- Stu - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:16 pm:
Baseball…ESPN’s Korean Baseball at 4:30am isn’t cutting it for me.
- Proud Sucker - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:17 pm:
Wearing a dark blue wool uniform and sweating. Yep, I’m one of those. But, again, its time with friends.
- L.A. - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:18 pm:
Being with people. I’ve been working from home since March 12th. Working from home has been great, feel like I’m able to concentrate better and less distractions, but miss people, which is the last thing I thought I would ever say.
Miss arguing with the idiot Cardinal fan at the bar over baseball. Miss arguing with the idiot Patriot fan at the bar over whether Tampa will be any good this year with Brady and Gronk. Miss arguing with the idiot Packer fan (see where I’m going with this) at the bar over whether the Bears should just start Foles and shelve whats-his-face
- Keyrock - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:18 pm:
Visiting parents in a senior living center.
- Boomerang - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:18 pm:
That morel pie is really good stuff. Had some yesterday.
Can’t wait for socializing in goups to return someday.
- Rayne of Terror - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:20 pm:
We’ve gone from practically every night of the week full of sports and music to each kid having one 30 minute music lesson a week. I miss youth baseball. I miss working the concession stand with my friends while small children dither over ring pop flavors.
- Tynie - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:22 pm:
Honestly, I miss helping elders get their groceries onto the bus. Yes, I’ve offered every chance I’ve gotten, but I’ve been turned down. The elders who said no were cool about it, saying it’s a comfort zone thing because of the virus. I’m aware they’re in a high risk category, so I’m OK with the refusals.
- Cool Papa Bell - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:23 pm:
Sports. Youth and adult. Time at the rink with the kids and coaching is so rewarding and playing poorly in the beer league was too much fun.
- Lake County Mom - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:23 pm:
When I go out to eat with my kids, they cut me off mid-sentence, talk over me, make me the butt of their jokes, and eat all the good stuff off my plate (without asking.)
I miss that so much.
- Politix - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:27 pm:
Baseball and the local soft-serve.
- DownSouth - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:28 pm:
My daily trips to Kaskaskia River State Fish and Wildlife Area and Pyramid State Recreation Area. My habit was to visit one in the wee hours each morning just before dawn to get my head right to start the day, and a visit to the other each evening to de-stress from the day.
- Fly Creek - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:30 pm:
My teenage daughter’s friends. No snark. I miss everything about the kids that used to be at our house every weekend, the places I’d drive them to and the conversations I’d get to overhear. I feel like us adults are better equipped to handle this social isolation. I’m worried about our kids.
- JoanP - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:30 pm:
Being with friends. Zoom just isn’t the same. I want to clink wine glasses, give them a hug “hello” and a hug “goodbye”, sit at the same table and pass the potatoes.
- NotMe - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:31 pm:
It’s so trivial it feels silly. But I really miss drinking my coffee while I walk the dog. Mask + coffee doesn’t work.
- Big Jer - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:38 pm:
I love books especially non-fiction and am a frequent patron of libraries, local and college libraries. So I miss not being able to get books from the libraries, and especially the college library system. My sense is the college libraries may not open until this Fall. I am not a fan of ebooks so it is going to be a long summer.
- Iamthepita - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:42 pm:
I’m sorry, I can’t read the writing above the word “sauce” in the above photograph. I’m curious to what kind of sauce it is, can anyone assist? (My apologies for the off-the-point post but I’ll say this, I simply miss the somewhat tangible fabric of humanity we had before this whole thing, now it feels like a slight tear on our somewhat worn state flag that needs stitching in order to wave gently in the wind…)
- Boone's is Back - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:45 pm:
America leading the way.

That morel pie is high end
- yinn - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:55 pm:
Doing stuff with friends and family: hiking, lunch, Friday night fish fry at the neighborhood watering hole. I drive out of state to visit a dear cousin spring and fall — I miss both the cousin and the drive.
- Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 2:58 pm:
Of course, miss my family, the grands, and live music in jazz clubs.
Also, day drinking in the gin joints.
- Dome Gnome - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:00 pm:

- Practical Politics - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:13 pm:
“Opening Day” for MLB.
- Joe Bidenopolous - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:21 pm:
So much. Mostly, socializing with friends in person. I miss coaching my kids baseball team - champions last year returning nearly everyone. I miss my daughter’s high-flying daredevil act. I *really* miss concerts. I even miss session…well, some of the people associated ith session, I guess.
- Saluki Mom - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:25 pm:
Turns out that I like working from home a lot, so I don’t miss the office. I miss Cubs baseball and seeing how David Ross works out as a manager. I also meeting up with my friends for a drink or a meal. I miss my college kid too, but that’s normal.
- revvedup - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:27 pm:
I miss going into businesses without worrying about wearing PPE (homemade mask and lightweight vinyl gloves). I also miss smiles on women’s faces (I’m a guy, so…)
- dbk - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:28 pm:
I live abroad and have been commuting between Europe and Illinois for many years; the last 15 or so I’ve been returning twice a year, sometimes for months as my folks grew older.
So what I miss most is … Illinois. My home. My friends. Cousins’ reunions in little towns throughout central and west central Illinois. Church every Sunday with one cousin. Walking to a grocery story or mall and window shopping, visiting my neighborhood public library.
Don’t have any idea when or if I’ll make it back, and that causes incredible, almost unbearable sadness.
- papa mayor - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:34 pm:
Thanks Rich for question of day, or anytime you are able to take a break from the Covid 19 conversation/news. Really enjoy the comments of how people are handling this pandemic at home. Very uplifting!
- Nick Name - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:37 pm:
The nearby vineyard.
- Dog Lover - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:49 pm:
My dog. Wing night at the Roadhouse with friends. Cardinals baseball. Weekend breakfast at Jack’s.
I don’t miss winter, so it can take a hike.
- Commonsense in Illinois - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:50 pm:
It’s the first Wednesday in May which is the traditional day for the IMA and IRMA to hold their annual party under the tent in Springfield.
The best event of the spring session…except of course the End of Session Party.
- RNUG - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:51 pm:
Eating out with friends. Serving the grandkids but we are starting to ease that a bit.
- Saul Goodman - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:53 pm:
I know this isn’t exactly on point, but I’m really overdue for a haircut.
- Oswego Willy - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 3:58 pm:
=== most===
I miss people.
I miss rude people, funny people, people I love, people that make me cringe, I miss “baseball” people, I miss people who make me think, I miss people before this started I never thought much about.
I miss the human experience.
I miss the angry guy at the end of the bar yelling at the tee-vee weatherman… I miss the bartender ignoring that guy at the end of the bar yelling at the tee-vee weatherman…
I miss people I really need to spend much more time with but haven’t.
I miss family people, blood and otherwise.
I miss most?
People. I miss them. I miss the people.
- bogey golfer - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:07 pm:
1. Sports. Baseball, golf (my Sunday foursome), seeing playoff hoops and hockey, even Premier League Soccer on Saturdays.
2. Fellowship. Not only at church, but having one or eating out with family and friends.
3. Receiving communion at Mass.
4. Being part of a true community.
- Daddy Bud - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:12 pm:
I miss seeing my grandkids, going out to Friday night dinners with friends’ church on Sunday, and just going to the neighborhood bar for lunch. I hope the scientists find a cure A.S.A.P.
- GDUB - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:27 pm:
Swimming. I miss staring down at that black line on the bottom of the pool. I miss the tired body and empty mind. And I missed the state masters swim meet, where I surely would have won some medals!
- School Finance - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:38 pm:
I miss not being afraid for my life and my families every time I leave the house.
- Rich Miller - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:40 pm:
As far as work goes, I miss sitting in the press box, asking zingers at a press conference, working the crowd around the rail, walking through the Stratton and hanging out in legislative offices, doing Jak Tichenor’s show, finding a story after showing up at some random committee hearing (one of my favorite things on a slow day), popping in to Patterson’s office, swinging by Durkin’s office on my way to “5:30 at the Mo,” the crowds at Saputo’s, the old timers and their stories, the enthusiastic and optimistic young people, the Senate Executive Committee, shaking hands, slapping backs, smiling, laughing. I miss that feeling I still get to this day when I walk up to that gorgeous Statehouse and when I walk on that big marble staircase. I miss everything so very much. I even miss Steve Brown’s non-answers, that horrible little elevator behind the House chambers and the tourists.
Whew. That was cathartic.
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:40 pm:
Live music. Obviously, friends and family, but I don’t know if I’ve gone this long without popping my head in somewhere to see a band play. I miss the Chicago concert venues, both divey and non-divey.
- Kirk Dillard - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 4:54 pm:

I still call it “The Cell,” and I miss it very much. Baseball. I need it.
- JS Mill - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 6:42 pm:
Honestly, not much.
I miss baseball a little, just a little.
My kids are getting close to college age, one is off to college in the fall, so the time home with them has been pretty special. I knew that when schools were closed they probably were not opening this year. Unfortunate for my senior, but I don’t feel bad for being selfish, this time with them has been the silver lining in my life. I know it has been hard for so many, but I cannot help but take joy in this time with my kids that would not have happened otherwise.
- FormerParatrooper - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 6:47 pm:
Going fishing with Granddaughter. Taking wife to dinner. Doing my laundry at a laundromat while on the road for work and going to dive restaurants that locals point me too.
- Finally Out - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 7:58 pm:
Motorcycle rides with our friends.
- West Side the Best Side - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 8:12 pm:
Going totally Irish here - during Covid 19 several friends and family members of friends have died, none from Covid 19, but because of it no wakes or funerals were held. Phone calls, text messages or posts on Legacy just not the same as being able to see people in person to offer condolences. If you don’t go to other people’s funerals they won’t go to yours.
- MSIX - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 9:32 pm:
Restaurants, baseball, a few pints at the pub…
- Levois J - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 9:46 pm:
The answer to that question is so broad, I think I’d take up too much time even now to answer. I cant wait until we’re even close to the other side of the curve.
- G'Kar - Wednesday, May 6, 20 @ 10:36 pm:
Baseball, not being in the classroom to teach, and baseball.

Doing what I want, when I want.
- Froganon - Thursday, May 7, 20 @ 10:49 am:
I miss hugging and being with my kids, grandkids and friends. I miss being at ease outside with people, shaking hands, asking how they are without bracing for a sad answer. I want one of those pies.(banned punctuation)
