Durkin tells rally-goers seeking huge Exelon bailout that his caucus stands with them
Friday, May 28, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller * House Republican Leader Jim Durkin earlier this week…
Much of that criminal enterprise involved ComEd. And now ComEd’s parent company Exelon is trying to strong-arm the General Assembly into forking over hundreds of millions of dollars in ratepayer subsidies to keep three nuclear power plants open, even though an independent audit showed it only needs a fraction of that cash mountain. * Today, the labor front group for Exelon hosted a Statehouse rally and Leader Durkin spoke. While saying he wanted a “fair” result for consumers, he also said this to the gathered Exelon workers and other political dignitaries…
This is the 2016 playbook all over again. I don’t think it’ll work this time around, but as I told you Wednesday, firming up Republican support is crucial for Exelon as the session enters its final days. * Related…

here in the shadow of the Byron cooling towers, the union “save the nuke plant” signs are in the same yards that had the Trump signs

Sounds like Durkin desperately wants to be a part of said criminal enterprise
- SportShoz - Friday, May 28, 21 @ 12:29 pm:
Durkin already was involved in that enterprise - they HGOP has never opposed what ComEd/Exelon asked.

Call Exelon’s bluff. It will cost Exelon a huge bundle to dispose of the radioactive cores when they decommission the plants.

I know Durkin likes to talk out of both sides of his mouth but this is really something. Yelling about corruption and “Madigan!” but then basically saying “we should give Exelon what they want” is an amazing bit of hypocrisy even for Durkin.

Jim Durkin: always protecting the little guy…

Durkin certainly has more guts than brains to be pulling on this string.
He knows the part he played in ComEd, and more directly Ameren.

“Call Exelon’s bluff. It will cost Exelon a huge bundle to dispose of the radioactive cores when they decommission the plants.” All nuclear plant license holders are required to fully fund their decommissioning costs into an account that can only be used for that purpose. They closed a plant in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with no apprehension. Exelon won’t be bluffed; empty threats mean nothing to them.

=to keep three nuclear power plants open,=
Three nukes that are in GQP territory. Socialism is fine if it comes with a donation i guess.

I would ask Durkin specifically if he supports $500 million per year for Exelon, or even the $350 million/year reported in Crain’s.
Might get a different answer.

Boy, this will really help Durkin and the House GOP in all those suburban areas they’ve lost, won’t it? /s
