Friday, Mar 6, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller * Woke up with an eye stye and I’ve been miserable ever since. Trying to read and write with one eye closed is no fun, either. So, I’m giving up and going back to bed. You’re on your own for a couple two/tree hours. Be nice to each other and please keep the discussion Illinois-centric. Thanks.

Sorry Rich and hope you get better soon with some home care for the stye and relaxation. There’s a certain medicine that although it doesn’t treat the condition it can relieve misery and pain.

Be well, Rich.
That sounds like no fun.
If you have to walk precincts you can’t ask for better weekend weather, including Sunday. It’s usually a luck of the draw but it seems as though Mother Nature and the patron saint of precinct captains, Our Lady of Perpetual Door Knocking have colluded for this nice weekend.

Not much there, they’re only pushing Lipinski and two judges. They are hilarious though. No more great & best services unless this congressman and two judges get elected. The sky will fall! Rat abatement will cease! The service truck will get towed! Graffiti, I tell ya.

Had the question pop into my head for all the strict constructionists out there,by what constitutional authority can the government quarantine me ? If you think about it, the government is depriving you of liberty for the public good without due process. Has this even been through review ? who verifies it is legit ? If I loose my job while under quarantine, why shouldn’t I be compensated ? Doesn’t this violate the constitutions takings clause ?
- DuPage Guy - Friday, Mar 6, 20 @ 11:02 am:
Might as well do a little bit of a shout out to a bill my old neighborhood is trying to get passed.
HB4929 is trying to cap the amount a private water company can raise the fees of a their customers year to year. Private water companies have been buying private water systems and raising fees by 5-10% a year for multiple years. It also makes sure that their payments go to to their water system rather than subsidizing other systems the company may have bought.
(R-75) David Welter is the sponsor. Has been referred to Rules committee. Unless it picks up some Dems it probably isnt going anywhere.

7) Sepulveda
Disagree. She has a growing base of support and is on a lot of palm card.
- Marquee - Friday, Mar 6, 20 @ 11:17 am:
Flynn’s campaign is being funded by Local 399 just like Marty Durkan’s was funded by Local 150.
- Marquee - Friday, Mar 6, 20 @ 11:21 am:
I don’t see Sepulveda going higher than 5. Not a good ballot name and terrible ballot position. Flynn also has terrible ballot position but is on just as many palm cards as Sepulveda and has a much better ballot name. Avila and DuBuclet are locks (I think Avila comes 1st because of better ballot position and name recognition but it could be reversed), the only question is whether Cam Davis or Flynn comes in 3rd.

If Cam loses, it will be because he is on the ballot as “M Cameron ‘Cam’ Davis” instead of just Cam Davis.

I have heard Flynn speak and was not impressed. Best advice is for her not to communicate in public.

@hisgirlfriday - Now doubt those 975 lost Bank jobs will hurt Bloomington/Normal. There are probably a couple hundred more when you consider the IT people and those in other departments who support Bank. And as previously announced the Investments department will be moving to Dallas over the next couple years. Those are high paying jobs that will be sorely missed.
Rivian ramping up is a good sign but doesn’t come close to making up all the State Farm jobs that have recently left Bloomington. And most jobs State Farm are bringing into Bloomington are lower paying call center jobs from closing facilities in other cities.

With all that’s going on politically, people on the blog want to discuss the MWRD? That’s fntastic.
For what it’s worth, I think Mike Grace is going to be in the top 3. He is on the 19th Ward palm card and with the 13th sitting it out, there aren’t a lot of powerful vote producing organizations, save for Thornton.
All of this, coupled with Grace in the top ballot spot, he’s a winner, my frent.

Was teaching the Citizenship In the World merit badge and one of the requirements for the scouts is to talk about a current world event, at the time what was going on with the virus in China came up.
As an example of the differences in freedom and rights between the US and China we talked about how Americans would react to quarantine or travel restrictions within the US.

Does anyone still get a Sunday Sun Times? I mean the print edition. I’ve stopped working Sundays and have been thinking about lying around reading a paper on Sunday afternoons. What I want to know is it worth it? There’s no way I’m giving the Trib any money–look at the people that are leaving and the ones who aren’t (my apologies to Mr. Zorn).

As we know, MLL will soon endorse Biden. Getting cold feet about voting for Sanders, because of his intolerant supporters who despise the Democratic establishment (aka actual Democrats) and have a conspiracy that this is rigged, even though Biden has been winning with little money and African-American voters. How can they win when they push away and reject so many?

I don’t know if Rich is going to do a virus post today, but I’ve been looking at the deaths by age charts some sources have published. It’s seemly more lethal the older the patient is.
But it doesn’t break it down by environment. I’d like to know if most the deaths are in a closed facility like a nursing home where the population is somewhat sheltered from a lot of germs and might have weakened immune systems. Or if it is in an environment where the older people are exposed all the time, like having school age grandkids around, and presumably have more robust immune systems.

Well that will take about 10 minutes. What will you do with the rest of your afternoon?
- Sayitaintso - Friday, Mar 6, 20 @ 2:04 pm:
RNUG, absolutely agree - why isn’t there a chart that would clarify the details in a manner that is honest, up to date and HELPFUL - understood, its a growing problem, and facts may be volatile, but give us an overall snapshot of who, what, where, etc…….the fear we see spreading will only grow and become self-fulfilling in its current path. Someone needs to LEAD.

I get the S-T and Tribune on Sundays.
IMHO, both papers have top-notch reporters who deserve our support.

If preferred, also partake of the bounteous medicine that our Mother Earth provides for us (well, not so bounteous now because we don’t have enough cultivation centers).
O Gaea, we are all your children, yet who sees the tears of pain you cry though your rising waters, record heat and scorching high temperatures, record CO2 levels, warmer water and more powerful storms, melting ice?
