Praying, begging and pleading for an Arsenal win in Europa semi final.

  2. - Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 8:29 am:

Am I the only one laughing at the picture of the Bidens and the Carters? Wide angle lenses, man…. Are the Carters hobbits, or are the Bidens nine feet tall?

  3. - Henry - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 8:59 am:

Someone get Tony La Russia a rule book.

  4. - Andersonville Right Winger - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 9:00 am:

I’m with you, oifredleg. Gotta score early.

  5. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 9:03 am:

Joc Pederson is reason #875 why I don’t like bat flipping. But if players must, it’s always a good idea to make sure the ball actually leaves the park.

My thought on this is…did no one in the dugout think to question him?

==Someone get Tony La Russa a rule book.==

I’m no LaRussa fan, but I’ll say this is his defense. The Dodgers took advantage of this rule last night in the 10th inning against the Cubs by having a runner other than the pitcher start the inning on 2nd base. When they did that, even the umpires were confused and had to be directed to the applicable section of the rule book. It’s easy to understand why AL managers like LaRussa aren’t familiar with the rule. There are only a handful of interleague games in National League parks where there’s a possibility that it’s going to be applicable. Otherwise, there’s no chance of the pitcher running because of the DH. The rest of the White Sox organization is as culpable as LaRussa. No one on the coaching staff said anything and no one from the front office called down to the dugout to say anything. And most of all, let’s all remember, it’s one game in a 162 game season.

  8. - "A Horse is a Horse" - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 9:31 am:

La Russa has made a few mistakes but overall I think he has been good for the Sox. LaRussa throughout his career has always been a good shephard of starting pitchers. I don’t think it is a coincidence that Cease and Rodon are pitching so well.
The Sox starting rotation is the best in baseball right now and LaRussa is a big part in their improvement.

oifredleg and Andersonville Right Winger, I see we got some Gooners in the house. I’m friends with some Gooners at the Globe Pub, so I’ll cheer along with you. By the way, as a Villa supporter, thanks for selling Emi Martinez to us! :)

  10. - Dog Lover - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 9:51 am:

Get this off my chest: I’m not an AFSCME member but my health insurance and pension are from the same source. I don’t worry that my pension will be cut, but if there is no money to pay it, it’s the same thing. And I’m eligible for very little, if any, social security. My pension will certainly not be extravagant and I’ve put a lot of my own money into it, contrary to what many believe.

I’m tired of politicians posturing rather than problem solving. Pointing fingers rather than shaking hands. They need to grow up and get serious about this topic and many more.

  11. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 10:04 am:

La Russs was always a bad hire.

The Sox have gone from subtle mistakes by La Russa to now inexcusable mistakes that fans know better, and fans should never manage a ball club.

  12. - Steve Polite - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 10:11 am:

    Dog Lover,

The Illinois Supreme Court has held that the Pension Clause guarantees that pensions are to be paid when they become
due and that the obligation to pay benefits exists irrespective of the pension system’s funding ratio. In re Pension Reform Litigation, 2015 IL 118585, ¶89, 32 N.E.3d at 2829.

  13. - Amalia - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 10:25 am:

oifredleg and Andersonville Right Winger, I’m right there with ya. so many injuries, unai emery on the other end of the touch line, we need a win today for Arsenal. Come on Walker, as a supporter of Fulham you can cheer with us.

  14. - Amalia - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 10:35 am:

Yesterday I was chided for the story on Foxx & saying it was the top of the WGN news, commenter saying must be a slow news day if that happened. Today, the story is on the front page of the Chicago Tribune, all across, above the fold, as the Com Ed story, Lightfoot changes, Liz Cheney follies and more rage. Mismanagement supreme in Foxx land.

  15. - Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 10:42 am:

“I don’t think it is a coincidence that Cease and Rodon are pitching so well.”

Yeah the Ethan Katz hire was outstanding. What does that have to do with Tony?

  16. - oifredleg - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 10:48 am:

Jabes-Emi is gold. I watched him sit behind Cech and Leno too long. The 2019 FA Cup sealed his departure for a starting XI spot.

  17. - "A Horse is a Horse" - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 10:56 am:

Ducky, look at LaRussa’s former teams rotations. Most were overachievers including the Sox teams of the 80s. I do agree the new pitching coach is an improvement.

  18. - Dog Lover - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 11:12 am:

Thanks, Steve Polite. I saved that citation.

  19. - Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 11:52 am:

Horse, he doesn’t know the rules. He plays Jake Lamb who has a sub-.500 OPS instead of Mercedes. He tries to steal second base in a tie game with a runner (that should have been Abreu not Hendricks) on third. The game has passed him by. Time has passed him by. They should have just hired Ozzie.

  20. - Nearly Normal - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 12:00 pm:

Cubs sweep Dodgers. That’s all I’m saying and sure felt good to say it. Oh, no game scheduled today so the record stands for another day.

  21. - SouthSide Markie - Thursday, May 6, 21 @ 1:05 pm:

Nearly Normal, I definitely enjoyed the sweep. But, being a Cubs fan, I had to find something that snatched defeat from the jaw of victory. Which came in the form of seeing Mark Prior walking to the mound as the Dodgers pitching coach and being reminded of what could have been.

== I don’t worry that my pension will be cut, but if there is no money to pay it, it’s the same thing. ==

    -Dog Lover-

    a) The State has to pay 2 things every month: bonds and pensions. Doesn’t matter if the pension funds are empty, the State still has to pay … presumably from GRF if no other funds are available.

    b) State pension funds were in roughly the same shape as in the late 60’s when the Pension Clause was enacted. The State hasn’t missed a actual payment of a pension to a retiree in the past 50 some years.

    c) The State has shorted contributions to the pension funds for over 100 years; every retiree has always been paid what was owed … and this was before the Pension Protection Clause and multiple court cases where the ISC has consistently ruled since 1975 the State HAS to pay.

You’re probably more likely to get hit by that rocket coming back to earth than you are to miss a pension check.

Will Brad Tusk be the new power behind the throne in New York? Here’s a new NY Times profile:

Had to go for a drive. Classic vinyl played the theme for Arsenal today, Dazed & Confused. Bad watching Coquelin win. Ugh.
