Thank you voters. It’s a win for democracy, Illinois, and the nation as a whole. Now let’s work together to bring back Illinois, and repudiate the divisiveness that is a product of the Citizens United decision.
I’ve never wanted someone to move to Italy so fast.
this is great news as now potential employer s/investors will see a much more stable situation for development. Nothing slows growth like instability and Rauner was the King of making everything feel unstable.
Rauner has been a nightmare to many of us. Now the nightmare will be over soon. Many worked hard to make tonight happen. Congrats to all who made this happen.
Getting ready to crack open a Yuengling I got a hold of, for the victory and h/t to OW.
Regardless of what else happens, the trouncing of Rauner is sweet justice. From the first time I met Rauner I knew he was bad news. It was a miserable time for my profession. Hopefully it gets better.
Someone said something about bringing back Illinois. Is that a joke? I don’t like Rauner, and I couldn’t be happier that we won’t have Diana as our first lady, but anyone who thinks JB is going to help the state is kidding himself/herself.
===From the first time I met Rauner I knew he was bad news.===
Ditto. And I was a Republican then. And you can only feel it so many times… like meeting Jim Oberweis and meeting Joe Walsh before you just have to give it up and realize these people are taking over and it just stinks. I hope the party learns something and I can one day again vote for Republicans.
== but anyone who thinks JB is going to help the state is kidding himself/herself ==
Its simple. JB will help the state by (a) not running the State down to business and (b) stability / consistency for 4 years. Surveys show companies values a consistent operating environment over taxes.
Other than a tax increase will Democrats get behind any reforms?
What is their plan to stop the population loss and attract business to Illinois?
Other Democratic states have significant passed significant like Massachusetts- public employee health care, Rhode Island- pensions and California- term limits/ fair maps?
They have spent the past 4 years on the sidelines because they allow Mike Madigan to control the agenda and he is not a change person.
Mark Glennon said that means there’s little chance Illinois’ major problems will get solved.
“It’ll be a question of how much further we need to get to look like Detroit or Puerto Rico before people start demanding real reforms,” Glennon said. “And, by the way, this isn’t simply a … Democratic issue. There’s plenty of Republicans that bear blame here too.”
Illinois has among the highest taxes in the country, the largest unfunded pension liability and a credit rating that’s hovering a notch above junk status.
Did JB’s election suddenly wash these problems away?
It’s not him, I’m worried about; it’s the BTIAtm. Are they going to check out for the next two months or will they at least try to go out with some grace by working with the G.A. on things they can agree on.
“LP”, I’ll take the Minnesota experience as opposed to the Kansas experiment.
Say what you want, but Rauner wanted the Kansas no tax nirvana and it does not work. Anywhere. Ever.
Fiscal stability comes from a stable government that pays its’ bills and its’ debtors. I get it, you prefer a whelching Your word has no vlaue- the Rauner philosophy.
My business is moving to TN as my farm already has. My employees have had their notice as I have told them if JB won, the business would move. 68 positions no longer in Illinois as of February 1,2019
My family came to Illinois in 1807. We are leaving in 2019.
Presumably there are downstate precincts that have yet to report. But as it stands now all Dems are winning statewide races by very impressive margins.
They say that if people have an extremely important goal, they will hang on well beyond their time until that goal is completed. Maybe Mike can finally leave now that his work is done. Look for the Light, Mike, go into the Light.
Rauner has been rejected and apparently dragged down state wide Republicans with him. Does Pritzker have the answers? We don’t know yet until Pritzker has been in a few months. But it is clear that Rauner did not have the answers and was rejected by the voters of Illinois. Certainly with that big of a margin, Pritzker has a mandate. And I am sure the bloggers of Capital Fax will help him use his mandate wisely.
Rich, serious question. Heard one of the talking heads on TV say the Florida Governor’s race was the most expensive Gov race ever. Did FL actually spend more than JB and Bruce did here in Illinois?
“My business is moving to TN as my farm already has. My employees have had their notice as I have told them if JB won, the business would move. 68 positions no longer in Illinois as of February 1,2019″
Hultgren and Roskam go down. My fears are being realized…
===- Oswego Willy - Monday, Nov 5, 18 @ 10:37 am
Here’s some perspective, as 2020 will bring a new Congressional map too.
Let’s say Hultgren goes down, and if Hultgren is lost, then Roskam is probably lost too…
In Cook, the Collars, all the way to Peoria… Adam Kinzinger will be the lone Republican in the US House.
Wow.
Hultgren’s possible loss puts into perspective of a geographical divide in Illinois where politics is also defined by geography.
Madigan goes veto-proof? Cullerton stays veto-proof, the Dems sweep the statewides, Kinzinger is the lone Northeast Illinois Republican in the US House, the Senate has two Democrats…
… Hultgren is the last wall of a GOP presence in the Cook/Collar traditional region.
And I need not worry… Uihlein, Proft, and Ives will make a rebirth of an ILGOP competitive?
Hultgren will be a lynch pin. Hultgren holding on might be the only shining moment for the state Raunerites.===
For all your “county voters” out there, you’re going to love that huge GOP district in southern and central Illinois in the next map. It will have most of them.

WOW
The News-Gazette reports Harold says something about politics being a team sport and the word “blame” somehow comes up. Hey Erika, not a good look, you ran a strong race and cane up short, own it.
Well, IL did it’s part. Unfortunately, Trump’s hate message still holds sway in red states and the Senate will continue to spew out extremist judicial appointments.
I’m especially happy that Davis was defeated. His parroting the GOP lies about healthcare was sickening. He can now take a look at his smiling picture celebrating the House vote to kill the ACA and think about the consequence he earned.
Illinois 54 - Tom Morrison barely squeaking by with 400 votes. 3 precincts left to to count.
He’s gone from 10-20% wins to a barely 1% lead in a district designed for ruby red Republican wins.
If a Gov. JB can get a Minnesota style progressive tax passed and in turn lower middle class taxes… Morrison will have his hands full with Trump on the ballot in 2020.
Rauner crowed that MJM had a veto-proof majority in the 99th. That wasn’t true, by anyone with honest eyes, they’d agree, with Dunkin, Franks and Drury in that 71.
“And you know what?”
All three are gone.
Madigan won’t have 71/72/73 mushrooms to vote as he wishes… but he doesn’t have Drury, Franks, or Dunkin either.
A whole new veto-proof. A whole new ball game in intraparty deals now.
Yeah, “that’s what”

TV Analyst: Rauner was a real drag tonight.
Viewers: It wasn’t just tonight.
- DarkHorse - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 10:29 pm:
The News-Gazette reports Harold says something about politics being a team sport and the word “blame” somehow comes up. Hey Erika, not a good look, you ran a strong race and cane up short, own it.
- Norseman - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 10:34 pm:
Well, IL did it’s part. Unfortunately, Trump’s hate message still holds sway in red states and the Senate will continue to spew out extremist judicial appointments.
I’m especially happy that Davis was defeated. His parroting the GOP lies about healthcare was sickening. He can now take a look at his smiling picture celebrating the House vote to kill the ACA and think about the consequence he earned.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 10:34 pm:
Rauner…
He loses… the ticket as a whole goes down…
Mike Madigan goes veto-proof.
Hey… HEY….
Hey ILGOP… ‘bout done?
You ready to rebuild or cower?
I mean… look at this night….
Are we seriously going to exist… or just tell me to give up.
Either way, I’m gonna know, in about 38 seconds the “real honest” answer… but let me and everyone else know.
K?
Show me “sumptin”

Watching Lauren Underwood. This woman is a star. Big time.
- Norseman - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 10:44 pm:
Oops, lying Davis evidently pulled it out. Bad CNN prediction.
- RNUG - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 10:50 pm:
Looks like Rodney lives to fight again. Ahead by a bit under 5,000 with a bit over 7,000 to still count.
- Demoralized - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 10:51 pm:
JB won McLean County. Rauner tied with Jackson in that county. When McLean County goes Democratic you have a problem.
- RNUG - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 10:53 pm:
CNN apparently went with their exit polls and gut based on the early lead that evaporated. I expected this one to be a nail biter.
- wordslinger - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 11:11 pm:
As it stands, Pritzker will get about 600K more votes than Quinn did in 2014.
That’s a monster number.
Rauner is down about 180K from his 2014 number.
- Anono - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 11:16 pm:
Illinois 54 - Tom Morrison barely squeaking by with 400 votes. 3 precincts left to to count.
He’s gone from 10-20% wins to a barely 1% lead in a district designed for ruby red Republican wins.
If a Gov. JB can get a Minnesota style progressive tax passed and in turn lower middle class taxes… Morrison will have his hands full with Trump on the ballot in 2020.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 11:22 pm:
Here’s what’s real… like “real-real”
Rauner crowed that MJM had a veto-proof majority in the 99th. That wasn’t true, by anyone with honest eyes, they’d agree, with Dunkin, Franks and Drury in that 71.
“And you know what?”
All three are gone.
Madigan won’t have 71/72/73 mushrooms to vote as he wishes… but he doesn’t have Drury, Franks, or Dunkin either.
A whole new veto-proof. A whole new ball game in intraparty deals now.
Yeah, “that’s what”
- Not a Billionaire - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 11:25 pm:
I haven’t seen the maps yet but it looks like I 74 is the line between blue and red Illinois.
- Chambananon - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 11:39 pm:
Connelly up by only 12 votes with 100% in. Wow.
- JB13 - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 11:46 pm:
My taxes better not go up. Ol’ JB promised.
- ChanceMcCall - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 8:26 am:
- JS Mill - Tuesday, Nov 6, 18 @ 9:34 pm:
@ chance McCall- LOL. What did that move cost you? I bet moving a “farm” that employs 68 (almost a great number) people is expensive.
Funny, because Illinois Ag is supported by some real tax breaks.
I am sure you are for real though. You seem like a “Lucky” guy
