Eastern Bloc member posts anti-vaxxer propaganda

Monday, Apr 29, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From Rep. Darren Bailey’s (R-Xenia) Facebook page..

Please make sure you are properly educated about vaccinations.

Posted by Darren Bailey for State Representative 109th District on Saturday, April 27, 2019

OK, first of all, the big highlighted case at his posted link of a death due to vaccination was a 19-month-old who had streptococcus pneumonia and four serious heart problems: Cardiac heterotaxy, dextrocardia, complete atrioventricular septal defect and pulmonary atresia.

Second, the article uses a chart from an ad clickbait website which supposedly shows the measles mortality rate dating back to 1900 and how it dropped years before the vaccine was introduced in 1963. But measles wasn’t even a reportable disease until 1919 and the numbers weren’t accurate when they were reported. From the CDC

Before measles vaccine was licensed in 1963, an average of 400,000 measles cases were reported each year in the United States. However, because virtually all children acquired measles, the number of cases probably approached 3.5 million per year (i.e., an entire birth cohort).

* Rep. Bailey also posted this comment in his thread…

Earlier this year, with the help of others, I introduced HB 342. It did not make it out of committee because of the misinformation and the money funneled from pharmaceutical companies to many politicians. The bill simply requires whoever is administering a vaccine to inform the patient if the vaccine contained aborted baby tissue.

Yeah, right. Big Pharma killed his bill. Okeedokee. More like common sense killed that turkey.

There is no “aborted baby tissue” in any vaccine. From the National Catholic Bioethics Center

Cell lines such as WI-38, MRC-5, HEK-293, PER C6, WI-26 VA4, and Walvax-2 are derived from tissue from aborted fetuses. Any product grown in these or other cell lines derived from abortions, therefore, has a distant association with abortion. The cells in these lines have gone through multiple divisions before they are used in vaccine manufacture. After manufacture, the vaccines are removed from the cell lines and purified. One cannot accurately say that the vaccines contain any of the cells from the original abortion.

And the Vatican says preventing the spread of deadly disease, particularly to children and pregnant women, must take precedence, so get your kids vaccinated.

Also, the US Supreme Court upheld a state’s right to enforce compulsory vaccination laws way back in 1905.

Rep. Bailey’s bill has two co-sponsors: Fellow Eastern Bloc member Chris Miller and Metro East Democrat Monica Bristow.

I cannot believe I had to waste two hours of my day doing research to debunk this nonsense.

    Thank you!

  2. - LoyalVirus - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:33 pm:

Reckless, dangerous & unconscionable. Measles in the U.S. were declared eliminated in 2000, yet this year already there have been almost 700 cases nationwide. This is on you, anti-vaxxers.

  3. - walker - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:35 pm:

Ironic that much of the anti-vaccine propaganda and misinformation started with Russian sources, who pumped it via Facebook into Ukraine and the rest of the former Eastern bloc, before focusing on the USA.

  4. - wordslinger - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:36 pm:

–I cannot believe I had to waste two hours of my day doing research to debunk this nonsense.–

That’s key to the the grift. Send so many rabbits down so many holes that you tire of chasing them.

Bailey sure is wearing out that Ninth Commandment on this one.

  5. - New Slang - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:37 pm:

Debating an anti-vaxxer is basically banging your head against a brick wall, or better, wrestling a pig. Especially the ones who are head strong about the aborted baby tissue angle.

  6. - Abe Powering State by Spinning in his grave - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:39 pm:

The descent of the GOP into the party of conspiracy theorists, hucksters and scam artists has been a sight to behold. The modern Republican party has no platform other than “owning the libs,” and red meat for its base. Not interested in governing, not interested in solving problems, just dedicated to ideology at the expense of everything else.

–The descent of the GOP into the party of conspiracy theorists, hucksters and scam artists has been a sight to behold. –

On this one, there’s enough snake-oil and stupid to go around. Plenty of New Agey, affluent coastal types among anti-vaxxers.

  8. - {Sigh} - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:44 pm:

{Sigh} The Eastern Bloc needs to focus their efforts on economic development instead of this nonsense.

  9. - OneMan - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:45 pm:

I am assuming the member isn’t getting the adult shingles vacine when the time comes.

Did anyone ask him he belives this malarky?

  10. - Retiree who’s staying - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:49 pm:

If this is common thought practice in the “Eastern Bloc”, then maybe breaking away would be the best for all involved.

  11. - Annonin' - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:49 pm:

We can’t believe you (Capt Fax) would dare to dispute the hard evidence produced by the whack jobs after zillions of hours of (fill in the blank)could be shot down by your puny 2 hours. Heck in the EasternBloc we can’t even figure out which of the 12 washers in our front yard still works in 2 hours.

  12. - Mr. Morris - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:52 pm:

==Bailey sure is wearing out that Ninth Commandment on this one. ==

Confused on to how this the Ninth Commandment, “Thou shall not covet thy neighbors wife”? “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” is Commandment 8. However, Catholics might have a different numbering system for the 10 Commandments.

  13. - Not a Billionaire - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:54 pm:

The Eastern blocs are working together suprise.
Economic development? These guys are going to get all their projects cancelled when they refuse to vote for the Capital Bill. US 50 is all ready off the featured projects list at IDOT. I mention because Xenia is on 50.

  14. - sewer thoughts - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 12:57 pm:

just more Xenia-phobia from Rep. Bailey and ilk

  15. - JoanP - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:03 pm:

=And the Vatican says preventing the spread of deadly disease, particularly to children and pregnant women, must take precedence, so get your kids vaccinated.=

And yet the Vatican still opposes the use of condoms to prevent the spread of HIV.

  16. - JoanP - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:04 pm:

    @Mr. Morris -

In the Talmud, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor”is the 9th commandment.

  17. - Glengarry - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:04 pm:

Even Trump has said vaccinate your kids.

  18. - Measles measles measles - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:06 pm:

Some anti-vaxxers have been pointing to the “measles” episode of “The Brady Bunch” in their propaganda as an authoritative documentation that the illness isn’t especially egregious and is ” not a huge issue and just something you stay home and deal with”. Surviving cast members from the show are livid that their image and the show are being used this way, and are speaking out.

  19. - Downstate - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:06 pm:

Political lines on this are blurred. RFK Jr. says “no” to vaccination.

  20. - wordslinger - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:08 pm:

–Confused on to how this the Ninth Commandment,–

I have false witness at Nine. You were truly and honestly confused at which one I meant?

  21. - Anyone Remember - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:08 pm:

    Mr. Morris -
Catholics omit the Charlton Heston / Jewish / Greek / Protestant 2nd, move the 9th to 8th, and split that 10th into 2 Commandments. Ian Paisley made a career out of those differences in Belfast.

  22. - Wensicia - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:08 pm:

Can a person be declared a public health nuisance?

  23. - FormerParatrooper - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:10 pm:

I had done some research when my brother brought up this same nonsense. I looked into the history of the anti vax movement and was surprised how old it really is.

If Mr. Rich will allow this link, it may surprise many who has supported the ant vax hysteria.

The perfidy of these type of pols will continue until they realize adverse ramifications. Media in Bailey’s district need to call him out. If they don’t, then the public health departments and advocates need to call out the media.

Abe you are so right. I was telling someone over the weekend this is my 25th session and the party of Jim Edgar, Kirk Dillard, Rosemary Mulligan, Eileen Lyons, Pat Linder and others is gone and probably not coming back.

As a Dem I often disagreed with them but at no time did I question their ability to grasp complex issues and try and work toward solutions.

It seems the current GOP is nothing more than a group that has no use for compromise, education and facts. They will continue to lose numbers and continue to complain their districts have no jobs or prospects for their children. And they own that,

  27. - Altgelds Ghost - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:25 pm:

This is what happened when uneducated anti-intellectual science deniers took over the Republican Party.

  33. - RIJ - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:48 pm:

The Eastern Bloc is apparently where the brain drain hole is located.

  34. - jdcolombo - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 1:56 pm:

As someone else pointed out - it’s not just the GOP. Some of the highest rates of non-vaccination are in upper-income liberal enclaves of California, Oregon and Washington. Many send their un-vaccinated kids to expensive private schools.

But it is certainly the case that the current GOP bears ultimate responsibility for their general anti-science stance. The GOP as a party certainly isn’t helping the situation.

Solutions: (1) do away with anything other than medical exceptions to vaccinations; (2) prohibit unvaccinated children (without a medical exception) from participating in any government-sponsored extra-curricular activity (e.g., sports, band, etc.) and (3) allow insurance companies to deny coverage for, and hold the parent(s) financially responsible for, the expenses of medical treatment for any minor to the extent those expenses are the proximate result of the failure of the parent to have the child vaccinated (unless there is a medical exception). I think that (3) possibly would be the most effective solution - make anti-vaxxers pay for their choice, so that others are not forced to subsidize their decisions with our own higher insurance rates.

More dangerous game playing by members of The Political Actors Guild…proving they are simply bad actors…by any definition.

Either you support President Trump (pro-vaxxer) or RFK Jr. (Anti-vaxxer) on this issue. I realize that may be a tough pill to swallow (pun intended) for many.

Thank you, Rich, for the links from the Catholic Bioethics Center and the Vatican. As a Catholic, I get enraged when Catholic anti-vaxxers use the “aborted fetal tissue” line. It’s utter horse hockey.

    ===================================

From what I see in my area the GOP is now the following:
    Trump lovers.
    Confederate sympathizers.
    Conspiracy believers.
People against anything a Democrat says or does.
People who think insults, obscenity, and “whataboutism” are intelligent debate tactics.

===It’s surprising to some given it’s perceived and real resistance to modernity, but the Catholic Church is refreshingly pro-science.===

It really is. Something like a dozen or so craters on the moon are named for Jesuit scientists, in recognition of their contributions to mathematics and science.

===Vaccinations are mandatory at my kids’ Catholic school.===

    My kids’ Catholic school too.

  48. - sewer thoughts - Monday, Apr 29, 19 @ 2:56 pm:

  53. - ahimsa42 - Tuesday, Apr 30, 19 @ 7:49 am:

perhaps the people who are so concerned about human health should look at how many people die every year as a direct result of consuming flesh, dairy & eggs-not to mention the unthinkable suffering and death to billions of sentient beings along with being the leading source of environmental destruction.

btw, how come no one ever thinks about where the diseases which vaccines were made to protect against came from in the first place? chicken pox, swine & bird flu should tell one all they need to know.

When you get the “how come no one ever thinks…” opening, more often than not it’s going to be a doozy.

I guess we know where bird-brain syndrome comes from.

  56. - Abby normal - Wednesday, May 1, 19 @ 2:29 pm:

    From Darren Bailey’s Facebook page:
“The modern day vaccination movement is more about $$ than health. Are you aware that many vaccines contain aborted baby tissue, dog and cat dna, male and female hormones, And we wander why people are so mixed up today.”

Whew. As long as there’s no Bailey brain tissue, I’m gonna be ok.
