  1. - Proud Sucker - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:40 pm:

So, if the Governor hadn’t asked about Rep. Bourne’s family, what would that quote look like? This guy just can’t win with some people.

  2. - Roman - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:42 pm:

OW touched on this in the thread about the Christian-Manley text, but it bears repeating: when you’re under stress, taking criticism, and having turn on dime multiple times a day, twitter (and texting) is not your friend. If I were the governor, I would seize my top staff’s smart phones and issue them old school flip phones.

  3. - Perrid - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:43 pm:

Does Rep Bourne really think the governor was “only” calling to check up on her? Does he do that often enough to give her that impression? Just… what?

  4. - Anon E Moose - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:45 pm:

ILGOP always knows how to self-own.

  5. - Centenial - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:45 pm:

Geez. If I am JB… the tweeting and the texting stops. Today.

  6. - Phenomynous - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:49 pm:

And you all thought the Rauner administration was a frat/sorority house.

  7. - Overlord - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:49 pm:

Glad someone finally caller Bourne out on her nonsense. She does this type of thing regularly with the media in her district and is her tool to get re-elected.

  8. - Cubs in '16 - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:50 pm:

What’s the matter Avery; was the governor’s concern not Republican enough for you? Partisan politics is truly going off the rails.

  9. - Flapdoodle - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:50 pm:

–”Does Rep Bourne really think the governor was “only” calling to check up on her?”–

Perhaps just maybe fix this with “Does Rep Bourne really think?”

  10. - southsider - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:50 pm:

We are used to the Republicans constantly criticizing and delivering low blows, but the Democrats generally sit back and take it. Madigan has conditioned people to just let it go. Team Pritzker doesn’t operate that way. Love it or hate it, they kinda of demand you back up your comments. It’s kind of refreshing, albeit not the norm.

Bourne’s statement when taken in context is ridiculous. Was the Governor calling her to vent about the day and just chat? Of course not. And I’m certain the conversation wasn’t simply “How are you? Good? Ok bye.”

  11. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:51 pm:

    Rep. Bourne continues to disappoint.

    I said this earlier…

=== I see the vacuum of political leadership not as those unable to lead, I see it with so many that are so talented that choose not to lead.

I look at the Baileys, the Bournes, the Bryants, the Cabellos… some could be the talent and leaders Leader Durkin can turn to in these times to steer the ship away from the hurtful souls of the Skillicorns or the Wilhours…

    The real disappointment I have?

    Easy.

Those who were the biggest Raunerites and ignore that history and think they weren’t hurtful, purposefully hurtful to this state.

I’m not disappointed by those now refusing to be helpful, honest, politically savvy to science and polling. I’m not disappointed… these are them… showing who they are.===

Prolly not an accident I included Ms. Bourne.

    Nope.

(Hat tip to - Roman -)

  12. - @misterjayem - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:51 pm:

“And you all thought the Rauner administration was a frat/sorority house.”

No, I thought they were barbarians undermining our state’s government and endangering its people.

    Still do.

    – MrJM

  13. - Merica - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:55 pm:

What an atrocious lack of manners. She has more to say about the kind greeting from another human than she does about the swastikas and nazi phrases used at her friends rally’s.

  14. - Dome Gnome - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 12:59 pm:

If there’s ever a time for good social skills and a touch of personal concern, now is the time.

  15. - Opening Game - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:02 pm:

Bourne complained the Governor hadn’t caller her in a letter she wrote to get media attention. Bourne complained when the Governor did call her to get media attention. Can anyone name a single legislative accomplishment of Representative Bourne? Just one?

  16. - Pundent - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:09 pm:

None of this makes Jim Durkin’s job any easier. Remember this the next time that we hear that the ILGOP’s concerns aren’t being taken seriously.

  17. - @misterjayem - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:09 pm:

“Geez. If I am JB… the tweeting and the texting stops. Today.”

And then the Bourne and Wehrli crowd would be crying tomorrow that the governor’s office doesn’t promptly respond to them.

    Bellyachers gonna bellyache.

    – MrJM

  18. - Commisar Gritty - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:15 pm:

MrJM taking approximately 0 prisoners today and I’m here for it. 👏

  19. - Southern IL - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:15 pm:

Are you guys really this dense? She wasn’t complaining about JB asking about her family, she was complaining about that being the only reason he called.

And then right on que, Anne steps in with this gratuitous and petty shot. Just stop.

Never fails, if the post is about Avery Bourne, the comment section will be especially nasty and gross.

  20. - Phenomynous - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:15 pm:

This post is a political Rorschach test if I’ve ever seen one.

  21. - Fixer - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:16 pm:

Why not just put out that if the ILGOP members have issues or concerns they should take them to their chambers’ party leadership first who will then relay it to the Governor’s office?

  22. - Spfld - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:18 pm:

NOTHING will ever be good enough for some Republican legislators. I truly think this one is one of the worst.

If they would spend less time complaining and more time collaborating- we may be able to actually accomplish something.

  23. - @misterjayem - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:20 pm:

“She wasn’t complaining about JB asking about her family, she was complaining about that being the only reason he called.”

And neither you nor Bourne are dumb enough to believe that asking about her family was “the only reason” the governor called her.

    – MrJM

  24. - A State Employee Guy - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:22 pm:

I *really* hate to give Illinois Republican lawmakers credit for standing up for their constituents, and I will be sure to let you know when that happens.

  25. - Excitable Boy - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:22 pm:

    - the comment section will be especially nasty and gross -

Aww, another GOP snowflake heard from. It’s supposed to be Spring y’all.

  26. - Ok - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:24 pm:

    “And neither you nor Bourne”…

Pretty sure that is a single person you and talking about there

  27. - Centenial - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:24 pm:

“And then the Bourne and Wehrli crowd would be crying tomorrow that the governor’s office doesn’t promptly respond to them.”

There are plenty of communications options that don’t involve tweeting at legislators on state time or texting. Email or a phone call come to mind.

  28. - Chambanalyst - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:26 pm:

Bourne’s youth and inexperience show here. Wiser politicians keep that private line of communication between themselves and the governor open. Never know what’s going to happen in the future. Her strategy seems not to extend far beyond the next 24 hour news cycle. Certainly not thinking long-term. All she’s done is send another reverberation through her echo chamber.

  29. - Demoralized - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:26 pm:

Oh for pete’s sake. She needs to grow the heck up.

==Are you guys really this dense?==

You really need to grow up too

  30. - Henry - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:28 pm:

Silly comment from Avery; and others apparently are infatuated with their twitter persona.

  31. - Morningstar - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:28 pm:

In some communities, most conversations (regardless of their real point) almost always begin with, “How’s your mother…” It would be impolite to skip that part.

  32. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:29 pm:

=== she was complaining about that being the only reason he called.===

We can ask Ms. Bourne if no other business was discussed…

Ms. Bourne also inserted herself as part of the story, saying her own issues weren’t addressed, while dismissing courtesy by the givernor. Ms. Caprara is calling her on it.

    I will, no snark, take that breath here and to the Post;

I’ve had this feeling for about 2-3 weeks.

The lack of member management, in particular in the HGOP, has brought on some of the silliest and also dangerous ways this pandemic has faced, referring *only* to the political and the politics.

    Example?

    Mr. Bailey - lawsuit
    Mr. Cabello - lawsuit
    Mr. Wehrli - twittering
    Mr. Breen - lawsuit
    Ms. Bourne - slights

What I’m seeing, and granted it’s me squinting through my window while staying at home, in place during a global pandemic, is folks thinking… or not thinking, you choose… they need to make things about “look at me, I’m fighting or something to seem relevant to *your* side”

Some are silly, or frivolous, some have had some impact to inflame possibly dangerous choices, but here we are… member management… lacking.

    It’s not just Leader Durkin’s Crew needing to take a breath, a good idea is for everyone to think;

Is this an important enough thingy to shift focus to a greater good, or is this about me and what I want in the politics?

“Don’t press send”… think before speaking… be a helper… be someone wanting to find solutions.

The rest will take care of itself.

  33. - Disgruntled GOP - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:30 pm:

Rep. Bourne has been leading with self-promotion since she was plucked out of nowhere as a campaign staffer by Rauner to become a State Representative. This is how she operates. No one here thinks she can get anything done because she hasn’t ever done anything. Matter of fact, no one here even expects her to get anything done. Ask any local Republican elected official here in her district who can really get things done for them in Springfield a pinch when they need it. We here locally know who it is and it isn’t her.

  34. - Howard - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:33 pm:

    Amen to Disgruntled GOP

  35. - dbk - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:40 pm:

People in the administration are stressed and exhausted. It’s understandable and entirely human.

Today’s threads seem to me somewhat more titchy than normal - or is it just me?

I think some of this is attributable to the fact that “Restore Illinois” does not point to any easy return to normalcy, and that’s starting to sink in.

Plus, there’s the court challenge to the Governor’s latest EO. And there’s the fact that the GA hasn’t met in a time of pandemic, and that’s getting to be a real issue.

Right now, Pritzker is on his own; he hasn’t been backed up by either of the other co-equal branches.

That’s a tough spot to be in, both for him, a first-time governor only one year into his term having held no previous elected office, and for his staff.

  36. - Wire Tap - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 1:56 pm:

Bourne should look on the bright side, she didn’t get a call or text from Mitchell (that we know of)…

  37. - Commisar Gritty - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:13 pm:

    @DBK
Definitely noticed that about the threads today as well. People are tearing into eachother, and not just the ususl suspects either.

  38. - Amalia - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:17 pm:

Rep. Bourne trying to get up there in the race for “look at me, look at me” with Rep. Bailey

  39. - {Sigh} - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:23 pm:

To quote a friend: the COVID situation has brought out a side of some people that is not very becoming. {Sigh} now is the time to start acting like professional adults.

  40. - FWIW - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:28 pm:

‘Get off Twitter and Do Your Job’

Ms. Caprara - I would suggest you take your boss’ advice. You’re going to need all the help you can get when the legislature returns to Springfield. This is not helpful and you know that.

  41. - Unboxed Boxer - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:38 pm:

    dbk -

Good observation. Until you mentioned it, I couldn’t put my finger on it.

The Gov has a GREAT team, and no one doubts they are working extra-extra long hours and nights to save lives and jobs.

But the ghost of Richard Goldberg has appeared, and its not helpful.

    Don’t mess with a Caprara.

  44. - Earnest - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:08 pm:

I tend to think more in terms of practicality. You can accomplish more in a conversation with someone if you can communicate privately, bluntly and fully about the issues at hand rather than have to speak formally and guard against how you’ll be quoted later.

  45. - Birds on the Bat - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:28 pm:

Poor form from both parties involved.

  46. - Shytown - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:51 pm:

Among many other things, what this crisis has taught us is that IL GOPers will politicize and criticize anything if it means undermining this Governor, who I think unarguably has led IL through this crisis in the most non-partisan, by-the-facts way possible. Why can’t everyone give the partisanship a rest for just one darn minute.

  47. - Nick - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:54 pm:

The Governor’s office has a right to respond when legislators choose to try and score points like this. The two minutes it took to write up this tweet aren’t going to impact the Governor’s ability to respond.

  48. - Michael Westen - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 5:06 pm:

More arrogance and condescension from Pritzker’s team toward anyone who dares question them. On anything.

  49. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 5:09 pm:

=== More arrogance and condescension from Pritzker’s team toward anyone who dares question them. On anything.===

You haveta be a bot, lol

The governor asked Ms. Bourne about how she was doing and her family.

Ms. Bourne took offense at… humanity.

For someone who spoke so passionately about… life… of an unborn child, you’d think seeing compassion when given *to her* wouldn’t be a political thing.

Again, that’s on me with Ms. Bourne.

    My bad.
