  1. - Wow - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:04 am:

    No precinct work. Playing golf

  2. - Montrose - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:05 am:

I’m going to spend the day making calls in support of the Fair Tax. Most years I am not doing outreach on election day. That and gathering all the comfort food and alcohol necessary to make it through. My apologies to those that show up at the liquor/grocery store after me.

  3. - JS Mill - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:06 am:

I am going to law low since I voted more than a month ago.

  4. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:07 am:

Retired, so no work for the first election in years. Voted by mail in September, so for me the election is long over. Afternoon in tree stand.

  5. - So_Ill - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:07 am:

A bottomless glass of bourbon on the recliner compared to an election night party.

  6. - Nick - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:07 am:

I am going to be alone, and I am going to be drinking.

  7. - Ducky LaMoore - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:08 am:

Going to vote first thing. Then I’m going to work. Same stuff, different year.

  8. - Norseman - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:08 am:

I plan on putting on a mask and going to vote. I miss the voting early I did in Illinois. The other difference is that I’ll be babysitting my grandson while his mom and dad vote.

  9. - Anyone Remember - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:08 am:

Wow - is that you Tom Cross?

  10. - MSIX - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:09 am:

Already voted. Gonna be a nice day. Time for a long bike ride.

  11. - Intheknow - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:09 am:

    Vote, then golf.

  12. - The W.A. - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:10 am:

Going fishing and not thinking about it. I took Wednesday off. I might have a massive hangover.

  13. - Gruntled University Employee - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:10 am:

Since I voted a couple of weeks ago I will probably spend the day fishing.

  14. - jabes - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:14 am:

Will be different for me this year. I’ve always voted on election day in the past, but this year I voted by mail. Will miss the celebratory “I voted” doughnut I usually treat myself with from the shop near my voting place!

  15. - RNUG - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:14 am:

Already voted early in person. Probably work around the house on a few needed repairs.

Thought about going to a campaign party I got an invite to but decided to skip it. Will try to ignore the early returns but expect I will tune in at some point.

Probably have a drink depending on the results.

  16. - Steve Rogers - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:15 am:

I’ll vote first thing, then probably rake up all of the leaves that came down in my yard from yesterday’s wind gusts.

  17. - Give Me A Break - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:16 am:

Vote, then do some work around the house. Check in once in a while here to see any news. Then around 7, sit back and watch the circus play out in real time.

  18. - DownStateR - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:16 am:

main differences are I’ve already voted and my kids will all be off school.

  19. - Jose Abreu's Next Homer - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:17 am:

I work for a stock broker-dealer and manage a team that has orders 24 hours 5 days a week, so I’ll be checking the markets and checking in with my overnight guys to see if stuff hits the fan. We’re not allowing any days off this week (except family emergencies).

  20. - snowman61 - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:21 am:

Going to drive to and from central Wisconsin to see my grandson (1st grandchild) who was born on 10/29/2020. I’m retired but wife still works so with her new day off (thank you ) we are taking advantage since we couldn’t wait until this weekend. 1st time we early voted as our custom was vote on election day after work, together and then go out for dinner. We are not always on the same sides of the political theater so dinner and drinks afterwards was our way to call it quits till the next show.

  21. - Earnest - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:23 am:

Voted by mail. Work, then home to watch a movie.
Stay away from the news until Wednesday morning. Confidence is low that the plan will succeed.

  22. - Shark Sandwich - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:24 am:

I voted early at the county, but this year is different because I will be taking my daughter to vote (day of) for her first time!

  23. - MakePoliticsCoolAgain - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:26 am:

Already voted, but that isn’t new. This year I will be phone banking all day for Biden in battleground states. Didn’t do enough in 2016, but this time I’ve been much more engaged and involved since March.

  24. - OK Boomer - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:27 am:

Hunkering at home in an ad hoc bumper made of blankets and stocked with carbs. The difference for me from 2016 is that the cannabis will be legal this time around. ;)

  25. - thoughts matter - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:29 am:

Already voted. Will run errands, do items around the house. Watch the beginning results in a different room from my spouse. Explain repeatedly that the media doesn’t decide the election even if they think so. The elections are not certified for a couple weeks due to items like military votes showing up after Nov 3rd.

  26. - Stix Hix - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:32 am:

No school, so I’ll be tuning pianos and doing some poll watching.

  27. - cermak_rd - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:34 am:

I have already voted in person. So work during the day and clarinet in the nighttime. If I must read election coverage, I’ll checkout the dw.com feed and see what they have to say. And I’ll probably be getting noticias from Univision throughout the evening as well which I might or might not read.

  28. - thisjustinagain - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:37 am:

to Nick’s post “I’m going to be alone, and I’m going to be drinking.” Is this due to the election itself? There’s not enough liquor in that case.
I live seconds over the south border of Chicago, so an ear up for the SJW Antifa rioters on the scanner, an eye on the tube later, and keeping an equalizer handy.

  29. - EA/WR - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:37 am:

Early voted and serving as an election judge for the first time to make sure that the election can run smoothly in Madison County!

  30. - Peoples Republic of Oak Park - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:38 am:

Xanax and a warm blanket…In all seriousness, It feels weird not having to work a GOTV in earnest.

  31. - AlfondoGonz - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:39 am:

I will be taking my dad to our polling place and we’ll be doing our civic duty. This in and of itself is different, because only 4 (excruciatingly long) years ago, my dad would refuse help carrying a refrigerator down the steps, but now it takes a yeoman’s effort to get him out of bed.

After I vote, I will go home and watch the returns with my wife and drink good bourbon.

That’s different, in that every other year I’ve walked from my polling place to a watering hole near the L and watched the returns from there.

  32. - Out of towner - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:41 am:

Going to vote in the morning, then off to a friend’s house to brew beer

  33. - Cool Papa Bell - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:42 am:

Vote in person, wait until 10 pm turn on the national news, turn off national news at 10:05, try and get a good nights sleep.

  34. - Quizzical - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:48 am:

I voted by mail. I enjoy the rituals of Election Day, but I got Covid in the Spring and think it may have been from voting, or maybe I had it and gave it to other while voting. Either way, I’m not doing that this year.

I will probably having an extra, extra strong drink and praying for the best.

  35. - 47th Ward - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:49 am:

Vote early, then start drinking. The plan is to be blackout drunk before the polls close so that I can pass out and miss the next 24 hours of pain, fear and loathing. I hope to wakeup sometime late Wednesday to find out what happened.

Most likely, whatever it is will still be happening.

  36. - Streator Curmudgeon - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:50 am:

Vote, then try to stop wondering how we got to where we are.

  37. - JoanP - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:56 am:

I voted early, which is rare for me. I like going to the polls, but due to a couple of appointments and not knowing what the wait will be, I decided not to risk it.

It will be sad that I won’t be able to give you a precinct report, but, honestly, with so many people voting by mail and early voting, I’m not sure those tell us too much any more.

I expect I’ll watch some of the returns, but I don’t really expect we’ll know the outcomes of a lot of the races for a while yet.

  38. - Froganon - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 11:58 am:

We voted early. I’m eating Halloween candy, no trick or treaters. Will call for Casten today and tomorrow. I’m hoping for Biden, Casten, Fair Tax wins but preparing for the worst. I’ll be marching to count every vote on Wednesday.

  39. - Chambanalyst - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:01 pm:

Voted early. Will likely do a few hours of office work followed by some work around the house. Maybe get out and hit a few golf balls if time permits before coming home and pouring a stiff drink to prepare for election night.

  40. - Rural Survivor - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:02 pm:

Vote, go to work, dinner, Lions meeting, watch results at home, sleep. Normal election routine.

  41. - Responsa - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:11 pm:

Will be at the polls at 5:00AM to start my all day gig as an election judge. After I get home, the biggest difference for me tomorrow night from previous election nights is that I plan to get most of my results online from several decision desk sources I trust. I am going to forego the network TV and cable yapping this year as it drove me bonkers in 2016 and I expect the talking heads to be even worse and more annoying this year.

  42. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:20 pm:

Voted weeks ago. I haven’t done carryout in a couple of weeks so I’ll probably get something to eat and continue my Time Team marathon on Amazon. I don’t plan to look at the news until Wednesday, but as others have said, that may not work.

  43. - Les Nessman - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:20 pm:

Going to Top Golf. Usually have to work a precinct so a bit different. I’m sure i’ll be feeling odd tomorrow.

  44. - Augie - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:21 pm:

Gonna take my daughter on a self guided tour of UIC in the AM. Then head home and help my Rep. take signs down in the Starved Rock area. Then home to watch results with a cold one. No watch party this time around.

  45. - Fishingvest - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:30 pm:

I will be a pollwatcher again, however I will not stay in the poll all day. I will stop in throughout the day to pick vote totals at a couple of locations. I’ll miss the banter between the judges.

  46. - OneMan - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:30 pm:

The Aurora Election Commission no longer exists so I will not be spending election day there. I was in Canada 4 years ago which gave me an interesting perspective on election night.
This time going to be in the basement ready to deal with things that might come up at work.

  47. - Anon221 - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:32 pm:

Vote early, take family member to doctor appointments the rest of the day, then maybe a large pizza in front of the TV.

Cheryl44- Have you gotten to the New Philadelphia show yet? It’s a really great one.

  48. - Rabble - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:34 pm:

Voted early walk-in. Plan not to watch any results until Wed. morning and then go into exile the next 4 years whatever the results may be.

  49. - illini - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:35 pm:

This is the first time and the first election in 26 years that I have not been involved in any campaigns as a Precinct Committeeperson . I finally “retired” from that responsibility, but I do miss it. A few health issues and the virus have not helped matters.

I did vote early and have been able to maintain a 50 year personal record of having never missed voting in any election.

But to the question - I have several bottles of good wine that I expect to “enjoy” as I follow the craziness as it develops.

  50. - Suburban Mom - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:40 pm:

Voted weeks ago. I work for a small social media site, so I’ll be on duty in the evening cleaning up after people trying to set the internet on fire by acting like jerks in text and memes. Also hanging around my work slack watching the returns with everyone else who’s on duty that night, which is most of us, because we anticipate a high volume of jerkery.

  51. - train111 - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:48 pm:

    Working a normal day.
The amount of boarded up windows in downtown Chicago is pretty unsettling though.

  52. - bogey golfer - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:49 pm:

Voted 2 weeks ago. Clean up yard, try to enroll for Supplemental Insurance. Spend the evening with Carol Marin (on the screen) one last time.

  53. - Just a Citizen - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:49 pm:

Normal day; I have already voted.

  54. - Wensicia - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 12:50 pm:

I’ve already voted, so I’ll do some early shopping and pick up some carry-out for lunch. I’m not planning on watching election news tomorrow evening. I’ll wait until Wednesday for latest results.

  55. - Bourbon Street - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 1:07 pm:

I voted early so I’ll be spending the day hiking or bike riding (I’m retired).

What’s different this year is that I won’t watch the news, but I’m keeping my computer by my side (while I watch a Netflix program that will keep my mind away from the craziness) so that I can periodically check what’s going on. I already have a bottle of Grey Goose chilling in the freezer for election night, so I am all set.

  56. - Candy Dogood - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 1:31 pm:

I am voting in person on election day for the first time since 2002.

  57. - Arock - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 1:46 pm:

Working as an election judge for 2nd time. N95 mask with cloth mask and top of the line face shield.

  58. - Flapdoodle - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 2:03 pm:

Voted early. Will pick up new reading glasses Tuesday morning, the better to stare at my laptop’s screen as results come in that night. As usual, will join a small group of trusted friends and fellow politics geeks to watch returns. Food, beer, and whiskey will definitely be involved, perhaps also some champagne.

  59. - Amalia - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 2:11 pm:

Garden and Gun. Oh, I mean the magazine. (Although…..) This year I need way more distractions and that is just one of the magazines in my old and new stash to while away the time waiting for any final tallies. different from many years of door to door pleadings.

  60. - Anonymouse - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 2:34 pm:

A bottle of champagne if things go well, and a bottle of Malort if they don’t.

  61. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 2:57 pm:

Poll watching for the local Dems all day, then dinner, a bottle of Dragon’s Milk, and an edible. (One bright spot in 2020 is that weed became legal just when we needed it.)

  62. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 2:59 pm:

==I live seconds over the south border of Chicago, so an ear up for the SJW Antifa rioters on the scanner, an eye on the tube later, and keeping an equalizer handy. ==

Someone’s been hitting the weed early today.

  63. - Rich Miller - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 3:19 pm:

    ===been hitting the weed===

Facebook is a far more powerful and harmful drug than cannabis.

  64. - TinyDancer(FKASue) - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 3:24 pm:

Having a late caloric splurge dinner (probably Lou Malnati’s or fried chicken) in front of the TV/election coverage.

And drinking……….to either celebrate or mourn.

  65. - Skeptic - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 3:38 pm:

Normally look forward to voting in person, this year voted by drop off ballot. We’re going to make an effort to do something fun (and socially distanced) and avoid doom scrolling.

  66. - Teddy Salad - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 3:38 pm:

Spending the day with my fingers crossed, worried about my fellow countrymen.

  67. - zatoichi - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 3:48 pm:

Voted a month ago. Gotta buncha episodes of Barn Wood Builders and Maine Cabin Masters saved up. May occassionaly pop into the results channels to see which pundit is going over the top with analysis.

  68. - Rich Miller - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 3:52 pm:

    ===Maine Cabin Masters===

Love that show. And they’re all Grateful Dead fans. So cool.

  69. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 4:15 pm:

=== * What are your election day plans and how are they different from previous years?===

Playing 9 holes of golf with Tom Cross.

This year will be different, Cross is inviting me.

    :)

Not much different, might cook instead of takeout

  70. - Scott - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 4:28 pm:

My wife and I voted early. We both work for a state higher ed institution, so we’re off work along with the kids. I plan on sitting down and watching Coco with the family. Regardless of how it all shakes out by the end of the night (even if the “night” is 3 months long), it’s good to remember what’s important.

  71. - Nameless - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 4:37 pm:

I voted early, II had requested and received a mail in ballot but I was disturbed by Trump’s comments about mail in voting. So I surrendered my mail ballot to vote in person early, same as the primary.

  72. - capitol view - Monday, Nov 2, 20 @ 8:13 pm:

already voted - so will probably feed the ducks in Washington Park and not even look for election results before 10 pm
