* Rachel Hinton at the Sun-Times…
Alicia Elena Martinez interned in Ald. Ed Burke’s 14th Ward office and then worked for the Burke-controlled City Council Finance Committee in 2016.
She also helped Burke’s re-election campaign last year and shares petition circulators with the veteran alderman and 15th Ward Ald. Ray Lopez, a Burke ally.
And now she’s trying to win the state House seat held by state Rep. Aaron Ortiz, who ousted Burke’s brother two years ago. Martinez and Ortiz are also both running for 14th Ward Democratic committeeperson, a party post Burke has held for more than half a century. […]
Martinez says she finds any suggestion that she’d been picked to run by Burke or others in his political organization to divide the Latino vote was “offensive.”
I mean, Ray Lopez is her campaign committee chairman, for crying out loud.
And then she goes on to attack Ortiz for his Madigan ties. You can’t make this stuff up.

I believe the word we’re all looking for is “chutzpah”.

New normal. She can actually play that up well if she wants.
The line in the mail-
What does Rep Ortiz think of women? He thinks they’re pawns, he thinks they can’t make decisions on their own, he thinks their years of work is not as worthy as work men do. On Election Day let’s prove HIM wrong.

If she’s getting no help, how can she run a campaign with no money and no spending?

===The line in the mail===
She has raised zero dollars. She’s basically in this race to try and distract Ortiz from the 14th Ward Committeeperson race.

I don’t see coincidences as often anymore, as they are sold

* “It doesn’t matter, I’m telling you it doesn’t matter”
* Ignore it and swamp it with some other ridiculousness to shift the focus.
They don’t care if they look foolish, they count on the uninformed to “let it go”
Ugh.

@RM - got it. Too bad missed opportunity for a good attack ad snark intended

… in Spanish. Ortiz has proven to be a student of this game and is becoming quite popular in/for the community.
Her failure to recognize this is a misstep in her sponsor’s, I mean, her analysis.

Would he be acceptable if he wore Jerry Garcia ties?

This is proof once again I think that many pols have still not adapted to the new world of politics in the internet and twitter age where information about backroom deals and “supporters” are readily available for analysis and dissemination outside the smoke filled room.

This tactic of ‘ nothing to see here, move along’ has worn out its welcome on the southwest side of Chicago. Latino voters are getting more sophisticated and do know when someone is trying to bamboozle them. I expect a strong backlash of this nonsense that will land Rep. Ortiz both positions.

Aron Ortiz is pro-women. He is anti against his Burke clone opponent, who is a woman. Big difference.
