* From Rep. Jeanne Ives’ Facebook page…
Congratulations Chicago!
Now the bailout of your junk rated government will accelerate in earnest as your favored sons and daughters use the rest of the state as an ATM to pay for your bloated, inefficient and corrupt institutions.
That’s really what last night was about.
In case the rest of you willfully uninformed voters across the state were confused about what is next.
- NoGifts - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:50 pm:
Wow, she really doesn’t understand the state finances does she?
- Leigh John-Ella - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:51 pm:
Hey Jeanne, “junk rated: should be hyphenated.
How’s it feel to be less than perfect?
- JS Mill - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:53 pm:
Not a big fan of the Representative form of Democracy we practice I guess.
Last seen: Jeanne Ives (who received a free taxpayer supported education) was seen on her front lawn yelling at the clouds.
- Real - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:53 pm:
Ive’s is mad because Breen lost. My issue is that if Rauner and Ive’s love there type of platform why not go to Indiana, Wisconsin or somewhere else? Clearly we are not interested in there type of government.
- VanillaMan - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:55 pm:
Spoken in anger.
It’s even more difficult to be bipartisan or GOP in a state that still votes for the Democrats after the past horrible 20 years.
Rauner was the GOPs last hope.
He made the party of high taxes, big government, special interests, Blagojevich and Chicago look good. He destroyed the GOP from inside out.
Worst governor ever.
- JS Mill - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:56 pm:
She posted that screed 7 hours ago and only 63 shares. I guess she has already found her next role, obscurity.
- Perrid - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:57 pm:
*Bangs head on desk*
Chicago pays for the rest of the state. The State pension problem is not going away even if we did do the impossible and made Chicago its own city state.
Why, why, WHY are we always pitting the rest of the state against Chicago?
- Almost the weekend - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:57 pm:
Well we know Ives will use the Chicago VS everybody else message in her 2022 campaign. Who said the Rauner legacy is dead?
- TheInvisibleMan - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:58 pm:
Yikes. That Facebook page.
I honestly find it hard to believe adults talk like that non-ironically.
That’s a person who shouldn’t be in charge of a lunch schedule, much less any position in government.
- POTUSWithTheBadHair - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:58 pm:
JS Mill-
In Rep. Ives’ book democracy is great if you only account for the voters who believe exactly what she does. Those that don’t are know-nothings/woefully uninformed.
- Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:58 pm:
Ives, Rauner, the IPI, Trib editorial board, Kass, etc., they’ve suffered immensely in Illinois, being in their lower socioeconomic caste. The beauty is that they can join the U-Haul parade and leave Illinois.
- Wensicia - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:59 pm:
Does anyone believe she’s the person who can lead the Illinois Republican Party in the future? They really need to distance themselves from her rhetoric.
- TominChicago - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 2:59 pm:
Bye Felicia
- People Over Parties - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:00 pm:
===Clearly we are not interested in there type of government.===
I want nothing to do with Ives, but Illinois is nothing to brag about at the moment. Get real.
- lakeside - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:00 pm:
Born leader. The Trib was right, let’s get the best of both sides together.
…this is snark.
- Jen - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:05 pm:
Just because Jeannie Ives was right about Bruce Rauner doesn’t mean she is right about anything else. Ives and her ilk have been just as damaging to the Republican Party as the Governor. It’s a circular firing squad at this point.
- Wow - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:06 pm:
Maybe she will go to Italy with Bruce
- JS Mill - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:06 pm:
If she runs in 2022 what is her election plan given she is not going to gain any votes in Chicago and very few in the Metro area where 85% of the population resides?
700,000 votes will leave he a bit short.
- Tommydanger - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:07 pm:
Its not always sunny where I’m standing, but why is there a perpetual rain cloud over Jeanne Ives’ head?
- Jibba - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:09 pm:
Man, I wish someone had told me all of this one day earlier. /s
- wordslinger - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:09 pm:
Strange thing to say, since she was openly hoping for Rauner to lose.
- low level - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:11 pm:
No, Jeanne. We pay for ourselves and the rest of the state.
Reality is to Ives as Helene Miller Walsh is to landslides
- Lester Holt’s Mustache - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:14 pm:
She forgot to add the part where she accuses them all of being “moral libertines”. Amateur
- Century Club - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:16 pm:
It was nice that she said congratulations.
But seriously, how do you hamstring someone for six months, then complain when they lose?
- Cubs in '16 - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:19 pm:
So…Ives is saying we should’ve voted to re-elect the person who led the state into junk status in the first place. How exactly would that have helped our situation?
- PP - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:20 pm:
Nice middle finger Ives

She apparently didn’t this this one through. Did she understand what would happen if Rauner (boo boo he said mean things about me during the campaign so I am still going to publicly hate him) didn’t win. Uh, Jeanne, somebody has to win.
- 618er - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 3:37 pm:

Ives for Illinois 2022…

She can thank Rauner and Trump for what happened last night.
And after her little love note to Chicago right there is it any wonder that the GOP lost ground there last night?
Hey,Jeanne, you might want to stop while you’re behind.
- a drop in - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 4:01 pm:
“Ives for Illinois 2022…”
She would get a lower percentage of the vote than Rauner did.

It’s not fair to blame an entire party for Ives’ histrionics. As Rich pointed out earlier about Skillicorn; they are the minority in the minority.

Pretty insulting really. You don’t have to be from Chicago to not subscribe to far right propaganda.
- Christopher - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 4:16 pm:
She claims to be about what’s right for Illinois, but it isn’t hurling insults at Chicago.
- Anono - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 4:18 pm:

Bite me relic.
- Pundent - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 4:21 pm:
I think Ives is recognizing a much larger reality that doesn’t bode well for Republicans in this state right now. Previously they only had to write off the City of Chicago and parts of Cook County as areas they couldn’t compete. But increasingly they’re running into problems in Lake, DuPage, Kane and other collar counties. In that sense “Chicago” has taken on a much larger more depressing reality for Republicans.

Not the way I would have announced the start of my campaign for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2022, but I didn’t go to West Point, don’t live in Wheaton, and haven’t spent the last several years drawing a taxpayer-funded legislative salary.
Perhaps she was hacked? Or had consumed copious amounts of alcoholic beverages before she posted this? I personally would go with the hacker argument, and see if I could get Trump to claim the Democrats did it.

- John Deere Green - Wednesday, Nov 7, 18 @ 4:38 pm:
==But seriously, how do you hamstring someone for six months, then complain when they lose?==
Who’s complaining? She got the result she wanted. This is simply Ives pivoting from reluctant Rauner voter to Ives for Governor 2022. No time to lose, and she probably believes the GOP nomination is owed to her. Always on the attack, always screaming at the wind. Has all the answers, but never the solutions.

Rauner really hurt the State University system and that pushed a ton of kids to leave. That damage will take a long time to recover from.

You’re just ahead of your time, Jeannie. Maybe. Remember, once upon a time, the voters of Illinois were outraged enough to vote Rauner into office. However, he also had the support (or rather, complacent attitude toward him) of Labor. Obviously, that complacency was not present yesterday. But looking at it the other way, a large chunk of voters still voted for Rauner yesterday DESPITE the past four years, so there is still a lot of outrage left in Illinois. If the state continues to spiral downhill, 2022 or 2026 will likely find enough outrage to elect someone like Jeannie. But what could she do to fix it by that point? Not much. The only thing that will save Illinois in the long run will be to reverse the trend of people and business leaving (and/or not coming) to the state. Whatcha gonna do ’bout that, JB?

===Rauner hurt UIUC so badly…===
… Chancellor Jones said this about Rauner hurting Illinois;
===“Given the financial challenges facing higher education over the past 25 months, our focus has been on protecting our students’ Illinois experience and ensuring their success,” Urbana-Champaign Chancellor Robert Jones said in a statement. “We are proud that despite the state budget crisis, our graduation rate, freshman retention rate, admitted student quality and reputation among peers and high school counselors all held steady or improved. Our class sizes crept up, but only slightly.”===
Rauner hurt UIUC. Purposely.

= Remember, once upon a time, the voters of Illinois were outraged enough to vote Rauner into office.=
And Rauner went to great lengths to distort who he really was. Can’t say that about Ives.
Ives isn’t ahead of her time, she’s well past it. The state has seen her act before. It was called Alan Keyes and it ended badly.

Ms Ives lives in Wheaton, She probably has a VA loan, probably will get a check from the us military and state government, got that good free healthcare and her city would be a one horse town if it wasn’t a Chicago suburb. Im so happy she’s leaving the General assembly some her “u people ” when she talks about black people angered me to my core. I hope she moves to Italy, or Indiana. We don’t need her in our state. Lastly im sick and tired of how some pit chicago against the rest of the state we are ALL illinoisans, sorry for the rant.

Did she really not read the “money-sent-to-SF, money-from-SF” report from last year? Ives will be a footnote in IL history, and only when connected to a failed Gov. Rauner.
