Election day oddities and ends

* Sigh…
This afternoon at a polling place in Wheaton, Sean Casten doubled down on his total disdain for anyone who disagrees with him.
In a conversation with voters, Casten states, “If I win by less than ten, that says that 45% of the district is racist homophobes.” Listen to the audio here.
Ives campaign spokeswoman, Kathleen Murphy: “Sean Casten doesn’t care to understand your disagreements with him. He just thinks you are a low-life if you don’t think like he does.
“This isn’t how we come back together. It isn’t who the Sixth District is. But it is who Sean Casten is. And we are confident that voters are rejecting his toxic, divisive candidacy as we speak.”
* Imagine being so committed to opposing face coverings that you pay for election-day robocalls…
[Hat tip: This guy]
* BND…
In Bond County, voters are considering a referendum about whether downstate Illinois should kick Chicago out of Illinois to form its own, 51st state.
The referendum, which is non-binding, is appearing on the ballot due to the grassroots efforts of local citizens who collected about 600 signatures on a petition.
* I’ve been getting press releases from this PR firm for months, but this is the first time I thought about posting one of them…
Hi - Cities across America are boarding up and bracing for civil unrest and/or celebrations tonight. People are expected to spill out into the streets regardless of the outcome of the Presidential election. A popular celebration tactic of years past (most notably for the Philadelphia Eagles when they won the Super Bowl in 2018) is for people to climb street poles.
To deter people from doing so and ensure their safety, ImLive, an adult company, is offering to deploy 220 gallons of lube to New York City and Los Angeles. The lube can be used to grease up dry street poles, thus making it nearly impossible for people to scale them.
Check out a SFW image here - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/esqgc8onar2v6le/AABgyE0cOngOiobFGxyIMfiha?dl=0
I’ve also included a quote from ImLive’s VP of Business Adrian Stoneman –
“We wanted to extend a helping hand and ensure people’s safety while they took to the streets tonight and want to make sure no one is climbing street poles and inevitably getting hurt. To thwart any attempts at scaling these erect structures, we would love to deploy our vats of lube to New York City and Los Angeles so that they can lube their dry poles. We have (4) 55 gallon drums of lube read to go. We hope these cities take us up on our generous offer,” said Adrian Stoneman, Vice President of Business, ImLive.
To be clear, we are offering (4) 55 gallon barrels = 220 gallons of lube in total.
As usual, fly-over country is excluded from the largesse.
* Sigh…
* Musical interlude…

I’ll take the over.

Sean, hope you rented, not bought, in D.C.
- Dotnonymous - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:02 pm:
They said, “Deploy our vats of lube”…heh heh.
- Bruce( no not him) - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:08 pm:
I’m this many years old when I learned you could get lube in 55 gallon barrels.
BTW how do you get on the mailing list for a live sex site, Rich? /S
- Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:09 pm:
It’s as if Sean has no idea his racist, homophobic constituents elected a Republican Congressman for 45 of the past 47 years.
- Narc - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:11 pm:
Um, I don’t understand the Sean Casten remark. I mean, he’s white and straight. So, huh?
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:16 pm:
The thing is about Casten, that district now identifies more with him than Ives.
That doesn’t mean his remarks are correct, but Ives speaks in racist thoughts, has approved racist commercials in her career, and supporting Ives is a values judgement, so… while Casten’s remarks are wholly unhelpful and divisive, it’s tough to see how voting for one who’s thinking is racist in thought and construction as Ives’ thinking has been…
…you can’t be a lil racist.
The country needs a real healing and an embracing of truth after this election, and the bigoted views can’t be accepted as they have been these past 4 years as normal in political and policy narratives.
- Soccermom - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:16 pm:
Okay, now I’m wondering who on earth is buying lube in 55 gallon drums. I think my parties are probably more boring than I had realized.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:17 pm:
=== It’s as if Sean has no idea his racist, homophobic constituents elected a Republican Congressman for 45 of the past 47 years===
Casten won. It was a change from the past 45 years.
There’s that you’re ignoring.
- hisgirlfriday - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:26 pm:
the fair tax is going to lose because of sharpie mishaps, isn’t it?
- Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:26 pm:
Did he win by insulting his constituents in a +2 Republican district?
Odd strategy to move to bashing your voters instead of Trump.
- Ducky LaMoore - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:26 pm:
On Casten, you can barely hear him, the audio is very poor. Are we sure that is what he is saying? Are we sure that is actually him? And if it is, what is the entire context of the conversation, is he being facetious or making some kind of other point? That whole audio and the story around it is completely puzzling.
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:30 pm:
Illinois seems so anticlimactic right now because of the presidential and US senate elections. There’s so much anticipation for those two. Votes and turnout data are coming in and many are trying to get a clue of what it means.
- Dotnonymous - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:32 pm:
They said,”Lube their poles”…I’m too high for any more…WHEEE!
Good luck to all of us.
- OneMan - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:40 pm:
We need a voice that sounds exactly like the guy who feels like masks are an infringement of freedom.
We got a guy for that…
- Fav Human - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:48 pm:
220 gallons of lube
One might think that this would be better if it were handed out to taxpayers…..
- Montrose - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 2:50 pm:
If only they offered the lube to Chicago, then someone could run with the headline “Lube Loving Lori Lightfoot”
- Crash - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:04 pm:
I agree with Ducky. I listened to it several times and I have no idea if that’s Casten and if that’s what he is saying.
One funny note though is Ives complaining that people are mean. She lives with no sense of self awarenss or irony.
- 47th Ward - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:05 pm:
What do you think is the street value of 55 gallons of lube?
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:06 pm:
=== street value===
Depends on the street(?)
- drama mama - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:06 pm:
I think we should start asking what does Jeanne Ives do with herself after this election? What crazy shenanigans will she pull to bring her many admirers joy and those who despise her comic relief?
- Chatham Resident - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:07 pm:
As I mentioned in one of the earlier election threads, when I went past a Village of Chatham polling place this morning at 9:30 (one that’s actually in Ball Township), despite Chatham being part of LaHood’s 18th; in the array of campaign yard signs in front of the church there was one for Dirksen-Londrigan, and maybe another for Davis. Sorry, Chatham is not in the 13th this year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was at least one Chatham voter somewhere here in town that asked a poll judge, “Where’s the Rodney and Betsy race? I can’t find it on my ballot. Help.”

==I think we should start asking what does Jeanne Ives do with herself after this election?==
Hopefully starts laying the groundwork for Ives/Oberweis ‘22.
- Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:26 pm:
Sean missed a golden opportunity to bash bipartisanship and accuse gun owners of having small genitalia.
- Morty - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:31 pm:
:“Sean Casten doesn’t care to understand your disagreements with him. He just thinks you are a low-life if you don’t think like he does.‘
In fairness, everyone associated with Ives is a low-life.
- walker - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 3:33 pm:
Audio is poor. Hard to tell who it is and what’s being said. Probably from an assigned bird dog, recording with a phone hidden in his pocket.

These two candidates seem to embody why huge swaths of folks truly feel disenfranchised entirely.
- Lord of the Fries - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 4:04 pm:
Casten is such a jerk.
- Hamlet's Ghost - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 4:45 pm:
Kathleen Murphy? It this the same person?

I’m thinking Jim prefers Oberweis/Ives. Just sayin’.

Speaking of petitions. I have started receiving mail for our muni elections in Berwyn. I was like could they not wait a week so their materials may actually be read by people instead of getting lost in the campaign lit. I mean I know the filing window is in December of this year, but good golly.

==These two candidates seem to embody why huge swaths of folks truly feel disenfranchised entirely.==
Not just them. Tell that to anyone in central Illinois having to endure ad nauseum back-and-forth TV ads accusing both Davis and Londrigan as crooks. Unfortunate that this wasn’t the year for a third party candidate to launch a serious run in the 13th for a refreshing alternative to the mudslinging.
- Bruce( no not him) - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 5:06 pm:
“=== street value===

Amazon has 55 gallon drum for $1969.69 + $250.00 shipping
Probably get a discount for buying multiple to coat lite poles.
- Louis G Atsaves - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 5:37 pm:
That voice sure sounds like the same one coming out of Casten’s mouth in his TV commercials.
- JudgeDavidDavis - Tuesday, Nov 3, 20 @ 5:55 pm:
Cumberland County, IL also had the Advisory question on Chicago separating from Illinois.
