Is Sam McCann just looking for his taxpayer-funded job in the Pritzker Administration?
We don’t know, but it may explain why he sent out attack mailers on a commonsense conservative like Tom Morrison.
Yesterday, mailers from Sam McCann’s campaign hit in the 54th House District portraying State Representative Tom Morrison as a Rauner Puppet. The mailers were funded by union-backed State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Sam McCann.
These attacks on Morrison demand a response. They are patently false. Tom Morrison is one of the few state legislators in Springfield who stands up for conservative values every time they are under attack in the Illinois House. He is one of the most reliable conservative votes in Springfield on both fiscal and social issues.
Is Sam McCann working for Mike Madigan? Is he hoping to receive favorable treatment under a Governor Pritzker? Is he so clueless that he doesn’t realize how his platform is being used by the state’s vicious public sector unions? I don’t know. And I don’t really care.
McCann is lying about Morrison. Lying is not a conservative value.
Many Illinois Conservatives looking for a candidate who represented their values had found hope McCann’s candidacy. Illinois Conservatives have once again been betrayed.
* Sen. Sam McCann…
I am disappointed by the shallow political rhetoric that Jeanne Ives used in her attack against me. The hard-earned credibility from her primary campaign against Bruce Rauner is all but lost now that she has intervened as his defender, casting principles aside for political grandstanding. Legislators like Tom Morrison who are actively supporting Bruce Rauner are trying to con voters into the same bad deal and empty promises that conservative Illinoisans have suffered under for the past four years. Any legislator who stands with Rauner despite his phony RINO agenda and abandonment of conservative principles deserves to be called out for it.
The Jeanne Ives who so vehemently opposed Bruce Rauner during the primary is now too eager to put him back in the driver’s seat.
When conservatives are crying louder than ever for a change, Jeanne Ives has shown her true colors. She is not a leader, but a politician.
Tom Morrison has been supporting Bruce Rauner for more than 4 years.
Tom Morrison needs to go on the record and state whether he does or does not still support Rauner. As soon as he PUBLICLY states that he does not, I will PUBLICLY thank him for stepping up.
* And this is pretty darned funny. All four legislative leaders, including House Republican Leader Jim Durkin, attended Operating Engineers Local 150’s annual legislative banquet last night. McCann showed up as well and went live on Facebook to emphasize his point that everybody works with 150, not just him…
Illinois House and Senate RINOS… getting exposed LIVE for ALSO taking money from Local 150. Why is it okay when THEY accept a check from the union, but it’s called “Madigan Money” when Sam McCann gets support from that SAME Union?
Food for thought, folks
Conservative Party gubernatorial candidate Sam McCann collects $539,659 from the Fight Back Fund, which promotes union-friendly candidates. FBF has now provided McCann with $2.3 million this election cycle. #twillhttps://t.co/tSdasQttlI
The only one not working with labor… was Bruce Rauner.
Jeanne Ives?
The phony conservatives that support Bruce Rauner, like Mr. Morrison… Ives now supports… because being “right” makes no sense when you’re too busy trying to figure out what side you’re on…
==Sammy did what he did so he could land a high level state position==
That’s a helluva allegation. Got any proof?
Isn’t it much more likely that McCann really didn’t appreciate Rauner going after him in a primary? Isn’t it much more likely that McCann is just paying him back and fomented at the idea of being able to call Rauner a liar on television to his face?
Now, if he ends up in a state job, wouldn’t that just be icing on the cake?
Odd, Ives unleashing on Sam McCann, in that both of them have received the “Ives” treatment, i.e. Rauner using loads of weaponized money to deceive the gullible, and denigrate those who don’t obediently fall into the Raunerite line.
Sam has identified and called out a steadfast Raunerite. This is a good thing.
==Honest question: At what point are you allowed to punch someone who shoves a camera in your face repeatedly? I’m not talking press here. I’m not talking about a public meeting. It’s creepy as hell.==
Honest answer: You shouldn’t seek legal advice from a political blog. Results may vary.

I agree with all of this … and it applies to just more than Sam with the Rauner’s.
This is actually a fight over who gets to replace Rauner.
Both Ives and McCann are regional players and either of them will be replaced by one of the US ckngressional representatives in DC when one of them tires of the commute.
My sincere hope is Pritzker will, not in super-high percentages, look into non-Raunerite Republicans that are willing to work to make Illinois better, and see Pritzker as someone of good faith to a better Illinois, and those, maybe like a McCann, find a role in a Pritzker Administration, if Pritzker is victorious.
The moment we all try to be so “tribal” that any outside thoughts are intolerable, then we will have no chance in Illinois.
Raunerism took partisanship to a level beyond party or beliefs, but to agenda.
My sincere hope is Pritzker’s Crew, if JB wins, looks to better Illinois with all who want a better Illinois too…
If McCann’s goal is to defeat Rauner, he is holding serve. If it is to win the Governor’s office he needs something incredible to happen. Ives attack actually strengthens him, and labels her as a sellout. She helps the cause without having a clue. Her 15 minutes are up.
–Both Ives and McCann are regional players and either of them will be replaced by one of the US ckngressional representatives in DC when one of them tires of the commute.–
Meh, reps are by definition “regional players.” The DC life, historically, is not the path to governor.
I can only think of one who even got a primary nod for governor. He also won the Big Chair.
If your party gains 5% of the vote isn’t that party given advantages for thr following election? I’ve read that on here but can’t find what advantages are given.
That McCann video is worth the watch. I’d love to see Sam finish ahead of Rauner Nov. 6. If Rauner had no money for ads and it were a sheer beer test - Who would you rather have a beer with: Rauner or McCann? - McCann wins easy. McCann is endearingly authentic. Rauner is nauseatingly phony.
- The Dude Abides - Thursday, Oct 18, 18 @ 1:11 pm:
So much for Ives sticking to her principles. She is falling in line to help Rauner, the guy who lied about her. I never was a big fan of Ives anyway. Can you imagine anyone as extreme to the right as she is being Governor of Illinois? I can’t.
As for McCann, he voted against Rauner on one bill and tough old Bruce thought he’d make an example of him so that the rest of the party that he bought would know better than to do what Sam did. How is that working out?
Do you think if Rauner got 5-6% more votes, he would win?
It isn’t just the 5-6%. It is also about making Rauner protect his right flank in a way that keeps him from appealing to the suburban female votes that he needs so badly. He is forced to say goofy things about immigrants causing the crime problems in Chicago in order to keep his base from leaving him for McCann.
===It is also about making Rauner protect his right flank in a way that keeps him from appealing to the suburban female votes that he needs so badly. He is forced to say goofy things about immigrants causing the crime problems in Chicago in order to keep his base from leaving him for McCann.===
Well said. This is understanding the strategy in full.
Word, addition and subtraction. And they need to do a whole lot of knocking down of JB’s numbers. McCann is likely to get 3%+ even if the negative ads continue. So, Rauner gains 2-3% if that happens.
It doesn’t impact the final result which is all that matters.
Logically he should have packed it in. Emotion trumps logic—quite a few times.
If I am wrong, I’ll come on here November 7 and say so.

Very glad to see Sen. McCann get cash from the unions. Some have very deep differences with him, but he stands up for workers. Workers deserve the benefits of organized labor. There is no partisanship in having a secure economic standing and the means for a decent life.
I’d like to see a McCann ad about Rauner legalizing abortions, sanctuary cities, caving on the tax hike, big spending, or such, along the lines of Rauner, Madigan’s favorite Republican.
I love this video. They attack 150 as Madigan money as Durkin, Brady, Demmer and other GOPers show up to pay homage to 150 and its dollars. Well played Mad Sammie. Well played indeed.
JB seems to know as much as Rauner about governing and also he does not know how to make good decisions even in his current business world. Think I’ll maybe go for Sam this time around.
McCann is doing nothing but ensuring that whatever already extremely unlikely chance the Republicans had to hold this governorship doesn’t happen. Even though Rauner is awful and Ives would’ve made a better governor any day of the week, it would’ve been better to hold the governorship as a Republican than a Democrat. Whatever he does, however conservative he remains, he’s either dangerously and irresponsibly vindictive, shady and corrupt hoping to earn a seat w the Dems once Pritzker takes over, or he’s stupid, and from what little I’ve seen of him, he doesn’t seem stupid.
His campaign is extremely unproductive, everyone knows he isn’t likely to hit even 10%, much less win as a 3rd party candidate. I don’t get it.
