Instead of offering relief to all small businesses, the SBA decided to exclude certain businesses, including political consulting firms. The initial Interim Final Rule issued on the eve of the program’s roll out on April 3, 2020 stipulated that eligibility for PPP loans would be governed by existing SBA regulations which prohibit lending to businesses primarily engaged in political or lobbying activities. After communicating our concerns directly to SBA did not bear fruit, the AAPC Board determined that legal action was necessary to protect the vast majority of AAPC member firms that are small businesses who collectively manage more than $6 billion of campaign spend each election cycle.
Said Rose Kapolczynski, AAPC President: “This lawsuit is about fairness and freedom of speech. Most of our members are small businesses, employing thousands all over the country. Our members are being excluded from the Paycheck Protection Program solely because they are helping candidates exercise their First Amendment rights. That’s wrong.”
I’m old enough to remember when you could walk up to the box office at Wrigley and an hour before first pitch you could get a seat anywhere in the ball park.
It’s not like the “bandwagon” Cubs fans that “found” Wrigley trendy were packing the place when the club would lose 90+ games.
The atmosphere of a ball park, even 1/4 full is part and parcel of the game. In Taiwan they are posting games with no fans, I think I saw that.
The PGA Tour decided June… not May… June… they will start up, and with no fans. Their new normal.
I’m starving for baseball. Would be nice to see, as long as all are safe, and I’m not so selfish that I need folks putting themselves and others in harms way for my amusement.
I too, find the cardboard fans amusing. Potenrial for much hilarity if done properly. The announcers could have fun with it. I watch baseball for the baseball, not the crowds. Bring it.
I remember going to Cubs game 1/4 full, and we’d head down to sit in box seats with no one around. Before long comes the Andy Frain(?) cops and scoot us back on up…..
When I see these ‘fans’ in the stadium, For some reason I recall my first sit down dinner with my future in-laws.
I just got done watching the game. I will be streaming CPBL games every morning until MLB comes back. I can’t believe this isn’t being monetized by MLB or some big media company. Live sports is more in demand than almost anything.

Who was at the meeting that didn’t put a stop to this?

Still… I miss baseball. It hurts.

actually, I think the cardboard fans with masks and the mannequins with wigs, hats and cheering arms are kinda sweet/funny/cute !

Give me baseball. Any wild scenario is fine with me. I am addicted and will take anything I can get.

But who would throw back a home run? It’s not Wrigley, without that.

As an aside as well…
Today, April 15th is the anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier, in 1947.
We are all “42”.

As a Bulls fan I’m happy the GarPax era is over. Hopefully the organization can hit the reset button and make the team relevant again.

They could offer fans the opportunity to have a cutout or mannequin of their choosing to be placed in a seat. Help offset loss of ticket revenue…
- Skeptic - Wednesday, Apr 15, 20 @ 9:39 am:
I think the cardboard fans should be fitted with a loudspeaker and accessible online. You pay a fee and you can heckle your favorite player remotely.

Joe Exotic reminds me more of what the hell happened to Calvin and Hobbes?

I guess with cardboard fans teams don’t need to worry so much about protective netting.
Great time to be rolling out a new channel exclusively devoted to the Cubs.

I am so digging the Taiwan baseball. Top of the 11th, Guardians and whatever team they are playing tied at 5….

One of Royko’s very best columns was the one he wrote about Jackie Robinson’s first game against the Cubs. I get the sniffles every time I read it.

I’m gonna have to find that.
I can use both, some Royko and some baseball nostalgia.
Thanks.
