* Cook County press release

Aug. 20, 2021 – The Cook County Department of Public Health today announced that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask indoors, beginning on Monday, Aug. 23. The order (below) requires that all people above age two who can medically tolerate a mask to wear one in multi-unit residential buildings and public places, such as restaurants, movie theaters, retail establishments, fitness clubs, and on public transportation.

“We are in a dangerous period, with the Delta variant surging, during which we must return to previous remediation measures,” said Dr. Rachel Rubin, Co-Lead and Senior Medical Officer of Cook County Department of Public Health. “We have no choice but to mandate that people wear masks indoors to help contain this spread of the virus.”

* There was a vaccine/testing requirement to attend the recent Cook County Democratic Party fundraiser, but the local and state masking requirements don’t differentiate…

The Cook County Democratic Party event tonight was a lot of fun! Having so many friends in one room was awesome! So great to be with everyone!

More pics are here. Not exactly a sea of compliance.

Also, Gov. Pritzker was there. I’m so old I remember a time in August when he skipped the state county party chairs’ brunch because it was indoors.

…Adding… Maskless indoors with unvaccinated kids…

…Adding… The above pic is from the 2018 campaign. But still. This is a self-own.

Everyone is done. My family was one of two families out of thirty wearing masks in church yesterday. Nobody cares anymore.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:40 am:

Very little is ever good on social media.

Social media hurts far-far more than it helps, example 5,217

    To the rank hypocrisy?

At some point, for the anti-vax and pro-unlife crowd that want this to be “over”, they are going to wear down the cautious fad more than the pro-science folks keeping the pro-health… because social media lunacy and appeasing is apparently more important than setting examples.

  3. - Breakthrough - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:43 am:

Meanwhile I know 3 families hit by breakthrough cases in the last month. Careful where you circulate. Indoors with a big group? No thank you.

Yeah, that’s why I skipped the Stones concert last night.

Very bi-partisan when it comes to “Do what I say not what I do”

  6. - DuPage Saint - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:48 am:

Well soon we will have basketball and hockey both indoors will be interesting to see how masks work there. Bears may be outside but they will probably have plenty of room to socially distance the way they are going

  7. - Smalls - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:49 am:

Definitely not a good look for Dems.

  8. - Amalia - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:54 am:

ugh hypocrisy. and even worse, sickness and death.

  9. - Independent - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:55 am:

I am fully vaxxed and contracted what must be Delta. Last week I had fever/chills/fatigue, and I hadn’t had flu shot yet so I assumed it was that. But Covid test was positive. Now I’m a little short of wind and head is slightly foggy. Hopefully Regeneron helps.

Even if vaccinated be cautious. And for crying out loud get your shots. Even if you don’t care about yourself show a little concern for others. Don’t forget flu shots either. That’s my first stop after a negative test.

  10. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:55 am:

==Bears may be outside but they will probably have plenty of room to socially distance the way they are going==

And the possibility of fans double masking too. The regular facemasks then paper sacks with eye cutouts over their heads.

  11. - hisgirlfriday - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 10:56 am:

    This is disappointing and embarrassing.

We need our electeds setting a good example.

If these folks think you should not have to wear masks indoors if you show proof of vaccination, then make that the rule.

  12. - Joe Bidenopolous - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:01 am:

=Yeah, that’s why I skipped the Stones concert last night.=

We went to an indoor show in Chicago on Thursday. During the opener - which was why we were there fortunately - it was fairly sparse and mask compliance was outstanding. By the time the headliner came on, it was packed and mask compliance was out the window. We left.

“By the time the headliner came on, it was packed and mask compliance was out the window.”

Far too many patrons seem to think, “You don’t have to wear my mask when you’re eating or drinking, and I’m holding a beer so I’m drinking, therefore I don’t have to wear my mask.”

I’m outdoor shows only for the foreseeable.

Our esteemed State Treasurer is in one of the pictures, with a wide smile and no mask. Maybe he just believes he is so tall that he isn’t a danger to anyone

“Bears may be outside but they….”

Attended the Wisconsin/ND game in Soldier Field on Saturday. Concourses were a sea of humanity. I didn’t understand it until I went to buy food. Of the eight registers at a food station, only two were being manned. As a result, lines were snaking through the concourses….that people were trying to navigate to get to their seats.

Total stupidity. 1) The hypocrisy of it all. 2) Just writing your opponents’ attack ads for them. 3) Have you forgotten a recent expensive recall election? Might not have had enough signatures to get on the ballot but for Newsom’s French Laundry dinner. 4) On a positive note, there’s one candidate for judge I won’t have to waste time reading the bar association evaluations to know he’s not qualified.

  24. - illinifan - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:27 am:

Time to practice what is preached. It was good seeing the Tony awards and the audience was fully masked.

  25. - Nicky - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:32 am:

This happening all over the country with elected elite
And is why the little people don’t take covid seriously

  26. - Anchors Away - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:35 am:

Campaigns post old photos on social media accounts all the time. Is the standard now that every image used in social media, tv ads and mail have to be from the pandemic or labeled as before the pandemic? Give me a break.

  27. - Donnie Elgin - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:36 am:

    “the audience was fully masked”

Attendees at the Tony Awards knew 100% for sure that the event would have high visibility in the press. They either masked out of genuine concern - or they were “shamed” into it. These pols in Illinois foolishly did not so it shows how they really think.

  28. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:39 am:

    ===Give me a break.===

    It’s a silly self-own that doesn’t need to exist.

That tweet, these tweets do more damage than self-promoting good

Someone is asleep at the switch.

  29. - Cheryl44 - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:40 am:

Yeah, maybe all pictures need to be tagged as pre or post Covid. It’s a new world out there.

  30. - Noah Braynerz - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:41 am:

    1) if you are hosting an event, you need to have clear signage that masks are required, and you need to have designated people that are not part of the fundraising team who are responsible for enforcing the rules.

    2) If you are running for office, and you have photos that you wanna use but those photos are pre-COVID indoor no masks, don’t use the photos.

===Campaigns post old photos on social media accounts all the time===

New world, new day. Get over it.

  33. - fs - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:48 am:

In the Facebook comments, the campaign is trying to say that “masks were taking off to take pictures” ….

…amazing how everyone in the background of every picture is apparently taking a separate picture at the exact same time, seeing as they don’t have masks on. And most of the people maskless in the pictures (looking at you Treasurer, and Representative Delia Ramirez, among others), aren’t holding a mask that they apparently just took off.

Just admit you were caught with your pants, or masks down.

It’s an absolutely brutal, elitist look at a time when we really didn’t need it.

  34. - ddp76 - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:51 am:

From what I see in many public places, compliance is spotty at best. I see corporate owned stores with better compliance, but most independent operations ignore it. I think you’ll see less and less compliance to moving forward.

  35. - Rich Miller - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:53 am:

===Campaigns post old photos on social media accounts all the time===

The theme that he is up against is that he’s somehow an autocratic king. This plays into that. Not the end of the world, but really dumb.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 11:59 am:

These type of self owns harden the negative others already have, reinforce the negative, and to some it’s “proof” of “hypocrisy”

Changing campaign outcomes this won’t do, but it keeps the angry side… angry.

JB keeping his lying streak intact.

  38. - ZC - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 12:21 pm:

Been thinking about this more recently, maybe there’s a photo of her in there, but: I am so not a fan of Mayor Lori Lightfoot. But her public messaging on this kind of thing, has been one of her strengths. I cannot recall (anyone feel free to remind me) of her getting caught up in this kind of snafu recently.

At some point we’re gonna have to say, at “all- vaccinated events” people are allowed to take off their masks indoors. That’s kind of the point, too, to incentivize social behavior. We’re going to have to sort of learn to live with breakthrough COVID; it’s not going anywhere (thanks, anti-vaxxers). I can’t wear this thing on my face for the rest of my life, indoors. But, I wholeheartedly agree that time is not yet, not at least until we can get a vaccine for the kids rolled out (and that’s not that far in the future now).

  39. - Grateful Gail - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 12:22 pm:

Just came from a vacation in southern Maine. Masks compliance in every store, and on United Air flights….no arguments. Back in southern Illinois…….few, if any, wearing masks….

  42. - Betty - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 12:36 pm:

    Sure people get angry
    Why wouldn’t they
It’s mind blowing the amount of hypocrisy that is seen everywhere all the time
And very little people recognize it.
    It’s quite comical.

  43. - fs - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 12:45 pm:

== Back in southern Illinois…….few, if any, wearing masks….==

So, what you’re saying is, Southern Illinois is complying just as much as politicians in Chicago

  44. - Put the fun in unfunded - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 12:51 pm:

ZC “recently”. Her haircut snafu was in 2020. “I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said.

  45. - MisterJayEm - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 1:10 pm:

“And is why the little people don’t take covid seriously”

Remember when these goofs used to howl about “personal responsibility”?

    I miss that.

    – MrJM

  46. - Huh? - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 2:20 pm:

    “personal responsibility”

That went out with the buggy whips.

  47. - G'Kar - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 2:23 pm:

==Indoors with a big group? No thank you.==

Not just indoors. I cancelled my plans to attend an outdoor beer festival in Southern Illinois. Even though it is outside and the booths will probably be widely spaced, the covid level in that part of the state is so high that I don’t want to risk it. Pity, because it was a great festival in the past.

  48. - Beth - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 2:49 pm:

    Anyone else notice
How insulting some of the comments are here

I guess Some just can’t help themselves with the name calling

  49. - Noah Braynerz - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 3:21 pm:

I’m not blaming any of the individual folks pictured.

It is the job of the host of the event to know what the rules are and be sure they are being followed.

If you walk into a room and there are 99 people with no masks on, chances are you are gonna think masks are not required and not put on a mask unless there are signs and individuals telling you that masks are required.

I stopped for gas the other day and ran inside for gum, forgetting to put my mask on, but when I saw the cashier with his mask on it immediately reminded me.

Human nature is human nature, and any system that does not take human nature into account is designed to fail.

What was the signage at The Allegro? Who is the party’s fundraising consultant?

  50. - Birds on the Bat - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 3:41 pm:

Like I said, keeping the angry… angry.

Lol. Not angry at all. Not wrong either.

  51. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 3:43 pm:

    ===Not angry at all.===

    “Sure, Jan”

  52. - Sonny - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 3:50 pm:

It’s not a great look but where was the Northfield GOP’s indignation when Maine Township and the Northwest Side GOP not to mention the dozens of organizations downstate were hosting events?

  53. - Rich Miller - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 4:13 pm:

===Maine Township and the Northwest Side GOP===

Not exactly people in actual power.

  54. - Frank talks - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 4:32 pm:

@Sonny- they aren’t saying they’re wrong for not wearing masks. They’re pointing out Dems love to talk all about masks and make people feel bad with out one, yet here they all are in their glory unmasked.

I noticed pics from Speaker Welch fundraiser last week masks on in almost every pic, as well as crowd shots. Somebody knew the assignment. :)

  55. - Birds on the Bat - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 5:37 pm:

    Sure, Jan

Ok, Karen. You just can’t stand it when other people you don’t agree with are right. You are too a democrat.

  56. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 5:41 pm:

=== You just can’t stand it when other people you don’t agree with are right===

Your anger is noted, and I didn’t know being called a Democrat is an insult, but here you are.

    Reading is fundamental…

    ===It’s a silly self-own that doesn’t need to exist.

That tweet, these tweets do more damage than self-promoting good

Someone is asleep at the switch.===

Being angry isn’t helpful. Deep breaths.

    :)

  57. - Anonymous - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 6:31 pm:

This is the same as the vaunted 47th ward organization - some of whom like Colleen prefer to tweet often and take shots at others. But days later, they posted pictures of a fundraiser with no masks. Glass houses people.

  58. - Birds on the Bat - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 6:56 pm:

I didn’t know being called a Democrat is an insult

If you take it as an insult, that’s on you, and very telling too I might add.

  59. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Sep 27, 21 @ 7:02 pm:

=== If you take it as an insult===

You meant it as a compliment, lol…

If you like the Trump/Raunerite, racist thinking, insurrection loving, conspiracy theory spreading “GOP”…

I’m trying to implode that, because Illinois needs two parties, and supporting that Trump/Raunerite thing is super-minority sad. But, if you like it…

It’s social media self-owns these pictures. They ain’t flipping votes, they fuel anger of the already angry. Not how I’d go about it, but, social media isn’t real life.

If these pictures flip 15+ points against… say… Bailey… that would be a miracle
