Bailey attends Statehouse rally against masks for children
Tuesday, May 18, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller * Not much of a crowd…
I really don’t get those people. * But let’s zoom in… Won’t get the vax, won’t wear a mask. Yeah, that’s a great coalition to build when running for governor. /s

“YOU HAVE NO RIGHT OT TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY (double underline) LIFE”?
So, pro-choice then, I’m assuming? Good to know.
- The W.A. - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:27 pm:
Has Darren ever been right about anything?
- Roadrager - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:28 pm:
Rich, you can remove the words “masks for” from your headline, and it still holds up.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:29 pm:
=== Won’t get the vax, won’t wear a mask. Yeah, that’s a great coalition to build when running for governor. /s===
LOL
What a real bridge builder Bailey is.
He’s the angry, anti-science, pro-conspiracy theory candidate. The in-law uncle candidate.
- hisgirlfriday - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:30 pm:
Anti-vax/anti-mask voters are definitely not a great coalition to build around to actually try to win the state as a whole, but to win the GOP nomination? Ehhh I could see it working out for Bailey.
- Jibba - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:32 pm:
I’ve lost almost all of my human concern for the health of these folks, even if I still feel for their kids and the folks who cannot get vaxxed. On the other hand, I will try to keep their unvaxxed and unmasked selves away from me and mine.
- Demoralized - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:33 pm:
They might as well hold up a sign saying “We Support Global Pandemics”
- Rich Hill - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:37 pm:
“We like killing our neighbors!”
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:37 pm:
Rally? That’s barely a poorly attended family reunion.

Rep MTG was just on House floor maskless with three other members, among them Mary Miller.

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover but with this photo I can safely make an exception.

== that’s a great coalition to build when running for governor. /s ==
I don’t know…maybe that shouldn’t be snark. It might just get him a solid plurality in a GOP primary.
- Massive Slog - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:43 pm:
Rally? That’s Easter Bloc tinder.
- ChrisB - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:49 pm:
I wonder what Bon Jovi has to say about this.
- The Doc - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:49 pm:
Grateful to Rich for the continuous stream of “Darren Bailey, lib crusher” content.
Beyond parody.
- Pundent - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:52 pm:
Mock Darren Bailey all you want but he’s still the Republican front runner for Governor. That’s going to be quite the ticket for the ILGOP.
- Give Me A Break - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:53 pm:
I’ve seen bigger groups trying to get on the elevators on 2M on a session day.
- Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:53 pm:
-Mock Darren Bailey all you want but he’s still the Republican front runner for Governor.-
All that means is that the mocking will be extended.
- Flying Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:54 pm:
“he’s still the Republican front runner for Governor.”
From your mouth to God’s ears.

Thanks, don’t mind if I do.
- Glengarry - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 3:57 pm:
That’s one motley crew. There may be a mullet in there somewhere.
- Massive Slog - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:01 pm:
You had me at Mock Darren Bailey
- Rudy’s teeth - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:01 pm:
Getting a Children of the Corn vibe from these pictures. Bailey’s campaign should include,”We Don’t Need No Science.”
- wildcat12 - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:04 pm:
I understand the sentiment of hoping Bailey gets the GOP nomination. He’s so ridiculous it would seem like a death sentence for their party. But after what happened with Trump….I’d rather not take any chances.
- Ducky LaMoore - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:05 pm:
Even if I believed all this garbage, I would still have better things to do on a Tuesday afternoon.
- Anne - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:11 pm:
“Mock Darren Bailey all you want but he’s still the Republican front runner for Governor. That’s going to be quite the ticket for the ILGOP.”
and would get crushed against JB…will be laughed out of the GOP nom when Rodney announces.
- walker - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:14 pm:
Top of the ticket can determine more election outcomes than any likely map drawing in Illinois.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:16 pm:
=== when Rodney announces===
“We’ll see”.
Until Davis officially announces, it’s not real.
The three person field now, tough not to see Bailey as the front-runner… “today”… in this moment.
Rabine, who will be so fun to mock, will be so deep on the Trumpkin / conspiracy theory side of the ledger, he too will find no room heading towards a middle.
Schimpf? Welp…
- Norseman - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:16 pm:
“YOU HAVE NO RIGHT OT TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY (double underline) LIFE”
Yet, these same people love to tell others how they should live theirs.
- Pundent - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:21 pm:
=will be laughed out of the GOP nom when Rodney announces.=
Surely you don’t mean the Rodney Davis who supports Liz Cheney? From where I sit the nomination is Darren’s to lose. It’s all about tapping into the “energy” of the party.
- Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:29 pm:
==Anti-vax/anti-mask voters are definitely not a great coalition to build around to actually try to win the state as a whole, but to win the GOP nomination? Ehhh I could see it working out for Bailey. ==
A voting block that is shrinking due to age & disease is not a very promising political base.
- ChuckIL - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:35 pm:
Bailey is an old school candidate. He would have been pro-polio and smallpox back in the day.
- Ryan - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:40 pm:
“Every civilization dies.” A very well-respected archaeologist told me that. I fear we’re seeing the beginning of our’s doing just that…
- west wing - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:42 pm:
Back in the 92 campaign, Paul Tsongas used to call Bill Clinton the “Pander Bear.” I think Bailey is the pander bear on the issue of vaccine revolt and folks who thrive in anti-science conspiracy worlds.

- H-W - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:47 pm:
Libertarian ideologies are filled with hypocrisies. For example, “I do not want to wear a mask at ballparks,” is a literal equivalence of “I want the right to be able to infect others and potential kill or seriously injure others without having my freedoms to do so restricted.
That’s sort of like people currently complaining that the FOID card and Conceal Carry permits are taking to long (I applied two weeks ago just to see how long it would take. I had my card in 5 days).
People wanting quick and easy conceal and carry permits are literally saying when they apply, “I want the right to be able to kill humans if I feel the need to do so” (That is the only reason for having a CC permit).
And yet, many seem to resist processes that require careful consideration of such applicants. They trust that all who apply are not criminals, and that future criminals would never apply.
Then there is the refrain, “Freedom isn’t free.” I guess a good libertarian would say, “Freedom isn’t free, unless it involves me.”
- H-W - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 4:49 pm:
I should say, I applied for my first FOID card, not, a concealed carry permit.

Is it just me who thinks out of control individualism, on both the left and the right, is hurting our country?
- G Falkes - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 5:13 pm:
Tell that to the cancer patient who’s vaxed and still wears a mask. Your rights end where mine begin.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 5:18 pm:
=== individualism, on both the left ===
This isn’t “AdLibs for Whataboutisms”
I don’t think even *you* know what this means.
To the post,
Bailey wants the “Ives voters” and throw in the Covidiots not already “Ives voters” and that might get him 37%(?) in a 3 or 5 way primary?
Bailey will have DeVore carnival barking for him too…
- zatoichi - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 5:19 pm:
No vax, no mask, OK. Then please be no hospital if you get sick with covid. Cause it’s all choice.
- Nobody Sent - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 5:47 pm:
To Ron Burgundy - maybe that is a poorly attended Bailey family reunion?

=== COVID does not have a vaccine but it is an experimental drug. It takes time and testing before a vaccine is approved.===
This is wholly untrue, inaccurate, and false.
===There is zero evidence that masks are effective. They are used to make people feel they are doing their part. So requiring masks on children is ridiculous===
Your opinion is contrary to actual fact.
If this was remotely true, doctors, nurses, all doing operations would never wear masks during operations.
This is Facebook drivel
- From DaZoo - Tuesday, May 18, 21 @ 9:58 pm:
===So, pro-choice then, I’m assuming? Good to know.===
I can just imagine the head spinning if someone asked one of this crew. It started me laugh-coughing.
To the post- My five year old gets it and wears his mask when in public. No arguing. Just the occasional remainder (like any other kid). There’s no mental health or education impairment issues for him.
Maybe it’s the adults that have impairments. If so, maybe Bailey can find resources to help them?
