Bot site botches ripped-off content, posts nice lady’s phone number online
Friday, Oct 4, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller
* But this post isn’t really about the Pritzker money. It’s about a bot publication called Moose Gazette which lifted Tina’s story in its entirety, but appeared to run it through a translation program…
“Solar-Periods” is apparently bot speak for “Sun-Times.” Also, check out this photo caption…
That bot needs to settle on its translations. Sunshine-Situations? * Another photo caption…
Um, that would be Rich Saal at the State Journal-Register. * And…
* I called the number on the Moose Gazette’s contact page and spoke to a very nice lady who said I was the third or fourth person to call about this. She insisted that she has no idea what the Moose Gazette is or why they’re using her phone number, which she said she’s had for 47 years and doesn’t want to change. I gave her the website address and wished her luck. The address listed on the page didn’t turn up anything, either. I suppose I could go to Boise and knock on some doors, but I kinda have better things to do with my time. From the “about” page…
There is no such thing as the Idaho News Media Association, but that link does bring up another site called Slap Coffee, which is currently unavailable. According to the Idaho Secretary of State’s website, MG LLC is a Foreign Limited Liability Company that cancelled its registration in 2004. I did find the name of a registered agent at the time the company cancelled its registration, looked up his number and left a voicemail. OK, I think I’ve wasted far too much time on this today. Any other suggestions? …Adding… With a hat tip to a commenter…

Russians would be the easy answer, but I have zero idea what is going on.

Doing a domain search doesn’t show much. Registered under a IP protection company.

Original writing and content, be it news media conversed to a two-bit web commercial for hand soap, there’s this ripping off of media/internet content and rehashing it as “their own”, and not just news, or memes, or blogging. Intellectual properties floating about on the web have this possibility to be hijavked and repurposed, and folks think what they’re reading is first person work.
As a big fan of Tina, and her “men watching…” twitter thing, it’s a real disservice to pros like Tina and everyone else doing yeomen work to be rehashed outside their honest work.
To the phone thingy?
Gotta make it look legit. How many are gonna call out these articles, let alone call the numbers?
For the bad actors, they gamble on laziness.

Getting the bot sites ready for next year’s elections.

It is a bot to create the illusion of a real news site that then can be used for future for spreading propaganda.
They have no interest in the content of the story.

I do have to say though, that this and the reaction to Ken Griffin yesterday really shows why this The Point Out is going to lose all of its Abundant people over the next few Solar Periods.

A few days ago, a newz-bot misidentified Chicago’s county as Prepare dinner County, Illinois.
ProPublica’s Jessica Huseman noticed the same thing in Google’s news feed.
I checked Google and a search returns nearly six-thousand results for “Prepare dinner County”.
Pray for journalism, folks.

Maybe Solar Periods Investigation is a late entry into the contest to name the recent law enforcement activity from a few days ago.

That same twitter guy szaheer123 also is apparently affiliated with this other bot news site:

Doesn’t someone have a contact with the FBI after all the media coverage on the warrants? Tina and the nice lady whose number is being used should file a complaint with the FBI and the each respective Attorney General’s office.

Looks like the domain was just registered August 7, 2018 through namesilo.com. This is one site of probably a network of websites that could be used for any number of things. Its a simple wordpress template that could be built in minutes and they are using a keyword spinner to slightly change scraped content in order to fool googles crawler into thinking its original and authentic content.
One reason they may be doing this is Ad fraud (they are using google ads right now) but eventually could also be used to manipulate google search rankings for among other things, propaganda or boner pills by building a link pyramid.
I suggest filing a report w/ google’s adsense dept that the website violates the Webmaster Guidelines with “automatically generated content.”

Hey Rich — Boise and surrounding area are pretty nice this time of year, I’ve got nothing really pressing going on and lived in Idaho for a while, so if you want to send someone out there, I’d be willing. Always ready to help.

Disturbing, but kind of funny. Reminds me of autocorrect that changes my texts from “please put in dinner,” to “please Putin dinner.” Like I am texting from a gulag.

Lol. This could be a drinking game.
But seriously, what is the purpose of substituting synonyms now and then, avoiding copyright infringement laws?

You look up the IP for the site, then contact the hosting provider. In this case it’s Vultr. Here’s their use policy:
https://www.vultr.com/legal/use_policy/
“As a condition of your use of the Services, you will not use the Services (nor will you permit an end user to use the Services) for any purpose that is unlawful or otherwise prohibited by this AUP.
…
Use any material or information, including images or photographs, which are made available through the Services in any manner that infringes any copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or other proprietary right of any party.”
They’ll shut the site down if the Moose People don’t fix it.
