Because… Madigan!
Tuesday, Aug 3, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Background is here if you need it. From Rod Blagojevich’s lawsuit…
During his time as Governor, Plaintiff, a Democrat, spent nearly the entire 6 years he served as Governor, feuding with Michael Madigan, the longtime powerful Democrat Speaker of the House and Chairman of the Illinois State Democratic party. Nearly a year before his arrest, Madigan circulated a memo encouraging House members to discuss impeaching the Governor after the Governor issued an amendatory veto of a sales tax increase and rewrote the bill to give free public transportation to every senior citizen and every disabled person in the state of Illinois.
He really likes commas.

Is there any Chicago ward where a Trump diehard could be elected in a general election?
- Bigtwich - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 11:21 am:
How can I miss you when you won’t go away?
- anon2 - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 11:26 am:
I looked it up. Biden won all 50 wards. The only close one was 41 on the northwest side where Trump won 47.54 percent of the vote. Citywide Biden took 82 percent. Rod probably wouldn’t want to run in ward 21 on the far south side where Biden won 95.84 percent of the vote.

The 19th, possibly. Mount Greenwood has lots of city workers including police officers and firefighters.

I’ve got this scapegoat and he’s f-ing golden

If Blago needs a job, why not be the spokesman for the Vrdolyak Law Group commercials. A perfect match.
A convicted ex-governor fronting for a twice-convicted ex-lawyer…Eddie Vrdolyak.

Rich fell for Rod’s trap. He wrote about this foolhardy endeavor. Publicity makes Rod’s hair happy. He wanted CapFax to write about him..

Who gives a crap. He reminds me of the sharp-dressing street preacher with the portable PA who stood at State & Randolph yapping away….but nobody was listening to him. Keep it that way.

41, 45, 19.

Who’s going to be the first to email Rod?

Madigan was arrested? I must have missed that.
- Keyrock - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 11:49 am:
Even Madigan did some things right.
- ArchPundit - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 11:53 am:
And Madigan was right to suggest impeaching Blagojevich then–Blagojevich was clearly abusing his power.
Oh, then he extorted a children’s hospital and tried to sell a US Senate seat.
- Pundent - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 12:15 pm:
It will be interesting to see how the court deals with this. Blagojevich is filing his suit pro se because he lost his license to practice law. Usually the courts will show latitude towards pro se plaintiffs because they aren’t well versed in the law. But Blagojevich did at one time hold a license to practice. And the nonsense he’s spewing in his complaint would be quickly dismissed if advanced by an actual attorney.
- Leslie K - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 12:29 pm:
Pundent @12:15pm — It does create an interesting conundrum, doesn’t it? I was reading it and thinking “well, this sounds like many pro se suits, with little if any attempt at legal arguments.” And then I remembered he was an attorney. Yikes.
But I do appreciate his concern for my freedom to vote against him. /s
- Sir Reel - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 12:31 pm:
If Rod gets his law license back he could join Fast Eddie, and soon to be reinstated Rudy to form the firm of Dewey, Cheatem & How.
- Dotnonymous - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 1:00 pm:
Madigan made Blagojevich grind all those years away…now all Rod has to do is learn to live with it…perhaps he needs another lesson?
- Former Merit Comp - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 1:19 pm:
Of course Blago is still devoted to Trump, he’s his mini-me

who says theater is not open in Chicago. this act is like a touring comedy show.
- Huh? - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 1:23 pm:
“he wants his law license back”
Am I correct inremembering that blago didn’t show up at his disbarment hearing?
- Friendly Bob Adams - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 1:44 pm:
Blagojevich doesn’t stand a chance with this lawsuit. But he’s back in the headlines, so overall it’s an up day.
- Skeptic - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 1:57 pm:
Anyone else notice how the first sentence uses both “Democrat” and “Democratic” as adjectives? Must be written by committee.

=== … plans to call Mike Madigan as witness … .===
Apparently Kirkland and Ellis has, informally, put Blago in touch with Richard Porter and Ken Starr … .

DPI singing to the tune of the Too Fat Polka, “We don’t want him, you can have him, he’s too crazy for us.”
- walker - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 2:57 pm:
Correlation is not causation.
Yes, many House members considered the potential removal of Blago from office for malfeasance and corruption, long before the Fed tapes came out. No, it was not about any sales tax bill or rides for seniors. The Feds got it right.

Maybe Rich just wanted an opportunity to use the “Because Madigan” tagline again.

= Blagojevich is filing his suit pro se because he lost his license to practice law. =
??
Are you suggesting that losing your law license means you can’t hire a lawyer? That makes no sense.
- Pundent - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 4:39 pm:
=Are you suggesting that losing your law license means you can’t hire a lawyer?=
Of course he could hire a lawyer. But presumably they’d expect to be paid. And having a complaint with some merit to it would be an added bonus.
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 5:32 pm:
I would say Rod should draft his own complaint and not use the pro se forms, but given his relationship with technology that might be a stretch. At least every second he spends on this lawsuit is a second he spends not in trouble.
- JoanP - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 5:34 pm:
= Of course he could hire a lawyer. But presumably they’d expect to be paid. And having a complaint with some merit to it would be an added bonus. =
Then why did you say he is “filing his suit pro se because he lost his license”? Presumably he has other sources of income, and lord knows there are plenty of lawyers who file complaints with no merit. (Looking at you, Tom Devore)
- Pundent - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 5:46 pm:
Rod sees this as an opportunistic shot at redemption and needs to feed his own narcissistic inner self. Since this is a civil suit there’s no real downside in his incompetent representation and baseless allegations. Whether he was licensed or not this was Rod’s suit to file. The fact that he now has to do so as a pro she plaintiff, who did even show up at his disbarment hearing, makes it even more comical. Unless of course you think he’s being serious here.
- Anon E Moose - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 7:55 pm:
And the case was assigned to Durkin. Can’t make this up.

So, what is Blago doing to buy groceries and pay the rent? Does Mrs B have a job? Last I remember, he couldn’t get by on Gov’s salary and perks. (Follow the money)
