Sayers was Devin Hester before Devin Hester was a thought.
Sayers, a Hall of Famer with so few games, a testament to how he played and his explosiveness as a player.
The made for television movie “Brian’s Song”, still makes me cry. The language used, for tv, at that time, still so shocking, but also so honest to Piccolo and Sayers.
Both Sayers and Piccolo are the best of the Chicago Bears and the team’s folklore.

An observation from having been in Louisville, Clay County, for the last two days: very few Bailey signs in town. I could count them on one hand. I wonder why…is it not worth Darren’s effort? He doesn’t have enough in the campaign fund to have more signs made?
Also not seen in Louisville–masks. No surprise there.

Harvest has started in our part of central Illinois.
Seen a couple of bean fields done, a few corn fields have been started. Be careful out there folks, those combines, grain wagons and grain trucks move slow and don’t turn on a dime. Give em some space and be patient.
Give me a Break,
I remember that when I was a kid. I still marvel at the sheer courage it takes to get those ungainly, huge, sometimes top heavy things out on a highway and drive them. I would be so terrified of all the other drivers out there!
Despite losing to the Pirates last night, that other Chicago Baseball Team still managed to clinch an NL playoff spot.
Meanwhile the Cardinals, despite being 27-25, currently hold onto the #5 playoff spot in the NL.
And if the standings hold the NL Central, despite how weak it is in this shortened season, might actually get 4 teams (everyone but the Pirates) in the expanded playoffs.
Thanks for that gentle reminder Give Me a Break! Same here in southern Illinois. Please give our farmers a break - be patient, be kind, be considerate - oh wait; how about we all just do that with each other anyway?
Also, Shimpf and Plummer have once again spoken and demanded that we open up region 4, utilizing accusations of nefarious behavior on the part of IDPH and the Gov., and some rather ridiculous ideas to justify their demands. (don’t count prisoners. Don’t count LTC, Don’t count anyone who isn’t out in the community. )
The Daily Herald just endorsed Rep. Mussman for the first time since 2010 when she was first elected. Which says more about the editors than the Representative.

RIP Gale Sayers, a great Chicago athlete whose career was cut short by injuries.

Adam Engel needs to be starting and playing center field in the game tonight.

Initial crop yields appear to be strong for area farmers. That’s a good thing!

Anyone with a beating heart who ever saw the movie “Brian’s Song” would shed at least one tear today upon hearing of Gale Sayer’s passing.

It must be fall - bridge lifts start today in Chicago. And, of course, being in Chicago, they’ll take longer than usual due to construction.
