The Carlyle school district, where the board chairman’s wife is a top donor to a DeVore anti-mask lawsuit against the district, announced last night that it will follow the state mask guidelines. But the district will not enforce the mask guidelines because school administrators “do not have the authority to exclude students if they refuse to wear a mask.” Honestly, that’s what they declared.

Well….I’m still residing in Apple Hel_.
Brand new MacBook with some kind of software glitch that the Apple “geniuses” can’t seem to figure out.
All Summer long.
And into the Fall.
Have any Republicans come out to say they will be running for Comptroller, Treasurer, Attorney General?
With the likelihood of 3, 4 congressional seats, maybe 1 or 2 congressional seats outside the 3-4 at play, what exactly is the ILGOP trying to do to build a slate to pair with the eventual Guv/LG and Senate nominees?
Is there going to be any building? How much will it matter to attract suburban voters, women, persons of color…
Sure they out-raised the abysmal DPI, embarrassing them because the ILGOP is not any juggernaut but seemingly “better organized” than DPI… but what is happening outside the statehouse caucuses?

I’ve heard some whispers that maybe Demmers would look at Treasurer, but they haven’t been the best sourced rumors I’ve ever heard.
It would certainly be no sign of strength if they couldn’t fill out the ticket. But let’s see. There’s time, and the signature requirements are smaller this year.
It’s a gray, windy, dreary day here in Chicago. I took my car in for scheduled maintenance, and now I’m just going to stay inside with a cup of tea and a good book or two.

If Demmers runs, I wonder how long it will take for the Dems to try to connect him to Rita Crundwell (the former Dixon Comptroller and Treasurer who embezzled over $53 million from the city).
I hope someone runs for SoS with a .05 BAC for DUI as part of their plan. This was recommended in 2009 by the NTSB. So far only Utah implemented this recommendation. It is about a hundred vehicular deaths a year issue which receives little coverage.

Not only that, but also a candidate which will also institute a “Use Your Turn Signal” campaign and pledge for enforcement of turn signal laws. Such fines can actually make a serious dent in our budget deficit as it seems to me like few people actually use them, especially on interstates.

There are finger / thumb sensors for BAC (and other drugs). Use SoS like a bully pulpit (as Edgar did for DUI and “Mandatory” insurance) to make them available and/or mandatory in vehicles. They’re effective enough to scare the lobbying group for the national restaurant association into trying to get them banned (just as they opposed the drop to .08).

Saw a sign on a Massachusetts highway advocating the use of turn signals: “Use yah blinkahs.”
I’m killing off vacation time this week, so today I did new walk around the back of the Chicago History Museum. It’s pretty interesting, though perhaps if you go you should check a weather report first.
Also The Fire exhibit is really well done and indoors.

Turn signals?? What are those? Never mind speed limits have long been suggestions to many people in the South burbs of Chicago, as well as cutting off people in turn lanes to make illegal left turns because reasons. Yesterday it was the illegal ATV and dirt bike roaring up and down Halsted St. in Riverdale; been seeing them on street all summer. Zero enforcement effort.

And in Springfield too. And in Springfield, it seems like “yellow” means “hit the gas.” At least on Veterans.

Saw a guy today make a left turn out of a “go straight” lane, cutting in front of two left turn lanes, and blowing a red light in the process.
