* Keep it local and polite. But maybe we should just talk about baseball and music…

Brings back memories. Some not so good, but I did look forward to Dick Clark, on American Bandstand, revealing the weeks top hits.

  2. - Anon - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 6:01 am:

I heard yesterday from an insider I trust that the state has been doing a very poor job in regards to following its own laws in regards to public employees on the job.

Someone should look into the number of complaints the state has received from places like quincy or other public employees vs the number of investigations of these complaints.

It seems like the state investigating the state was something this administration didn’t want during covid.

  3. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 7:44 am:

“I heard yesterday from an insider”

I’ve been hearing from numerous “sources” for months how the election was stolen.

    See how that works.

  4. - RNUG - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 7:50 am:

Lost 2 Sangamon County political figures yesterday: Rosemary Long & Tony Leone. Both had significant local impact. Expect Rich will cover that later today.

  5. - James the Intolerant - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 7:53 am:

Listening to a lot of John Prine lately and hoping for a big year for the Sox.

  6. - Todd - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 7:56 am:

I hear in a couple of weeks pitchers and catchers report for the Cubs to begin another loosing season

  7. - DuPage Saint - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 7:59 am:

About only baseball and song connection I can think of is Wild Thing. And maybe a few records tossed onto the field from Disco Demolition Night

  8. - Responsa - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 8:04 am:

I am glad the Sox decided to sign and pay Adam Engel what he is worth (no arbitration). He is a real asset to the team. He is a pitcher’s friend with his speed and by saving so many hard hit balls from going into the stands.

  9. - lake county democrat - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 8:13 am:

Wish the Sox had signed Cruz - if they’re “going for it” this year, they should have been able to top what Twins signed him for. (Of course if they sign Ozuna all is forgiven!)

  10. - Bruce( no not him) - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 8:20 am:

I’m all in for baseball starting. Though, not convinced it will start on time.

  11. - Big Mike - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 8:23 am:

Favorite song: Wasted on the Way by CSN!

  12. - Cheryl44 - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 8:44 am:

I’m still not happy about where the Obama Center is going. Whatever happened to forever open, free and clear?

  13. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:07 am:

Part of the venerable Aragon Ballroom collapsed due to heavy snow, in the alley next to the el, where we used to wait all day for those general admission concerts. Who remembers going to those concerts?

  14. - BCOSEC - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:08 am:

Fred McGriff Hut 493 home runs in his MLB career.

Can anyone name a less famous player who hit a lot of HR?

I bought a lot of his rookie cards early on thinking he’d get to 500. Wonder how much of a difference for those if he had gotten to 500?

  15. - Southsider - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:11 am:

Todd Ricketts retained as RNC money man…Cubs fans rejoice. SMH

  16. - View from the Cheap Seats - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:19 am:

Let’s go back to the post. Nolan Ryan threw more no-hitters as he got older towards what most would be ending his career. Also, after basically mowing down players with vicious heat and pitching almost complete games all the time. An unreal arm.

  17. - Not the Dude - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:21 am:

August 14, 1971 Bob Gibson throws a no hitter and the #1 song on Billboard that year is Joy to the World by Three Dog Night. RIP Bob.

  18. - AnonymousFool - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:24 am:

-Fred McGriff Hut 493 home runs in his MLB career.

Can anyone name a less famous player who hit a lot of HR?-

    Frank Thomas, the Big Hurt.

  19. - Simply Sayin' - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:30 am:

Nolan Ryan was one of my favorites, both as a player and as a person…got a lot of his baseball cards in my card stash.

  20. - Leave a Light On George - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:30 am:

“Can anyone name a less famous player who hit a lot of HR?-”

    Dave “Ding Dong” Kingman.

  21. - Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:37 am:

Can anyone name a less famous player who hit a lot of HR?-

Harmon Killebrew, and I’ll be fanning myself while typing this… Adam Dunn….

  22. - Amalia - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:40 am:

Baseball and music. Sox, loving it. Cubs, TRicketts family (Trump lovers, mostly). Na Na Hey Hey (kiss him) Goodbye.

  23. - Northsider - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:45 am:

    DuPage Saint @ 7:59:

    John Fogarty’s Centerfield.

  24. - Rabid - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:46 am:

Well, the first baseball game, jimmy crack corn just came out

  25. - Dog Lover - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 9:50 am:

We’ve been listening to old and new Willie Nelson CD’s. Ready for baseball season and NASCAR season. Have a good day.

  26. - Father Ted - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 10:10 am:

I looked at our 10-day forecast (western suburbs) and after the temperature drops this afternoon, we won’t get above 20 degrees until February 15. Oof

  27. - Stones - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 10:13 am:

I second the Adam Dunn nomination. Would also like to mention Gorman Thomas for honorable mention.

  28. - Loop Lady - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 10:15 am:

Getting my first dose of vaccine in 2 weeks…
I am praying to attend oodles of live music events in the summer…

  29. - Loop Lady - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 10:17 am:

Ducky: I have always thought he had a great name:
    Harmon Killebrew….

  30. - thisjustinagain - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 10:41 am:

Baseball?? Music?? C’mon man! “Put me in coach, I’m ready to play today” (John Fogerty, “Center Field.”
And for my Sox fans: “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, Good Bye.” (Steam).
And with February weather blowing in, as the late John Facenda might have said it “The icy cold winds of February howled through an empty and lifeless Soldier Field, where no Bears played…”

  31. - obiter dictum - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 11:08 am:

i always thought “sweet swinging” Billy Williams 426 home runs, while in the Hall of Fame, was underappreciated. Steve Goodman “A dying cubs fan last request” reminds me of my broken heart in ‘69

  32. - Friendly Bob Adams - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 11:34 am:

Which brings up the (somewhat) famous riddle: Who is the only player to get six hits off Nolan Ryan in one game? Robin Ventura…..

  33. - Dotnonymous - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 11:39 am:

Harmon Killebrew’s grandfather was alleged to have been the strongest man in the Union Army.

  34. - Long time fan - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 12:43 pm:

Can anyone name a less famous player who hit a lot of HR?-

    Roy Sievers, Rocky Calavito

  35. - May soon be required - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 12:45 pm:

Darrell Evans and maybe Carlos Delgado

  36. - Father Ted - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 1:19 pm:

Many years ago, I heard a great interview with former White Sox manager Jeff Torborg on the Jim Rome Show (of all places). Torborg was Nolan Ryan’s catcher for a few years and he talked about how Ryan always had a dominant fastball, but he became especially dangerous once he developed a good change up. He said something to the effect of “it wasn’t fair anymore to the hitter.”

  37. - Lurker - Thursday, Feb 4, 21 @ 1:58 pm:

    My though on not famous:
    Albert Pujols
