Our sorry state

* I get emails…
Hi, Rich,
Thought that this might amuse you.
DCFS has solved its problem of having abused/neglected kids sleeping in their state offices. https://wgntv.com/2019/10/07/another-child-in-dcfs-care-sleeps-in-state-office-despite-claims-its-unacceptable/
The department is now having the kids sleep in their providers’ offices.
They have sent cots to providers, and providers now have to have their staff sleep overnight in their offices, too. Literal graveyard shifts.
Unreal.
Letter attached.
The letter is here.

Illinois is one of 50 states. Does any of them handle child welfare emergencies well? If so, let’s find out how they do it, what it costs, and copy it.
- No hotel for this - Friday, Nov 22, 19 @ 12:26 pm:
I don’t know what the answer is when you have cops arrest the parents at midnight and there’s one or more kids that have to be taken into care right that minute. It’s not like there’s a hotel built just for that. Maybe there needs to be, though… not a hotel, but a funded, staffed emergency intake center for every city or at least county. It should be able to keep the children safe for up to 48 hours until other arrangements can be made.

Illinois was the national model. Jess McDonald’s legacy has been lost.
BTW, Jess is still in Springfield in case fixing DCFS is a priority, JB.

As far as the kids are concerned …Illinois appears to be broken…
These are the stories that make my liberal heart bleed.

maybe we could use the social services programs as a wedge issue to bust up the unions SNARK!!

There is a Crisis Center for children in Springfield that keep kids overnight. I’m not positive, but I think the name of the place is the Mini Bryant Center.
