I got my first shot yesterday (Pfizer) and haven’t slept that well since I don’t know when. My arm still hurts but just around the shot site, not my whole arm.
My sibs are in town, and as they have not been to Springfield since they were in the Girl Scouts, we decided to make a short trip downstate.
Drove down Tuesday (in the rain and snow) and stayed overnight. We visited the Dana-Thomas House, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, and the Illinois State Museum. And, being who we are, spent a lot of time and money at Prairie Archives. It was great fun.
Heavy frost on the ground seen this morning about 7am in Riverdale (south burb of Chicago). Yes, it’s April 22nd; I double-checked. Sun out brightly when I looked, and at 9:17 it appears the frost is gone. Dandelion report later.

I thought the Hawks were toast last night, losing 4-1 in the 3rd period to a team who owns them this year. I flipped the TV channel back to the game and it was tied. The Hawks won in OT.
So, I got this book by Carl Smith, “Chicago’s Great Fire: The Destruction and Resurrection of an Iconic American City,” from the library, renewed it ten times before I got around too opening it up, and liked it so much I bought a copy.
Dog Lover, prepare yourself for side effects on the second Moderna dose if you never actually contracted COVID. Without exception among my family and co-workers, the second shot has caused a reaction. It’s a sign the vaccine is working, and it doesn’t last too long… especially compared with actual COVID (speaking from experience).
I discovered them years ago when I used to go regularly to Springfield for professional meetings. I love used bookstores; the first thing I do when I visit a new town is to find the local one.

Today is Earth day and hope we can make the changes needed so our children will have clean air, water, and food. Earth day was first established on April 22, 1970 and the following July the EPA was created. It also led to the passage of the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act.

Beautiful if chilly sunny day yesterday. Suddenly, what the heck is the coming down? Snow? Teeny snowhail balls? that was bizarre. Better today.

JoanP, thanks for supporting Prairie Archives. John Paul and his son Robb are great people. What a treasure that place is.

I’ve had both Moderna shots now. The morning after #2, I had sweats and felt feverish, but was fine by afternoon. Not bad at all.

Neither one of us had any noticable side effects from the 2nd Moderna shot other than a slightly sore arm.
