Bailey on Pritzker: “This man has got to pay the price… he is destroying Illinois”

Friday, Oct 23, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Center Square

Republican state Representatives from southern Illinois are on the road with stops across the state holding rallies for what they call the “Restore Illinois Bus Tour.”

They stopped in Springfield Thursday. […]

State Rep. Darren Bailey, R-Xenia, was at the Springfield stop. He told the crowd his efforts in the courts against Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s COVID-19 executive orders are crucial to restoring Illinois, and he’s succeeding. […]

“This man has got to pay the price,” Bailey said. “He has devastated families, he is devastating businesses, he is destroying Illinois and I believe now every day that goes by the reasons and the proof of that grow.”

Bailey claims the governor is trying to destroy the state’s economy “to be first in line for a federal bailout.”

Way to promote a healthy dialogue, Darren.

…Adding… More nonsense from Bailey is here.

One could say Bailey is destroying IL with telling everyone they don’t have to wear a mask. All of Bailey’s crazy lawsuits is not helping Illinois.

  3. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:14 am:

=== “This man has got to pay the price,” Bailey said.===

    1) What’s the price to be paid? Jail? That’s what you think will work in a dialogue, promoting… jail?

    2) Who is going to make the governor pay the price? You expect a voluntary jailing? Troopers arresting? How do you see this ending… with jail?

    3) What exactly are you trying to gin up with such anger and what reads, given recent history of governors and “paying prices”?

I can’t see any elected official forcing a jailing of a Governor being able to find a common ground for that elected official.

It’s a time for serious people and serious solutions, Bailey isn’t at all serious and has no serious solution.

  4. - Bootleg Carhartt Designer - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:15 am:

    And the Tribune endorsed him.

== 1) What’s the price to be paid? Jail? That’s what you think will work in a dialogue, promoting… jail?==

Unfortunately I could see some nutcase interpreting “pay the price” in a much harsher, violent way. Words and phrasing matter, and this is an absolutely horrible choice of words.

  6. - Lincoln Lad - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:17 am:

I cancelled my Trib subscription over this cycle’s endorsements. Bailey and Curran.

  7. - Pass the Butter - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:17 am:

The Community of Illinois and the people of the 55th District are better than cheap populism and threatening rhetoric.

    For shame, sir.

==Bailey claims the governor is trying to destroy the state’s economy “to be first in line for a federal bailout.”==

Breaking: Downstate Republican expects his party to be swept out of the Senate and White House in two weeks.

  9. - Obama’s Puppy - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:19 am:

Please pretty please run for Gov Darren, I’m sure the ticket of you and Skillicorn would sweep the state

  10. - Cheryl44 - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:20 am:

Of course the Trib endorsed him.

    Reading is fundamental.

If I have to spell it out…

Passed his bus on the way home from vacation. I won’t say that I flipped him off as I drove by since this is a family blog & Mrs. Interim was napping.

  13. - Pundent - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:28 am:

Yesterday the U.S. set a record with 77K new Covid-19 cases. We aren’t turning the corner, we’re falling off a cliff. What is the GOP plan to address this?

  14. - hisgirlfriday - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:33 am:

Not sure if my earlier post pending on this topic in the general thread will get posted or not but Sen. Bailey also swung through Bloomington-Normal last night with his bus and another SUV decked out with his name.

He was in a caravan of 15 or so Trump-flag-waving cars heading up northbound Veterans Parkway in rush hour going slow in the left lane. Unfortunately the lead car was a sports car that kept having its Trump flag blow from the drivers side window to totally block the drivers side windshield causing the lead car to need to continually brake to address it and disrupt traffic further.

This display did not increase my support for Sen. Bailey or Trump.

  15. - Jimbo26 - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:33 am:

People at Bailey’s rallies are not wearing masks and will spread Covid and cause shutdowns and then blame JB.

    ===Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:14 am:===

    Ditto.

I hope he is forced to clarify his remarks so that we step out of this gray area where he’s flirting with supporting a right wing terrorist plot.

  17. - Skeptic - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:39 am:

“This man has got to pay the price,” You know, there’s an existing recourse for Abuse of Power. It’s even been used within the past 10 years. If they were serious about it, they should pursue that option.

  18. - train111 - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:40 am:

    2022 Illinois gubernatorial election results:

    JB Pritzker 62%
    Darren Bailey 38%

  19. - TheUpperRoom - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:45 am:

If people would wear masks and look out for each other, restrictions could be eased.

There are valid points to be made about how we balance safety with business, but this doesn’t seem like its about that at all. Sad.

  20. - Jibba - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:46 am:

I think the price is a second term, if you ignore the loud superminority.

  21. - kingfish - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:49 am:

Darren Bailey is basically part of the death cult people. Also he says Governor pritzker is “destroying Illinois” he must have a memory problem because where was all this talk when Rauner was governor whose whole goal was to bankrupt the state. Just to gut the unions

  22. - JS Mill - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 11:50 am:

    =JB Pritzker 62%

    Bundle of sticks 28%
    Darren Bailey 10%=

Bailey is just throwing red meat out to the lowest common denominator. History will forget his name.

  23. - Rudy’s teeth - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:01 pm:

Darren, every local grocery chain has liquor available for carry out. Grab a few frozen pizzas while you’re there or order delivery from local businesses.
Stay home, sit down, be quiet and just stop. Now is not the time for grandstanding. What a maroon.

  24. - Dotnonymous - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:06 pm:

    From tiresome to wearisome.

  25. - Club J - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:07 pm:

I looked at a picture from the Bailey circus yesterday in Springfield and one person had a mask on. Two children in the couple dozen people one child in a wheelchair and all right next to each other. Bailey right there in the middle. It looked like a Coronavirus worship service.

After what happened to the Governor of Michigan I hope someone makes Bailey tone down his rhetoric some. His friends sure take him seriously these days.

  26. - Steve Rogers - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:09 pm:

@train111: you think it will be that tight of a race??

  27. - Norseman - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:15 pm:

Sadly, the GOP’s anti-health measures campaign has been a major success for COVID-19. The cases and deaths continue to grow. Of course the GOP doesn’t care.

  28. - thechampaignlife - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:23 pm:

    Darwinism at work.

  29. - thechampaignlife - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:24 pm:

I should clarify, that is Darren & Co going maskless that is Darwinian.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:27 pm:

This type of language by Bailey is how things escalate.

    This today… in Ohio;

    https://t.co/RvPOPhcCvp

“Ohioan reports being recruited for plot targeting Gov. DeWine at his home”

    Bailey needs to clarify.

    Immediately

  31. - Roadiepig - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:27 pm:

When one of our soldiers dies in action, we call that “paying the ultimate price”. So I think it’s pretty obvious what he was saying about the governor “ paying the price”. Michigan has their work my nuts that we’re planning on putting their governor “ on trial” too. Wonder what price she would have paid if the somehow convicted her of crimes against the state?

  32. - Jibba - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:30 pm:

    …COVID is destroying Illinois…

    Fixed it for you.

  33. - Dotnonymous - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:43 pm:

    (Breaking News))

The name of the virus is not Governor Pritzker…for those who appear confused beyond reason.

  34. - Demoralized - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:45 pm:

Yeah. All the Governor’s around the country are taking actions that harm their economy just for the heck of it. If this pandemic hasn’t taught me anything else its that this country is absolutely full of more maroons than I could have imagined.

  35. - G - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:55 pm:

Hmmmm all left sided comments. Imagine that.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 12:58 pm:

    === all left sided comments===

    - G -

Ya wanna make a comment that we need to “lock up the Governor”… that’s the other side, friend.

  37. - Demoralized - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 1:00 pm:

    ==Hmmmm all left sided comments.==

And that’s reason number 1 for why the United States has been an abysmal failure in it’s response to this pandemic. Some of you maroons think it’s political. Pandemics don’t have political parties. They kill everyone equally. As I said, maroons, and that includes you.

  38. - Jibba - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 1:04 pm:

    …left sided comments…

And they are wrong how? Better return to your safe space.

  39. - Thomas Paine - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 1:21 pm:

I saw video, it looked like there were five people in the “crowd”.

  40. - Club J - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 2:12 pm:

**** Hmmmm all left sided comments. Imagine that.****
Well you opened the door. Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? Tell us what needs to be done differently. Don’t be shy.

  41. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 2:13 pm:

There’s nothing “conservative” about reckless endangerment of people’s lives and health—not to mention economic harm— by not masking up, social distancing and other mitigation practices and requirements. The opposite of conservative would be harming the economy further by not properly handling the root cause of the problem, the virus.

  42. - Joe Bidenopolous - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 2:26 pm:

=Hmmmm all left sided comments. Imagine that.=

    Triggered snowflake

The governor needs to pay a price?

Please, tell more. Clarify the thought. Use your words.

  45. - Club J - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 3:31 pm:

*** One of the few lawmakers to speak the truth.****
Why all the one liners? Tell everyone what’s on your mind. That’s what Rich has this for. The rest of us have said what we feel about the remarks from Bailey. He’s dangerous for Illinois and will cause people their lives.

So has stated use your words and state your case.

  46. - Lincoln Lad - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 3:41 pm:

Hypothetically - God forbid, if we have 400,000 dead, will Bailey see the problem and change his dangerous rhetoric? With cases and ICU placements across the country exploding- it’s not that hard to envision. I don’t know him, so what would be a serious enough result to get him to wake up?

  47. - former state employee - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 4:24 pm:

What a bozo, and my apologizes to the WGN Bozo

  48. - Pundent - Friday, Oct 23, 20 @ 4:32 pm:

=I don’t know him, so what would be a serious enough result to get him to wake up?=

This is Bailey’s brand at this point. Nothing will change that. What we need to do is have other members of the ILGOP show some backbone and call him out for who and what he is. From Jim Durkin on down they are complicit in their silence. And as long as they are Darren Bailey will be the voice of the ILGOP.
