Preckwinkle says she’s going back up on TV

Wednesday, Mar 27, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Six days out and she goes back up. Also, I have no info yet about the size of this buy. Press release…

Today, the campaign for Toni Preckwinkle released it’s next ad, “Troubling,” which will air on broadcast, cable and digital.

The ad exposes mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot’s role, then serving as Chief of Staff in the Office of Emergency Management and Communications, in the botched response to a tragic West Side fire that resulted in the death of four children, and the ensuing cover up.

A judge ordered sanctions against Lightfoot for her “shockingly lax” and “cavalier” handling of the case, in which evidence was either withheld or destroyed.

The judge in the case called Lightfoot’s actions troubling, and questioned Lightfoot’s honesty with the court, to the point that he advised her that she might want to retain legal counsel.

A tragic fire made worse when the 9-1-1 call center run by Lori Lightfoot, allegedly botched the response, costing lives.

To cover it up, Lightfoot allegedly lied, and became extremely evasive. That’s not “bringing in the light.”

“Lori Lightfoot says she wants to bring in the light, but her actions tell a different story,” said Jessey Neves, campaign manager. “This tragic story sheds light on the fact that when Lori Lightfoot had the opportunity to show accountability and transparency, she led a troubling cover up.”

No wonder they were shopping that story so hard.

A tragic fire made worse when the 9-1-1 call center run by Lori Lightfoot, allegedly botched the response, costing lives.

To cover it up, Lightfoot allegedly lied, became extremely evasive.

And evidence was destroyed or deliberately withheld.

A judge called her actions shocking….and very, very troubling.

With lives on the line, Lori Lightfoot didn’t bring in the light, she covered up the truth.

…Adding… The cable buy is just $5,020.

Solid, to the point, uses Lightfoot’s own slogan against her

  2. - Old Time R - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 3:25 pm:

Good ad but might be to late based on all the polling

  3. - Three Dimensional Checkers - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 3:26 pm:

Is this ad titled “Allegedly?” Someone allegedly should be shot into space for such allegedly bad writing.

    Also, I told you so.

When there were 14 candidates in the Mayoral race, I said to myself that Preckwinkle would be among the ones I’d be okay with. But after February 26 when she went negative on Lori Lightfoot, and I watched them in all of the televised debates, I lost all my respect and desire for Preckwinkle. Her answers to forum questions are robotic and self-serving.

Counterpoint: Going negative just reinforces the negative voter perception of Toni. Could suppress turnout but I don’t think people would trust her message at this point.

  6. - I Miss Bentohs - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 3:30 pm:

I do not live in Chicago and do not know either of these candidates but based on this ad, I would for sure vote for Lori Lightfoot.

  7. - Last Bull Moose - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 3:40 pm:

    Too little. Too late.

I think Lori will win. Then we find out how well she can work with the Council.

  8. - Oscar's Nom de Plume - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 3:53 pm:

    Weak.

They have gone to great lengths to show bad footage of Lori and the middle of the ad just looks like Lori is trying to determine whether she left the garage door open or not.

Also, she didn’t run the 911 Center then or ever.

I don’t think this is moving the needle with 6 days left but Chicago has surprised me before.

  9. - PP - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 3:55 pm:

Too little too late from Machine TOni

  10. - OneMan - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 3:59 pm:

You think Toni’s folks would have gotten the ads words for google searches on Lightfoot 911, so that way if you search to try and get some more scoop you don’t find the Sun Times article which paints Lightfoot in a better light (no pun intended).

  11. - lake county democrat - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 4:03 pm:

I wonder if the employee who actually botched the call was a relative of an elected official.

  12. - Southsider - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 4:07 pm:

Not a game changer…but I’d ask “Sho me da money.”

  13. - Amalia - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 4:26 pm:

creepy. might work on fence sitters or keep some away from voting at all. still think Lori will win despite her troubling record as a City employee.

  14. - Montrose - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 4:39 pm:

I agree with others that say it is too little, too late.

  15. - DuPage Saint - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 4:46 pm:

She will close with Smollett endorsement and that will put her over

  16. - Just Me 2 - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 4:48 pm:

I admit I’m a Lightfoot voter so I am biased, but the ad comes across as very over-the-top.

  17. - Sue - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 5:30 pm:

In addition to Berrios- one great reason to send Preckwinkle packing is that she stuck the public with the wholly unqualified States Attorney named Kim Foxx who is quickly becoming a national embarrassment

  18. - Hammer - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 6:03 pm:

At only 5k the earned media output is cheaper than the paid.

  19. - Soccermom - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 6:24 pm:

I’m not a fan of repeating your opponent’s slogan. What do you guys think?

  20. - Lincoln Lad - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 6:31 pm:

A great ad that nobody sees doesn’t matter at all. This isn’t a great ad, and is not the game changer Toni likely needs. I hate the negative Toni, I’m ready for the next.

  21. - Fav Human - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 6:47 pm:

Really late in the game for this. Even if it’s on 24/7….

  22. - lakeside - Wednesday, Mar 27, 19 @ 7:25 pm:

    ==cable buy is just $5,020.==

Oh my gosh. That can’t be worth what it cost to make it.
