Question of the day

Wednesday, Jul 22, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* If you click here and scroll through, you’ll see the 137 accounts that Gov. Pritzker follows on Twitter. State agencies, top staff, the congressional delegation, other governors and Illinois statewide electeds dominate the list. Not a lot of fun stuff. And he follows no news media accounts.

* The Question: What Twitter accounts would you recommend he follow? Make sure to explain, and yes, it is a slow state news day today. There is some stuff going on, but I’m stuck waiting for more info before I can post anything.

    Chicago Party Aunt….it’s just a blast to follow and lots of back in the day reminders of historical ads/billboards, bars, clubs, whatever

  2. - Chatham Resident - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 10:51 am:

    Does the Governor follow your Twitter account, Rich? If not, that would be a good place to start.

  3. - Frank talks - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 10:53 am:

    Radical Candor (where have you been)

  4. - GV - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 10:54 am:

    The Consumer Safety Product Commission (https://twitter.com/USCPSC). It is like no other government twitter account I’ve ever seen, well until New Jersey came along.

  5. - Give Me A Break - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 10:56 am:

    “Springfield Leaks”. They don’t always get the story right, but they get the story first. LOL

    I may have missed them - but I would suggest the IL State Universities.

  10. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:00 am:

    No @capitolfax? Huh?

    That has to be an oversight…

  11. - Gooner - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:03 am:

    Agree on ChicagoBars and JohnAmador.

    The other must is @alainaxhampton.

    She had the guts to stand up to the Speaker and her tweets to continue to show both an important perspective combined with a true toughness.

  12. - Just Me 2 - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:05 am:

    My new favorite account to follow is @barrybutler9
    He is a meterologist and photographer who gets some awesome shots because he understands the science of what makes a great landscape shot.

  13. - Dave Dahl - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:06 am:

    Super70sSports alone is worth being on Twitter.

  14. - Just Me 2 - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:06 am:

    I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: If I were only allowed to follow one twitter account, it would be @robertloerzel.

    @hannahmeisel
    -best nooks-and-crannies of state government tweeting

    @drixander
    -Smart takes on every topic, helpfully threaded back to the creation of the universe

    @misterjayem
    -The moral center of Illinois political Twitter, to the extent such a thing exists

  21. - lake county democrat - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:19 am:

    @mattklewis

    You should at least be aware of conservative thought - Lewis is a palatable “never trumper” who will present and analyze whatever arguments conservatives are making these days, be they from good faith “never trumpers” like himself or from the MAGA crowd.

    (I’d offer a more local version but I don’t know of any - all the local conservatives I see are Trumpish or Raunerish).

  22. - IL4Life - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:20 am:

    The Lincoln Project (@ProjectLincoln) would be a good follow for him personally to get ideas on anti-Trump messaging, and how to counter Trump-y ILGOP members of the General Assembly. I think their messaging has been good.

  23. - SIUEalum - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:31 am:

    Easy question.

    @capitolfax

    I’m really surprised Pritzker doesn’t follow the best political journalist in Illinois

  24. - Precinct Captain - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:32 am:

    @tweetsofold

  25. - Precinct Captain - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:33 am:

    Explaining tweets of old, it’s posts from historical newspapers. Always fun around Christmas when it is excerpts from letters kids sent to Santa

  26. - Gooner - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:42 am:

    One more:

    @allenskillicorn

    This is more for entertainment than anything. It is always great to read about what gets him angry.

    Yesterday he tweeted that he now hates baseball. Today, he vowed never to travel to Chicago.

    It is strange but wonderful.

  27. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 11:56 am:

    What’s Twitter?

  28. - So_Ill - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 12:11 pm:

    Barstool Carl

  29. - ChicagoBars - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 12:29 pm:

    Better future slow news day question: Which twitter account do you think is his burner account?

  30. - @misterjayem - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 12:41 pm:

    “Which twitter account do you think is his burner account?”

    This is what I figure.

    No way he doesn’t have an alt that’s following Rich and Svengoolie.

    – MrJM

  31. - pool boy - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 12:52 pm:

    @Arizona Bob
    @Oswego Willy
    @Vanilla Man
    I am in the same boat as 47th Ward, what is twitter?

  32. - OneMan - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 12:56 pm:

    “Which twitter account do you think is his burner account?

    @Norseman

  33. - Lefty Lefty - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 1:25 pm:

    I agree @misterjayem is worth following.

    Also @chicagobars - great perspective on the hospitality industry

    @RexChapman has one of the most entertaining feeds on Twitter

    @BlockClubCHI

    Oh and @ASlavitt - Obama’s ex-healthcare head - has daily COVID updates that cannot be missed.

    @darth

  34. - RIJ - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 1:25 pm:

    Kitten Academy, because kittens. They always have one to two litters at different stages to melt over. The current litter is seven adorable orange and orange and white kittens.

  35. - Just Wondering - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 1:39 pm:

    I’d have to agree with following @allenskillicorn. It’s pure comedy and he does get fired up so that would give the Governor a good laugh. Plus he needs to follow @capitolfax to keep up on the happenings in Illinois since he’s so busy.

  36. - L Rider - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 4:05 pm:

    @RTA_Chicago and @KDillardRTA

  37. - Flexible One - Wednesday, Jul 22, 20 @ 9:57 pm:

    Actually I don’t believe he’s not following CapFax. If he’s truly not following CapFax that makes me question his judgement on issues regarding meaningful intelligence sources. What a loss for the Gov.
