallen behind.
“Cookie” and “Cutter,” yes, but perhaps for people that eats and breaths politics, but for voters not fully tuned in with everything else but to the issues that may affect’em…then yes..Roskam’s district may be affected by the attempts to get rid of ACA.
Cookie cutter indeed, but even in Wheaton Trump was beat pretty badly by HRC. Driving around Wheaton, which is the heart of Roskam’s district, Casten’s people have been working it for months. If yard signs mean anything (that is a big if) Casten’s people are more motivated than Roskam’s by 4 to 1.
More important than highlighting Roskam voting against the interests of his district, is highlighting his unwillingness to explain his votes or take questions from his constituents.
The problem with these ads is that they are so alike and useless people tune them out. But media buyers get a good cut so DCCC keeps spending the money that way.
“cookie” and “cutter” may be true…but not to Joe and Jane in the district watching the ad. To them it’s on point.

May be cookie cutter, but it’s true about Roskam. If he meets with constituents, the tone is always condescending as if he’s the only smart person in the room. Oh, and the Kochs.
I’d love to see the identical ad against Randy Hultgren in our district. He keeps trying to distance himself from Trump’s behavior, but not the GOP legislation that’s killing regular citizens.

Those are exactly the right message points for the district.

I don’t think Trump agrees with himself 94% of the time.
Roskam comes across as more of an apparatchik than a leader. If we dump him now, maybe we get somebody better in 2020.

Speaking of Rahm Emanuel…

Straight forward and easy to understand message which should resonate in the district.
