Iris Martinez, Scott Kennedy to co-chair new DPI transition committee

Friday, Mar 12, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I told subscribers about this on Monday…

Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Robin Kelly today announced she has formed a Transition Committee to gather input from Democratic leaders on the vision for the future of the Democratic Party of Illinois.

“Over the last several weeks, I have seen the energy and excitement of so many Democratic leaders and Democrats across Illinois who share in my vision of a more inclusive and engaged Democratic Party of Illinois,” Kelly said. “With input from a tremendous group of Democratic leaders around the state, we will begin the work of inspiring and expanding our party.”

The DPI Transition Committee will be chaired by Democratic State Central Committee Member Iris Martinez and political consultant Scott Kennedy, and co-chaired by Robert Blackwell Jr., Commissioner Michael Cabonargi, Sen. Cristina Castro, Rocco Claps, Michael Cudzik, Ald. Michelle Harris, Hanah Jubeh, Nancy Shepherdson, Patrick Watson, and Abby Witt. The Transition Committee includes other DSCC members and Democratic leaders with unique experiences to shape the vision of DPI. A full list of Transition Committee members is attached.

All recommendations and input from the Transition Committee will be brought to the DSCC before final decisions are made. Kelly also encouraged Democratic leaders with specific ideas to share to email contact@ildems.com.

I worked with Hanah Jubeh on more stories the last few weeks than I have in quite a while. Besides her work for Kelly, she also worked for 23rd Ward Democratic Committeeperson Silvana Tabares during the Madigan replacement saga.

* Anyway, this transition committee is kinda on the huge side…

Anybody besides Sheila Simon live south of Springfield?

This is a great sign–Everybody in! for real.

That’s a lotta folks to get things going in one direction?

The thing that Welch did well was get everyone to close ranks and move forward.

This seems like so much appeasing.

    We’ll see.

Hahaha - talk about too many cooks in the kitchen. How are they going to come to an agreement on anything?

Nice to see the Bradley Scout mention Mrs. Lydia Moss Bradley in the review of ladies connected to Bradley University.
Hard to come up with a better role model for young women than Mrs. Bradley.

    This is an odd committee

If you haven’t had anyone participating for 20+ years then inviting people in is going to be the first step. The work isn’t done in the big committee.

Except it looks pretty light on the labor representation. I know Stott and Cudzik are on there but still.

I take it it they will all be remote meetings. Even if you social distance at 3 feet would probably have to meet at United Center or maybe the Assembly Hall or a State Farm center or whatever they call it now.

There’s no problem a 57-person committee cannot solve.

  11. - SaulGoodman - Friday, Mar 12, 21 @ 1:16 pm:

Have any of y’all ever participated or even observed a transition committee? You make them big and broad. And then you have subcommittees do the actual work.

    This is perfectly normal.

Lets hope the chefs consult with the line cooks to know what ingredients actually go into a perfect dish. The majority on that list haven’t been hand-on with anything campaign related in a long time.

Looks like they couldn’t fit the full Committee name on the release - The Transition Committee Opening the Door For Republicans to Win Again.

I can’t wait to see how these people go about fundraising, especially since most of these individuals haven’t contributed a dime to the party in recent years - even those on the State Central Committee.

===since most of these individuals haven’t contributed a dime to the party in recent years===
And actually some of the more impressive people on the list actually make money off of campaigns either through salaries or their businesses. But I actually don’t have a problem with them being part of the process.

    Yes.

===especially since most of these individuals haven’t contributed a dime to the party in recent years ===

I don’t specifically recall being asked to contribute to the DPI or being invited to a fund raiser, but I have also not been actively engaged in rent seeking by urging the legislature to pass laws that allow me to extract billions of dollars by charging more than the market price for electricity.

I don’t think you’re making the point you think you’re making.

Not sure what you are talking about, but the point I am actually making is simple - everyone has great ideas about what the party should do, but nobody has contributed the money to do any of those things. In order to do things it costs money. Many of the state central committee could barely show up to the few meetings that were had let alone contribute any real money to party operations. Running an operation like DPI is not free and it will be interesting to see who will step up to the plate in fundraising so that they can, at a minimum, run the day to day operations of the party.

    Face to palm…

Sorry this doesn’t instill mounds of confidence.
