Question of the day

Thursday, Aug 22, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I have some errands to run, so you’re on your own this afternoon. Instead of a question, let’s do an open thread. Keep it Illinois-centric and please be nice to each other. Thanks.

I’m curious to know how Kevin Quinn’s GoFundMe page is faring? Any $1000 donations listed from “a friend”?

  2. - CubsFan16 - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 2:04 pm:

Looks like another candidate announced in IL-14.

  3. - Skeptic - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 2:04 pm:

Cubs Magic Number = 37. Sorry, too soon?

  4. - The Captain - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 2:22 pm:

Two questions of the day today. What a special day.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 2:27 pm:

Best Illinois college football team this year?

Will the Illini be “bowl eligible”?

    NIU win the MAC?

Illinois State, make the playoffs? SIU? WIU?

  6. - Blue Dog Dem - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:09 pm:

Gonna be away a bit for some hopefully good surgery. Be nice and somebody pick up the trolling slack for me.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:10 pm:

    - Blue Dog Dem -

    Be well.

  8. - Blue Dog Dem - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:15 pm:

    Thanks

===Looks like another candidate announced in IL-14.===

Yup, we’re up to 7 IL-14 Republican candidates now.

  10. - JSS - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:19 pm:

Looks like the ARDC is moving to disbar Blagojevich.

    https://www.iardc.org/19PR0061CM.html.

Seems a bit delayed, but interesting timing.

  11. - Nagidam - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:30 pm:

I just changed out my router. My internet is sick fast now. Of course the old router was 5 years old. #WhoKnew

  12. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:35 pm:

JSS - I saw it explained that in cases like Blago’s based on criminal convictions they wait until after all the appeals are exhausted. He was suspended on an interim basis in 2011 but there was no real urgency to bring the formal case (since he’s in prison) I suppose until now, when there is a chance he might get out soon.

  13. - Lt. Guv - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:38 pm:

OW - best college football team for 2019 is between NIU and Northwestern. I think the Illness improve some and ISU has a very good FCS season.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:41 pm:

===I think the Illness improve some===

Can they beat NU at home? Bowl eligible?

Think you’re probably right on all counts.

  15. - Last Bull Moose - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 3:54 pm:

Just got my FOID renewal. I sent in new picture, cut 45 pounds off weight, and changed hair color to grey. FOID card has the picture and info from ten years ago. Just glad to have it.

  16. - Renzo - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:01 pm:

===Looks like another candidate announced in IL-14.===
The irony of a candidate trying to play up her immigrant roots, while also being a proponent for an admin. and policies that wouldn’t have let her family in in the first place, is not lost on me, smdh.

  17. - walker - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:15 pm:

    Best wishes Blue Dog.

  18. - RNUG - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:15 pm:

== FOID card has the picture and info from ten years ago ==

Regardless of what you send to the ISP, they use your DL picture.

  19. - RNUG - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:17 pm:

    -blue dog-

take care and follow any recovery instructions …

  20. - RNUG - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:18 pm:

== Cubs Magic Number = 37. Sorry, too soon? ==

Probably. I’m a Cubs fan but they’re not even guaranteed a wild card spot.

  21. - RNUG - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:19 pm:

Kind of nice that we are finally having some Spring days … even if it is late August

  22. - JoanP - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:21 pm:

    @Blue dog -

Hope all goes well and that you are back with us soon.

  23. - Earnest - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 4:37 pm:

Best wishes for a speedy recovery Blue Dog. If this blog focused on national issues and I knew your positions on ACA and all that, I’d try to make some kind of witty and ironic comment.

  24. - Last Bull Moose - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 5:17 pm:

    Good luck Blue Dog.

  25. - Shall not be infringed - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 5:18 pm:

    >>>== FOID card has the picture and info from ten years ago ==

    >>>Regardless of what you send to the ISP, they use your DL picture.

They want to know that it’s you, that you can send a pic that looks enough like the DL picture.

  26. - 5ohhhhhh (ret) - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 5:35 pm:

Just noticed my boat trailer plates (TA) went from $18 to $118. I have several TA plates and guess its time to thin the herd so to speak. I dont mind the smaller increases but thats huge.

  27. - 5ohhhhhh (ret) - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 5:36 pm:

    As of Jan 1 2020

  28. - Amalia - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 5:36 pm:

Heal On, Blue Dog Dem (imagine the exclamation points…..)

  29. - @misterjayem - Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 9:42 pm:

This article about the boys in NRBQ may be of interest to some of you (and their music should be of interest to all of you)

  30. - Freeport Fred - Friday, Aug 23, 19 @ 6:51 am:

It looks like Governor Pritzker is taking the bull by the horns and is making some sweeping changes at Intersect Illinois this coming week.It makes sense he would install his own team to run the Rauner created group but to ensure seamless collaboration with DCEO. Any more news on this Rich?

  31. - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 23, 19 @ 7:19 am:

50hhhh—that is why it is disingenuous to claim 97% will pay less in taxes. Many have calculated they will save(maybe) $75 annually but fees, gas taxes, bag taxes, etc. are increasing significantly and will take more money out of the pockets of the middle and lower class.

  32. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 23, 19 @ 8:10 am:

===that is why it is disingenuous to claim 97% will pay less in taxes.===

The claim is income tax. No one has said other taxes aren’t going up.

    Keep up.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 23, 19 @ 8:27 am:

Also, 97% will not see “an increase”, not a cut.

  34. - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 23, 19 @ 8:50 am:

I get that man. It is the equivalent of giving an employee a miniscule wage increase and then letting him or her know it will cost to park in the lot, your insurance is increasing and you have to contribute more to the coffee fund.

  35. - revvedup - Friday, Aug 23, 19 @ 12:12 pm:

    1. Go Bears
    2. Glad to see Blago will be disbarred.
    3. Our taxes and fees are going up because too many people voted for politicians who refused to raise the rates that should have kept up with inflation and the State’s needs over the years (and wasting billions on failed projects and pork).
