Never tweet
Wednesday, Sep 25, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Emphasis added to this retweet by the East Dundee Republican…
I asked Rep. Skillicorn if he does, indeed, support a second Civil War. I’ll let you know what he says.
…Adding… Text exchange…
…Adding… From comments…
The irony of trying to claim “I didn’t see that” when at the same time complaining about having to pass something to read it.
…Adding… More from Skillicorn…
People are angry in IL. If the specials interests and politicians don’t get that average people are honked off because of fiscal mismanagement, blatant corruption, and moral decay they must live in an ivory tower. Specifically to the tweet, war is dumb. Violence is dumb, but so is the IL leadership that treats an entire state like its Chicago. I denounce the original tweeter’s civil war line but can still identify with anger and lack of trust in IL politics. I’ll also add that a retweet is a nothing-burger.
Um, the tweet wasn’t even about Illinois.
- jc19pd2 - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:06 am:
I can’t understand the psychology that people really want a second civil war. I know there are so many fractures and divisions. But 600,000 plus dead in a conflict lasting over four years is nothing to sneeze at.
- Thomas Paine - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:07 am:
TFW @capitolfax Never tweet pops up in your alerts and it isn’t you. @TomsPaine
Now the lingering question s whether The Separatist is retweeting Russian bots.
- Annonin' - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:09 am:
Make sure you have your crayons in case Skilly needs more background on your question.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:09 am:
I don’t understand this need for electeds to be on twitter, Facebook, “insta”… whatever.
Here are the rules as I’ve seen them;
If you are so heck-bent on tweeting and you are an elected official or Staff, here are the “rules”
If you can NOT follow these rules - Do Not Tweet Ever.
1) Never tweet in real time anything that can’t be easily tweeted by anyone else. Let them do it.
2) “Don’t Press ‘Tweet’… ” Coach Herm Edwards had it right. You don’t need to tweet everything, on anything, all the time.
3) Never take pictures of Documents. Ever. Do y’all realize all the information that can be found? Dates, “CCs”, Who coulda drafted it. Documents are never to be tweeted. Ever.
4) Pictures are for “after” - like a “Later-Tweet” or “LaterGram”. Not one person cares at that real time moment how cute the dog is, how big the sandwich is, or how important you think you are.
5) Get off Twitter.
If I have to add a “6”
6) Never retweet ever. Even if it’s your bestest buddy, why take the chance to owning another’s ridiculousness.
Still… why are you tweeting, ever?

The irony of trying to claim “I didn’t see that” when at the same time complaining about having to pass something to read it.
Aside from the horror of what is being suggested, We can now safely assume Skillicorn doesn’t read any of the bills he votes on, if he can’t be bothered to read a single sentence of something he is retweeting and putting his name on.
“When people show you who they are - believe them.”
- Da Big Bad Wolf - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:17 am:
Skillicorn is probably too busy looking for his annual Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day meme to answer.
You know, the gory one with the Aztecs sacrificing people.
- bitter cubs fan - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:27 am:
of course the original tweet is from a guy whose twitter name says he’s a cardinals fan
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:30 am:
As of this very moment, that retweet is still on his twitter.
This isn’t at all… magnificent.
- So_Ill - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:32 am:
Just wow. Your 2019 GOP.
- Nearly Normal - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:33 am:
Well, looks like Rep. Skillicorn got his name out there again. Must have a need for attention even the negative kind.
- Annonin' - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:39 am:
Mr/Ms OW
You forgot the point on don’t be a day drinker
- Bourbon Street - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:39 am:
Hey, Rep. Skillicorn, you know what else “average people are honked off about”? Politicians who give voice and apparent approval to those employing divisive language, and then try to walk back from the ensuing controversy by claiming they did not “see that”. Retweeting a call for a new civil war (as if the first one wasn’t horrible enough) is not a “nothing-burger”; it’s appalling.
- Anon62704 - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:42 am:
=war is dumb. Violence is dumb, but so is the IL leadership=
Equates war & violence with “IL leadership”.
Not a retweet. His own words. *sigh*
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:45 am:
- Annonin‘ -
Please, it’s just OW. Your formality is unnecessary.
===You forgot the point on don’t be a day drinker===
My rules are very narrow, as not to insert social choices on the tweeting act(s)
If you are never on twitter, anyone could day drink freely without worry.

“Rep. Skillicorn may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don’t let that fool you. He really is an idiot.”
- Norseman - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:52 am:
Those who precipitated Civil War I were morally bankrupt and willing to kill to allow them to subjugate human beings. Skillicorn is a morally bankrupt person who is willing to accept corrupt abuses of office to maintain power and diminish the rights of people. He seems like a natural for wanting Civil War II.

===average people are honked off because of fiscal mismanagement, blatant corruption, and moral decay===
I will say though, he does a heck of a good job describing the current situation at the federal level.
- thunderspirit - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:55 am:
Making oneself look worse the more one talks: very on-brand for Skillicorn.
- 33rd ward - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:56 am:
Agree with all the above.
Calling for civil war against our govt is just too much.
Disgraceful
- ajjacksson - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:56 am:
What do you want? The guy’s a Cardinals fan…
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:58 am:
The retweet is gone. No explanation. That’s fun, Mr. Skillicorn.
If you’re not checking out Mr. Wehrli’s and Mr. Skillicorn’s twitter, you’re missing out on the lunacy and comedy.
- facebizzle - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 11:58 am:
This is a perfect example of what’s wrong with Social Media today. People get all fired up and share things they would never say in public or defend if called out on them. But the spread of toxic rhetoric has numbed us all and made our politics more divisive. It’s beyond ridiculous for grown adults to act like this. All that being said, this doesn’t surprise me given who the “re-tweeter” was.
- Senator Clay Davis - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 12:06 pm:
Mandatory reminder that Pelosi’s statement back then was also a nothing-burger. Poor choice of words perhaps, but it’s been taken far, far out of context.
She was referring to the House/Senate Conference Committee, which is DESIGNED to negotiate the details of competing House and Senate bills behind closed doors, then bring them back to both chambers for a vote. It’s not like any member of Congress voted on Obamacare before seeing it. The conference committees *by design* happen without public scrutiny, media, or many rank-and-file legislators. That’s the whole point. They work out details, then bring the conference committee report back to the floor for a vote where it’s debated again (similar to concurrence in Illinois). It’s just standard procedure.
Or in other words, the committee had to pass it before the public/media/legislators could read it.

Oh good, I wasn’t the only one who say that and called him out on it.
BTW, Skilly also retweets references to Chicago people as “feral”

==…commits the crime of sedition.==
This law has repeatedly been found unconstitutional.
- Earnest - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 1:43 pm:
The sedition thing occurred to me as well, here as well as that very small subset of second amendment supporters who imply guns are needed so we can maintain our ability to fight against our government. Agree or disagree, many of us just shrug such statements off, but they do seem to inform the mindset of those with the potential to commit mass violence. It’s a weird time when disagreeing with someone voicing violent opposition to our government or disliking federal deficits makes you a liberal and not a conservative.
- Alex Ander - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 2:26 pm:
most of these people crying for a civil war that I’ve seen are overweight middle aged men who would keel over after a 100 meter sprint. They think because a bunch of them have semi auto rifles and a few thousand rounds of ammo they’re somehow going to take down the US govt. They think that several of our troops and generals would join them. The fact is, no one is going to risk their job and a treason charge to join a bunch of angry fat guys. Our military would crush any insurrection within minutes.
I wish men in black suits would visit these geniuses who clamor on social media for a civil war.
- JoanP - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 2:45 pm:
He didn’t see it?
Tweets are SHORT. It’s not as though it were buried in some 1,000 page document.
- Hard Hat - Wednesday, Sep 25, 19 @ 3:05 pm:
Obamacare, Pelosi and Civil War II all in one tweet. And somehow this exonerates POTUS? Or erases what we see right before our eyes? Incredible.
Glad to know the Representative from East Dundee is an independent critical thinker. /s

Morty: the ancient Celts also has human sacrifice. Does Skillicorn have another gory meme for St. Patrick’s Day? Just wondering. I don’t really follow him.
