Today’s quotable

* Effingham Daily News…
Not everyone who spoke at the event shared Bailey’s tempered response to the idea of election fraud.
“Make no mistake, Donald J. Trump was overwhelmingly elected in this last election cycle,” said State Rep. Chris Miller, R-Oakland, at Bailey’s event.
Joe Biden won the election, earning 51.3% of the popular vote to Trump’s 46.9% and earning 306 electoral college votes to Trump’s 232, according to the Federal Election Commission. There has been no credible evidence in the months since the election of widespread fraud or irregularities that would cast doubt on those results.
Both Bailey and Miller signed a letter to Congressional Rep. Mary Miller calling on her to object to certifying the election results on Jan. 6. State Rep. Blaine Wilhour, R-Beecher City, another speaker at Wednesday’s event, also signed that letter.
Miller also addressed the state’s relationship to energy production, pointing out the state’s large coal reserves. Illinois has the second largest coal reserves in the nation, behind only Montana, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
“We do not have a climate crisis! I don’t care how many times you hear that,” said Miller. “We have an energy crisis and we have a crisis of common sense.”
No relation.
- Wow - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 8:56 am:
A permanent minority party in Illinois.
- Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:00 am:
Here I thought I shoulda been worried about Ives and Oberweis.
“The party is going down. I can’t stop it anymore.”
- Huh? - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:03 am:
“we have a crisis of common sense.”
Truer words have never been spoken. Such a self own.
- JS Mill - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:03 am:
=A permanent minority party in Illinois.=
Agree. It seems like a lot of them like it that way. They are able to maintain their fantasy-world corner of the state and raise lots of campaign cash from the rubes out there.
Because the overwhelming majority of the Illinois population has: 1) never heard of them 2) never heard of their towns 3) will never be impacted by their craziness they are free to run around and spew their lunacy to willingly delusional audience. They want the comfort of a time when they did not have to compete with folks that were not the same as them for resources or money so they gladly embrace lies which they think reinforces that fantasy.
- Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:04 am:
Who is left in the GOP to counter these people? Does Durkin have any desire to grow his caucus or just be content to let the loons take over and define the GOP in Illinois?
- Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:09 am:
“Bailey’s tempered response to the idea of election fraud”
When Bailey is the rational one…whew.
Flavored popcorn is delicious for watching the ILGOP gubernatorial primary. Grabbing a lot.
- Bemused - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:12 am:
To me the sad part in all this is that up to 74 million of our fellow citizens in this country are willing to buy into all this.
- Manchester - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:14 am:
“Who is left in the GOP to counter these people? Does Durkin have any desire to grow his caucus or just be content to let the loons take over and define the GOP in Illinois??
It’s too late. The loons have already taken over.
- PublicServant - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:17 am:
@Bemused - That is indeed sad, but scary too.
- SWIL_Voter - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:20 am:
It’s so frustrating how we’re all lectured and scolded to be patient listeners and be compassionate and empathetic, to bend our worldview to accommodate “the other side of the aisle,” in the name of patriotism or bipartisanship or whatever, when this is the content of their beliefs and agenda. It’s never about finding solutions to problems or the proper role of government in that process. It’s stuff like “is reality real?” “Is a deadly virus good actually?” “Do you really want your grandma to live?”
- Norseman - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:25 am:
This is the GOP now. Fantasies, conspiracies and vilification is all you get from that party. Durkin, like so many others, has lost or given up on controlling the loons of the party.
- Excitable Boy - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:27 am:
- We do not have a climate crisis! -
Let’s get the government out of the crop insurance business and see if Miller feels the same way.
- Montrose - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:27 am:
Rich, some days I think you want to make it clear you are in no way related to the Millers. /s
- City Zen - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:27 am:
“overwhelmingly elected”
So not only was there enough fraud to overturn the election, but so much that it would have been a landslide victory? Bravado and delusion sure make one potent cocktail.
- Roman - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:29 am:
This is not your father’s, or Jim Edgar’s, or Jim Thompson’s, or George Ryan’s, or even Bruce Rauner’s Illinois GOP.
Permanent minority party indeed.
- Skeptic - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:31 am:
“Rich, some days I think you want to make it clear you are in no way related to the Millers.” Maybe he can cast himself as being from an eastern European and call himself Ric Hmiller.

=“Make no mistake, Donald J. Trump was overwhelmingly elected in this last election cycle,” said State Rep. Chris Miller, R-Oakland, at Bailey’s event.=
This is the rhetoric that causes people to do stupid and in some instances violent things. It should be condemned by members of both parties.

Chris and Mary are Miller Lites: Less Taste and More Baffling
- Club J - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:55 am:
It’s a sad day when we have the likes of Bailey and Miller (no relation) going around not only spreading the lies about the past election. That in itself is enough to get them defeated on Election Day. Then you have them being deniers of the Coronavirus that has Bailey’s family member in the hospital as killed 1000’s of people. Now it is making a return in many areas filling hospitals and yet Bailey is still not pushing to get people vaccinated. What is wrong with these people? Is it strictly political or are they just not smart enough to see what’s happening before them?
- Henry Francis - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:57 am:
I am reminded of the old line about Newt Gringrich, that he is a dumb person’s idea of a smart person. Do Miller’s (no relation) followers actually view her as a smart person? Or do they not care about smarts anymore, and just want a politician who isn’t afraid to say certain things and will fight, fight, fight against the boogie men (libs).
- JS Mill - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 9:58 am:
=Let’s get the government out of the crop insurance business and see if Miller feels the same way.=
You win the internet today. That is good stuff and I would love to hear the Miller’s (no relation to Rich) thoughts on getting the government out of the crop bailout/welfare business. My guess is that they would not answer the questions after stumbling around for a minute or two, their minds fully blown.
Really good catch.
- Numbers matter - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 10:00 am:
How long until Team Pritzker starts running ads under the wire supporting Bailey? “Bailey too conservative”. Ha ha.
- Pundent - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 10:01 am:
=Is it strictly political or are they just not smart enough to see what’s happening before them?=
It’s craven. They see an opportunity to personally benefit off of others. They don’t necessarily have the courage of their convictions because when they are inevitably challenged they will blame those that were foolish enough to listen to them.
- Glengarry - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 10:20 am:
How does it not surprising me Chris and Mary are made for one another.
- The Ford Lawyer - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 10:31 am:
Yikes. If the current map goes into effect, I will be in Mary Miller’s district. I will vote for anyone, literally anyone who runs against her. I’ve been talking to my dog, but so far he doesn’t seem interested. Even he knows Trump lost. Some of our neighbors don’t.
- Rich Miller - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 10:39 am:

There is no new congressional map.

Kudos to the Effingham Daily News for including this paragraph.

Went to the Effingham County Fair parade Sunday. County Republican booth as jammin’ There was one guy sitting in the County Democratic booth, alone. Big Bailey presence, booths and in parade. Millers, too. In the parade, she was on foot; I heard her mouth something about “Close the border.” Felt embarrassed for her; seemed like she was saying what she had been told to say. Seriously, I think Republicans must outnumber Democrats here 20-1.
- Jocko - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 11:14 am:
“Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen”
Is this what Mary means by crisis of common sense?
- Rudy’s teeth - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 11:19 am:
The Millers ( not Rich), Rep. Wilhour, and Darren Bailey were certainly never members of a Science Olympiad team. The nonsense they spew…the anti-science rhetoric is a clear picture of deficits in processing information.
Rubes…all of them.
- anon2 - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 11:38 am:
JB has to be pulling for Bailey to win the primary. Winning 20 to 1 in Effingham won’t mean much in the statewide general election when Bailey won’t attract much support in the Chicago area.

As a constituent of Republicans Tom Bennett and Jason Barickman, I’m actually a little envious of those citizens represented by “Eastern Bloc” republicans. At least they know where they are on the issues.
I have no idea where Bennett and Barickman stand on the issues of voter fraud, masks, or virtually anything. I know from Instagram that Tom Bennett is awesome at going to community functions, and various businesses in his district, but I really don’t know much of anything about his political stances other than a myriad of “no” votes in the GA, most of which match that of the “Eastern Bloc”.

==I hearby call the Death Panel To order. Chair Mary Miller.==
Sarah Palin predicted these death panels back around 2012 but said it was Obamacare that would create them. She just had the wrong source.

- Commissar Gritty - Tuesday, Aug 3, 21 @ 2:57 pm:
As tasteless, quick to lie, and dangerous as Chris Miller is, Mary is worse. Her facebook page is nothing but race-baiting, fear mongering, and complete fabrications. If this is uncivil please take it down, but I would first check out her facebook page so you can see I am in no way exaggerating.

If democrats would start inspiring people to vote for them instead of just being a better option they would get more done that needs to be done.
National gop has been dragging People to the right because Democrats left a vacuum after Reagan took them to the woodshed in 1980
