Question of the day

Monday, Mar 15, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Today is Monday, so it’s Senate COVID-19 Testing Day. I have an errand to run after my test, but I won’t be gone too terribly long.

Let’s do a wellness check. How are you and yours?

Great now that it looks like social distancing requirements are moving to 3’.

  2. - Streamwood Retiree - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 11:38 am:

@BlueDog - or totally abandoned. This weekend I encountered latge numbers of unmasked people including fast food workers with masks across the mouth only and customers walking by totally unmasked within a foot of me. Uncomfortably close even if covid did not exist. It seems that when Texas ordered Austin to not order masks, the floodgates opened.
BTW, I encountered more maskless inside Chicago than in the ‘burbs. Suburbs had more mouth only masked. Not just customers but also employees.

    I hope I get a mild case.

  3. - West Sider - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 11:40 am:

Me and mine are well, thank you. We got our first injection over the weekend- so feeling optimistic.

  4. - Amalia - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 11:41 am:

anxious, waiting, and not happy about snow coming.

  5. - don the legend - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 11:41 am:

Wife and I got the one shot J & J vaccine yesterday. Feeling crappy today but small price to pay.

  6. - WillRez - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 11:50 am:

Very well, thank you. Entire family has received at least one shot. Additionally, I work in a public building with several hundred county and state employees, where there has been much exposure to the virus and many lost days of work because of positive tests and quarantining. Am very happy to learn there is a set plan to vaccinate all in the building who wish to have the vaccine.

  7. - dlapine - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 11:50 am:

Doing well, both the Wife and I have received the 2nd shot (Pfizer) here in Champaign County.

  8. - High Socks - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 11:53 am:

Half vaxed and ready to rock

  9. - DEE - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:01 pm:

I received the J & J vaccine in Des Plaines Saturday. It was very well run by a courteous and informed group from the Guard, police and others. The young, diverse and helpful Guard members really gave me an optimistic feeling for the future generation in our state. Like maybe they will find answers to many of the problems we’ve left to them.

  10. - Give Me A Break - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:03 pm:

Waiting to get the J&J shot. Over the weekend here in SPI they did a large round of J&J vaccine but we didn’t feel like we were their target population so we didn’t try and go.

Anyone know of another round of the J&J vaccine being done around SPI?

  11. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:13 pm:

I just went to take the trash to the alley. It was just starting to snow when I went out and by the time I was coming back from the alley it was practically a whiteout. I can see the lights that are on across the street.

That’s the most excitement I’ve had in a while.

  12. - obiter dictum - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:16 pm:

much better tomorrow when this snow has melted predicted 2 - 4 inches today. it is snowing swideways and hard now. High of 43 tomorrow and 48 on wednesday Beware the Ides of March indeed 2nd pfizer shot received on saturday

  13. - Paddy Cullerton - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:24 pm:

DoING Fine in Florida, had the second shot a month ago , still wear a mask like most folks do except for those sought out for tv spots on CNN

  14. - Chicago Cynic - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:26 pm:

2020 good. 2021 pretty good. And 2019 meh.

  15. - ktkat1 - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:26 pm:

Both parents and teacher kid vaccinated as of today. DH should be eligible by the end of the month and I’m patiently waiting. Neighbor offered me a number to push mine up but I would rather leave it for those who are truly eligible and need it before me.

Things are looking up (including snowfall totals unfortunately).

  16. - striketoo - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:38 pm:

Great my covid19 freedom day was last Friday. Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty I am free at last.

  17. - Keyrock - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:40 pm:

Starting slowly to rejoin the world, now that my spouse and I have been vaccinated.

  18. - Blue Dog - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:45 pm:

Mrs Blue and I are fine. We often take for granted the greatest healthcare and healthcare delivery system in the world. For this we are thankful.

  19. - Pot calling kettle - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:50 pm:

A bit relieved. Spouse and I are both vaxed and waiting for the two-weeks to pass…then…we’ll still wear masks and limit our exposure; we’ll just be a bit less worried after passing those folks who still don’t wear masks or don’t wear them over their noses (which is pretty much the same thing).

  20. - Roadiepig - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 12:55 pm:

My wife and I are heading to get our J & J vaccines in a few minutes. Glad to be qualified to receive it, now that a good chunk of Illinois citizens have decided this whole Covid thing is over and are back to being mask-less (or wearing their face coverings below their noses) in stores and restaurants locally. You would think half a million plus dead would make an impression, but I think social media and partisan “news” sites has really made many people “educated fools”

  21. - wildcat12 - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 1:00 pm:

Feeling grateful for a lot of things. My parents got their first doses today. I got mine last week and am waiting patiently for six weeks to go out for a nice dinner. It’s not snowing in Central Illinois.

  23. - Nick Name - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 1:20 pm:

The wife, kids, and I are hanging in there.

  24. - SSL - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 1:30 pm:

One shot done, one to go. Played first round of 2021 golf on Saturday. It felt great.

  25. - RNUG - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 1:51 pm:

Both of us are normal. Looking forward to the 2nd shot for both of us in 2 weeks.

Most of our close friends are either 65+ or slightly younger essential workers, with either one or both shots. We had occasionally got together over the past year; starting to do it a bit more often when we can find restaurants following the guidelines and distancing.

Still avoiding crowds. Haven’t been in a bar for over a year, except for a neighborhood one that is more of a restaurant than anything else … and owned by a good friend following all the guidelines.

About 2 weeks after we get our second shot, we plan to go back to traveling more. Expect we will still follow local guidelines and wear masks in a crowd for some time yet.

  26. - JoanP - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 1:55 pm:

I got my second Moderna shot Friday afternoon, and slept pretty much all day Saturday. Not letting my guard down, though.

  27. - Because I said so.... - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 1:59 pm:

I’m not adjusting to the committee schedule. Monday used to be get ready for the week ahead and Friday was a good wrap up and finish up tasks day. The M-F committees leave very little time to catch up.

Besides that, I’m doing good but looking forward to Easter break.

  28. - cermak_rd - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 2:00 pm:

Feeling good. Have my appt for vaccine on Wednesday, St. Pat’s. My Gran was Irish (well sort of, County Fermanagh so maybe British but definitely Republican, taught me some great songs, “A Nation Once Again”, “The Minstrel Boy”, etc.) So maybe gran was watching out for me that I was able to get an appt.

  29. - yinn - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 2:05 pm:

Only one in the household is fully vaccinated. The rest of us are too young and unessential. We don’t have to go out much and the vaccinated one still takes the same strict precautions, so we’re ok to wait. DeKalb County, with 105,000 population, passed the 15,000 mark for administered doses early last week. I am ecstatic that my essential friends, and friends and family in their 70s and 80s, are finished or nearly finished with their shots.

  30. - Sal - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 2:12 pm:

Getting my 1st shot this coming Sunday. The rest of my family doesn’t qualify for the shot yet, too young and no health issues.

  31. - Skeptic - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 2:20 pm:

We got an appointment. Arrows are pointing up.

  32. - very old soil - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 2:29 pm:

Methinks I took the snow fence down a little early.

  33. - bear 3 - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 2:29 pm:

Waiting to get the J&J shot. Wish they would get it to my medical group/doctors and not only “Mass Sights”. All is good.

  34. - Manchester - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 2:38 pm:

Doing well here. Had my first shot on the 3rd with the second scheduled next week at the state fairgrounds. Feeling much more optimistic. I still plan to mask up and keep my distance but won’t worry so much. I’m actually considering a trip to Florida in May.

  35. - Dub - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 4:43 pm:

My vaccine will kick in Sunday, but I’m nervous about rejoining the world. Have I become a weird recluse? Do I remember how to act in public?

  36. - RNUG - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 5:22 pm:

== My vaccine will kick in Sunday, but I’m nervous about rejoining the world. Have I become a weird recluse? Do I remember how to act in public? ==

More importantly, will you remember how to drive? If the motorists in Sprngfield are any example, a lot of people have forgotten. Lots of red light blowing, inattentive driving, even driving into buildings on a regular, almost daily, basis.

Drive defensively. When the light changes green, pause and look both ways first before proceeding. Stay safe.

  37. - Cool Papa Bell - Monday, Mar 15, 21 @ 5:51 pm:

This was not a good day.

Today I heard about someone I like very much being a long hauler.

To the bright side of life - I’ve checked every day for the past week and each one of those days the Sangamon County Department of Public Health has had COVID vaccine slots open. THAT is the GOOD news today.
