RSLC runs cable ad against Manar

Friday, Oct 26, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* The Republicans have spent basically nothing on Seth McMillan’s campaign against Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill). Manar even pulled his ads off of St. Louis broadcast television. And cable isn’t the best way to quickly hammer in a message unless it’s a really big buy, so I have my doubts, but maybe they’re seeing something in the president’s numbers in that area, or maybe they’re just trolling Manar…

The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) today launched a cable television ad campaign against liberal Democrat Andy Manar in Illinois Senate District 48, spotlighting his support of a 32% tax increase and support of sanctuary status for illegal immigrants.

“Working families have it hard enough without being concerned about a massive tax increase to fund the protection of illegal immigrants and special interests allied with Speaker Mike Madigan,” said Matt Walter, President of the Republican State Leadership Committee.

* The ad

* Script…

Who does politician Andy Manar serve?

Not us.

Manar votes with Mike Madigan and stands for the Chicago special interests.

It’s no wonder the Chicago Tribune says Manar voted for a thirty-two percent income tax hike, hurting middle class families, and even voted for a bill that protects those who are here illegally.

That’s Andy Manar, just another politician working for Madigan, not us.

Vote no on Mike Madigan puppet, Andy Manar.

…Adding… Such a class act, that one…

I can not wait for November 7 so all this campaigning is over.

*sigh* he’s done more for downstate schools than anyone else…..

  3. - Wow - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 9:34 am:

    Too little way too late.

  4. - The Dude Abides - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 9:37 am:

Just more of the same tired old message from the GOP. Connect anyone and everyone who is a Democrat to Madigan.

  5. - Retired Educator - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 9:38 am:

This is a waste of money. Manar is going to win this one big. Trying to tie everyone to Madigan, is a losing proposition. I don’t know how the Speaker could possibly keep all those folks he controls straight. He must have a massive rolodex. Manar is a Superstar in Illinois politics. MeMilan is a phony candidate, with nothing to sell except ultra conservative nonsense.

Kind of late in the ball game to get started, isn’t it?

  7. - Pick a Name - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 9:42 am:

The one thing that bothers me about the Manar TV ad is stating he wants to freeze property taxes.

That is so far from the truth….

  8. - zatoichi - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 9:44 am:

Do the Republicans get paid by someone for every time/place they can use the word ‘Madigan’?

  9. - Red Ranger - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 9:44 am:

All of the corporate members and individual donors to RSLC should be ticked that their money to this organization is being wasted on this ad. No membership organization that relies on dues should be “trolling” candidates at this point. Why not focus on winnable races? There are a half dozen suburban state senators that would love some “uncoordinated” help from the RSLC. Such a waste of member money; but hey, those DC guys are pretty smart!

  10. - Arsenal - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 9:50 am:

I applaud the RSLC’s effort to light money on fire.

  11. - Truth Squad - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 10:15 am:

If the SGOP’s weren’t so busy defending incumbents that are in deep trouble in the suburbs, they could have picked off Manar early. He’s super weak in that district (though the liberal cabal of CapFax commenters would make you feel otherwise.) This will prove to be one of Bill Brady’s biggest failures, especially if he loses one or all of Nybo, Curran, DeWitte, and Rooney.

  12. - Stark - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 11:22 am:

    2012: Andy Manar - 55%, Mike McElroy - 45%

    2014: Andy Manar - 56%, Linda Little - 44%

I’m sorry Truth Squad, what was that about him being super weak in a district that he’s won by a double-digit margin in back-to-back election cycles? Okay.

  13. - Retired Educator - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 11:28 am:

I predict a 15% win for Manar. The other guy has nothing of interest to the public. He is a tea Party candidate, and the tea party is dead.

  14. - Arsenal - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 11:46 am:

==He’s super weak in that district ==

He’s *vulnerable* ’cause the top of his ticket routinely gets killed in that district. But he’s won both his races by dougle digits and is relentless about working his constituents, and now he can do it with two great big accomplishments.

And frankly, the fact that SGOP chose to never put serious effort into challenging him is another sign of his strength.

That would be true if math didn’t matter. The math has not changed. The evidenced based model was not Manar’s doing. His model was very different.

I have enjoyed Manar’s trolling of Rauner and the ILGOP. These ad’s will not move the needle.

As another commenter stated..it s fun watching the ILGOP burn money.

And that Boss Bank stiffed Senate Republicans.

    It worked for Trump.

  18. - Jefferson - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 12:26 pm:

Truth teller likely believes the GOP holds the governor’s chair too. The rack for your tin hat is to the right.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 26, 18 @ 12:30 pm:

If someone didn’t know how Manar wins his district, works as hard, if not harder than anyone, and is seen by voters as one of them… if someone didn’t know that… this ad would genius.
