Not surprisingly, Peoria has already announced the cancellation of their St. Patrick’s Day parade and party for the second year in a row due to COVID.
When will Langfelder get the cajones and announce upfront that Springfield’s “Halloween in March” will be cancelled again this year? Unless I’ve missed it I haven’t heard anything on the event being cancelled yet:
Interesting court case recently filed in Kane County, 21 CH 55.
Several article 3 and 4 fire and police pension funds, and active members of the funds, are suing the governor, director of IFA, director of Department of Insurance and boards of the new consolidated investment funds.
This appears to be a constitutional challenge to the pension consolidation legislation.
Hope to hear and read more about this case in the future.
I am unaware that parade attendance and bar patronage is exclusively limited to residents of Springfield.
I can understand the angst when people that don’t live in Springfield complain about development plans for downtown, but there sort of is this deadly pandemic thing going on and there sort of are more contagious strains gearing up.
Thanks but no thanks. I was one of the people that joined the exodus out of the city in recent decades. I moved out of Springfield less than five years ago.
I saw a school bus yesterday with one kid on it pull up to the CPS grammar school by home, first day back in a year and he rides the bus by himself. So sad, CTU and Lori you both own that.
I have loved the music of Van Morrison since—well for a very long time. Of all the major superstars of that genre from the past 50 years Van is the only one that I never managed to hear in live concert. I regret that tremendously. Thanks for the clip. It was a great way to start the day.
Rich, your column in the Sunday Sun Times shows the peril of redistricting that is ahead. This should also be a very difficult topic within the borders of Chicago. Hispanic population not reflected in representation. this is also true on tv.
Beautiful song by a great writer and performer. I recently came across YouTube footage of Van performing “Caravan” with The Band. It’s fantastic, with Morrison highkicking his way off the stage as The Band, great musicians too, finishes the song.

Van is an amazing writer and great musician, but we shouldn’t forget the fact that he’s also a re-open truther who released lockdown protest songs, is suing Northern Ireland for COVID restrictions, and is widely known to be an unrepentant a-hole in day-to-day life.
Good concert though. And the one person I know who had a 1:1 interaction with him said he was nice…that day.
Awesome song - but won’t play in concert anymore. Rather dismissive when requested by audience. Disappointing if you were in attendance at Chicago Theater pre-COVID
===Rather dismissive when requested by audience===
That’s an improvement. Back in the day he was banned from Germany because he caused a riot by arriving very late and singing one song with his back to the audience.

Fantastic song, Rich. My friend recorded it two years ago, and I truly think his version is better than the original. Thanks for posting.

Chatham Resident, why not move to Springfield where you can vote in city elections, since you you obviously hold strong opinions about our Mayor?

i have always been partial to Mr. Morrison’s early work. Perhaps because my daughter’s name is Gloria and i am in love with a brown eyed girl.

I play it on my 1980s kenwood with sansui sp-x9000 speakers and the addition of a modern subwoofer. Fun to see the water in the toilets make waves.
