* I have three hugely important errands I need to run today that I couldn’t get to over the weekend.

Please keep your discussion Illinois-centric and be nice to each other. Also, we have a ton of COVID-19 posts, so try to stay away from that topic here. Thanks. Be well.

Word of advice: check out the smaller stores for toilet paper

  3. - Bourbon Street - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 12:44 pm:

I wonder if Bernie will stay in the race if he gets shellacked tomorrow in Illinois, Florida, Arizona, and Ohio.

  4. - Wall Street - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 12:47 pm:

I wonder how turnout will be tomorrow? With all of the vote by mail ballots, no close election should be called tomorrow IMHO.

  5. - Amalia - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 12:50 pm:

wait, is the election still on? so distant….

  6. - Cubs in '16 - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 12:51 pm:

    @Bourbon

I believe he will if only to continue his messaging. His base continues to give him money so why not?

  7. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 12:52 pm:

    Binging and podcasts.

The time to catch up is now. So many. It’s the mental break, this is mentally tough on so many levels.

  8. - JS Mill - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 12:56 pm:

I am thankful for the blog. After making the mistake of looking at reader comments on some of the area newspapers web pages I appreciate everyone here.

  9. - Annonin - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 12:59 pm:

    A little gaming news
Indiana gaming regulators are shutting down all racinos and casinos in the state, as of earlier this morning. “This decision is a precautionary measure,” Caesars stated, assuring guests, “There have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at Caesars Entertainment’s Indiana gaming and racing properties to date.”

  10. - Anon For Now - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:00 pm:

Perfect time to start the Cap Fax book club.

  11. - JoanP - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:04 pm:

    @Anon for Now -

I suggest Boccaccio’s “Decameron” or Albert Camus’ “The Plague”.

  12. - Fixer - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:04 pm:

Anon For Now, what’re you reading then? I’m starting on the HP Lovecraft collection again.

  13. - revvedup - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:18 pm:

Book Club suggestion for these stressed times: “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance”.

In other news, and yes, Virginia, there is other news, elections continue–saw a Conway for State’s Attorney ad on TV about an hour ago.

  14. - Pyrman - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:23 pm:

IDOT is maintaining a regular work schedule, IDOT’s new slogan is” We ain’t afraid of no virus”

  15. - Anon for Now - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:25 pm:

Fixer, lots of political books but staying away from those titles here. Need to check out what the library has available as an ebook. Usually some good popcorn reads there.

  16. - Regular democrat - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:31 pm:

I am predicting an upset in 19th dist for Vasquez tomorrow.

  17. - Dido - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:35 pm:

Are there any campaigns still doing door knocking or lit drops?

  18. - John Lopez - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:35 pm:

Anyone care to venture a guess who wins tomorrow’s Republican primary in the 14th congressional district?

Will Jim Oberweis survive the over $1 million worth of independent expenditures against him, including $900K in broadcast TV/radio ads for the last 10 days by Illinois Conservatives PAC?

Has Sue Rezin caught up and surpassed Oberweis with her three (out of four) newspaper endorsements, her TV commercial advertising and her detailed mailers including her classic verbal jiu-jitsu (commenter here on CapitolFax coined that term).

Or, will Catalina Lauf come back from the dead of her Batavia debate gaffe on the ERA and with her 63K strong Twitter following, surpass the entire field and come in first and win the primary, ushering a new generation of Republican leadership at the congressional level?

Do Ted Gradel, James Marter, Jerry Evans or Anthony Catella have a chance to win?

What’s everyone’s feeling who live in the 14th, like Oswego Willy and others?

  19. - CPA - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:35 pm:

Do we know if Illinois will extend the deadline to pay replacement tax and individual due in April from 2019?

I would imagine they will follow what the IRS does…

  20. - benniefly2 - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:37 pm:

If you get bored while under quarantine or shutdown, you can always play ‘find the weed store’ on google maps. Just go to a town with google maps up and turn on the live traffic. If you see an unusually high traffic volume situation in an area without a lot of other traffic, like an industrial park or something, you have probably found the weed store. Zoom in and check to see if you are correct.

As the State correctly shuts down bars and tries to limit large gatherings of people, how long it will take them to notice the big lines at the adult use dispensaries? Maybe they should allow them to do deliveries during the pandemic until enough new ones open up to keep the lines down.

  21. - Morningstar - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:38 pm:

Has anyone else received their call to complete the Census and gone online to do so? There is some anxiety how this will work now in college communities since the student have left and may not be back….

  22. - Lurker - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:49 pm:

In Springfield we have a somewhat main street called Chatham Road. They were dropping asphalt into the gazillion pot holes on this poorly maintained road when I had to laugh as the cars were following and sending asphalt everywhere. But what was even better was when I went on the road a few hours later and a street cleaner was sending everything, everywhere. It was hilarious!

Oh, and of course, the next day they were filling the holes again (and again not directing the cars not to drive on it).

  23. - Anon221 - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:50 pm:

Recently finished Today We Go Home by Kelli Estes. A compelling tale of two soldiers- one Civil War, one Afghanistan. Get the book club edition for excellent end pages and background on how the book “grew” as the author researched both eras.

  24. - ugh - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:50 pm:

What time is Gov’s press conference today?

  26. - Bruce - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:50 pm:

Tomorrow’s election will be interesting given anticipated lack of supervision and suppression of votes of voters over 60. Just sayin

  27. - Just Another Anon - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:50 pm:

While Rich is on his B double E Double R UN, we all get to have fun.

  28. - Candy Dogood - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:51 pm:

Video games and the internet have certainly made it a lot easier for kids to deal with being at home all day.

  29. - ugh - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:57 pm:

Duh. Sorry, found it. Didn’t see the link on the COVID page:

  30. - Joe Bidenopolous - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:57 pm:

Just another anon - invoking Todd Snider? That’s a win

  31. - TAX CPA - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 1:59 pm:

Do we know if Illinois will extend the payment due date for 4/15. Replacement and individual tax?

  32. - Trying to avoid coronavirus - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:01 pm:

OH postponing election to June. When will IL make the tough but smart decision and do the same?

  33. - City Zen - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:01 pm:

    ==I appreciate everyone here==

    You had me at I.

  34. - Ducky LaMoore - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:02 pm:

“heard bustos as VP pick for Biden… probably old rumor but first I had heard of it”

Since he said he would pick a woman VP, there have been lots of rumors about lots of women. I say Tammy Duckworth (woman, minority, injured combat veteran, experienced. kind of checks all the boxes), but I’m always wrong about these things. Like when I thought John McCain would actually pick a decent VP candidate.

  35. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:02 pm:

My trip to Chicago to see the daughter was anticlimactic. We did eat out saturday night and I didnt notice much difference in the crowds. That will all change now I am sure. I have said it before, but it’s worth repeating. Greater Chicago is one of the best places to visit in the world.

  36. - Just Another Anon - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:02 pm:

@Dido - Did my precinct yesterday. Knocked voters of both parties to encourage them to vote, tell them its safe to do so, and pass along my letter.

  37. - Highland, IL - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:11 pm:

Illinois Review & Downstate Republicans are about one step away from QAnon.

  38. - Original Rambler - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:14 pm:

No sense Biden picking a veep from a safe state like Illinois. IMO more likely to be Kamala Harris, Stacey Abrams or Klobuchar.

  39. - hisgirlfriday - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:16 pm:

Any chance there is a last-minute call to postpone the election and have all voters who wanted to vote on E-Day apply for mail-in ballots?

Ohio’s gov just announced they are postponing it

  40. - Waldi - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:19 pm:

Voted early today at Palatine Village Hall (about 11am). There were more people than I expected, but not too badly crowded. I was surprised at the number of young people voting. No shortage of election judges - I give them a lot of credit.

  41. - Responsa - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 2:42 pm:

    – No shortage of election judges =

I have just been informed within the last hour that there will be a total of 4 election judges available to manage all the necessary processes over 13 hrs at my entire polling place tomorrow. There will be NO use of high school student judges for extra credit this time because schools are closed and they don’t want to potentially expose the students to the virus at the polling place. Ohio has stepped up. Your turn, JB.

Another Boykin supporter ad. Her own constituents don’t have much faith in Rep. Martinez.

  43. - Southwest Sider - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 3:51 pm:

Thoughts about the sharp slowdown of the State’s economy. Spike in shortfall in pension contributions?

== Has anyone else received their call to complete the Census and gone online to do so ==

I’ve gotten 2 mailers. Already gone online and completed it.

This will slow up all renewals for FOID cards, new cards, renewals of CCW and need CCW apps even more- They are already months and months behind- perhaps all expiration dates on current cards should be moved up 6 months..

  47. - Anonymous - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 5:30 pm:

    @John Lopez

I can make an educated guess for Kane. The Ice Cream Man Cometh. The Committeemen have been supporting Oberweis since day one and I believe the results will be there.

Of course, New Prosperity sent me two mailers, and Gradel one, showing Jim and JB together IN THE SAME PICTURE. There is also a picture of Resin and Hillary Clinton together. Pretty sure that one is photoshopped. /s

Oh, and one didn’t like Catalina either because she supported a ‘politician who wouldn’t support Trump’s 2016 campaign’ - the footnote says it was Rauner.

  48. - Proud Sucker - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 5:30 pm:

Sorry. the last one was me.

  49. - 13th - Monday, Mar 16, 20 @ 10:12 pm:

Rich thanks for update, I need to pay and get right to everything, as I read this every day usually at night when I am having a glass of Balnton’s Bourbon (which is very hard to find)Thanks again
