Bernie Schoenburg & Doug Finke leaving the SJ-R. Even before I lived in the Spfld area I read the SJ-R for coverage of Illinois government. Does anyone see a way forward for this newspaper?

The voters just voted down the Fair Tax. As a result, the Democrats should hit everyone with a big income tax increase right now. ASAP. The messaging will be clear: we had to increase taxes on everyone after voters struck down the Fair Tax, which would have enabled the government to only increase taxes on the wealthy.
There won’t be any meaningful cuts in spending. We know this. Things are pretty much bare bones now. We need a big income tax increase and we need it ASAP.
Only tax downstate though, they’re the ones who voted it down.

I read in the BND where Devore lost again. His winning percentage keeps dropping. Had is standard response of it doesn’t mean anything, only applies to this school. Maybe he should head to PA, fit right in with all the “winning”.

@PrairieState Sense, it’s a traveling statue, it was never meant to be permanent, and the contract for having it in Springfield ran out, so it’s going to its next home. I’m glad it’s gone–cable knit sweater guy was just awful looking.
Alternative universe: Congressman Rodney Davis flying back to DC to reach across the isle and acknowledge President-elect Joe Biden won the election. Lincoln tipping his hat in support.
Just curious where do the people incarcerated or enrolled at the tax eating prisons and universities reside for the most part when they aren’t tax eating downstate?
$112 million is being awarded to 31 downstate transit providers as part of the state’s Rebuild Illinois capital program. Hey, I thought we were out of money in Illinois.
Although the games in December with the Texans and Jaguars (and maybe Lions at home) are winnable, is it just me or does anyone else see it likely that the Bears go winless the rest of the season?
“Although the games in December with the Texans and Jaguars (and maybe Lions at home) are winnable”
I would disagree with the Texans. Awful schedule to start the season (Chiefs, Ravens, and Steelers). They lost Sunday since they are worst in the league against the run (Browns top 5 and Chubb was back) and 50 MPH winds aren’t friendly to pass in. The Bears can’t run. I’ll take the better QB who still remembers the team that passed on him as the 1st QB in the 2017 draft.

Only two counties had 50% of more of the voters voting for the CA - Champaign & Cook and Champaign just barely crossed the line.

Along with all of the collar counties I think, but stick with that.
Why not do it ward by ward and township by township and precinct by precinct while you are at it.

Being a regional party, and the tax eaters that are downstate, makes sense.

If the ILGOP can find a way to blame Madigan for the Bears offensive woes they may get out of the super minority quicker than expected.
Last Bull Moose - Watching Devore work the refs provides a better opportunity for a first down than Foles. It would be more entertaining too.

Speaking of Washington, IL–hard to believe that exactly 7 years ago today was the F4 tornado outbreak which devastated much of that city.
