    I wonder where that office is … looks vaguely like the Statehouse but probably isn’t, right?

  2. - Red Raider - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:11 pm:

    Touts results, but doesn’t name a single accomplishment other than winning 5 elections.

    C-

  3. - Truthiness - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:16 pm:

    I give it a B+. Simple and introduces her in the first of probably many ads. Plus that globe in her office is huge.

  4. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:18 pm:

    I will come back to a rating.

    It should be noted, as Ms. Rezin seems to forget, for a whole General Assembly, Ms. Rezin was part of a resistance, holding Illinois, her universities, her social services hostage for a man willing to destroy a state to end organized labor.

    It’s quite phony to say you’re “results”, when in actuality Ms. Rezin was part of an organized resistance to hurt Illinois for an agenda.

    Wanted this “alone” from a rating, while discussing her phony tag line.

  5. - High Socks - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:23 pm:

    I’m Sue Rezin…And I Will Obey

  6. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:28 pm:

    Rating?

    It’s a “B-“

    Why?

    Rezin talking is really great, she looks like a natural, no look of reading a card or searching for answers.

    With the sound off, too much “blank air”, no name, except at the beginning and end, and the results statement is confusing for an intro ad, all we know are the results of winning elections.

    It’s better than a “C”, but it’s wasted screen time with no name visible to remember.

    They can build off this, and that tag line, which I addressed earlier, but for purposes here, it works.

    “B-“

    ==liberal outrage==

    That’s the way to build your base—insult potential voters in your very first ad. /s I give this a C-

  8. - Anon - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:31 pm:

    God I’m so bored

  9. - Donnie Elgin - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:41 pm:

    “liberal outrage- that’s the way to build your base—insult potential voters in your very first ad”

    She running in the GOP primary,the liberals pull the other ballot.

  10. - Bourbon Street - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 4:58 pm:

    @Donnie Elgin, Except that there’s an election coming up called “the general” where liberals get to vote, too.

  11. - Huh? - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 5:06 pm:

    ABR - Anybody But Rezin

  12. - zatoichi - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 5:17 pm:

    It would be nice if she actually named three results she accomplished.

  13. - Marquis - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 5:17 pm:

    Nice intro ad if you are up in the polls and have a resource advantage. Unfortunately neither apply to her. She needs to make a much larger and significant contrast w Obie.

  14. - Pundent - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 5:29 pm:

    =Except that there’s an election coming up called “the general” where liberals get to vote, too.=

    Can’t get there if you don’t win a primary. This is a winning message in today’s Republican party. Winning the general is a conversation for another day.

    To the ad, the challenge that all of these candidates face is that there’s not much that defines one from the other. Hence the canned talking points on “liberal outrage.”

  15. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 6:46 pm:

    === nothing but a R _ _ _… has the R _ _ _ GOP leadership behind her===

    No real grade, but “R _ _ _ “ mouth breathing to let perfect purity be the enemy of the good.

    (Sigh)

  16. - Gooner - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 8:24 pm:

    I watched this one twice.
    The first time, something struck me as unpleasant.
    I had to see it a second time to see confirm that gut reaction, and ended up watching it four or five times (taking one for the team).

    The first part about playing with dogs seemed like an intro to a truck ad. I would expect her to jump into a Ford F150, with the dogs following by jumping in the bed. If not a truck ad, then maybe a Ralph Lauren ad (and I don’t have the slighest clothes she’s wearing - I’m just referencing the feel of the piece). The setting seemed more Barrington Hills than rural Illinois.

    For the second part, someone has to realize that she did not have the voice or the appearance to stare into the camera. It is not her fault, but her eyes look like she’s squinting to see cue cards, and her voice sounds like she’s on the 21st take, trying to emphasize different words this time.

    Finally, the message is one that I see as really bad for these times. It boils down to “I’m a career politician.” That’s not a winning theme.

    I give this one a D. It not well done visually and the message is not one that works.

  17. - Oswego Nerd - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 8:31 pm:

    @Seeking Context,

    That’s Sue’s kitchen. She posts a lot of videos of what she’s making for dinner on her campaign FB page. I have no idea why.

  18. - Candy Dogood - Monday, Feb 10, 20 @ 10:59 pm:

    I have a difficult time grading an ad that leaves me questioning what the candidate means when they say “our people” in a manner that suggests that they don’t mean all of the residences of the district they’re running to represent.

    ===That’s Sue’s kitchen.===

    Her kitchen has a gigantic tacky globe as a prop and a land line in it?

    ===looks vaguely like the Statehouse but probably isn’t, right? ===

    Running your campaign for federal office from the Statehouse has been a Republican tradition since Abraham Lincoln.
