I’m reading Fiona Hill’s memoir and highly recommend. The overriding theme of the book is the need to rebuild our tattered opportunity infrastructure, and that’s exactly what our governor is doing with his planned investments in anti-violence. One of the frustrations I struggle with is the failure of our leaders to correctly and precisely define the most urgent problems we are ostensibly trying to solve. I’m feeling a little more optimistic about it this week.

Kam’s, “flu-like symptoms”, and unofficial seemed to all go hand in hand.
It’s Speech Team (forensics) season in Illinois.
If you ever fear for our future, attend one of these tournaments, especially later in the season. You’ll soon learn why our future is in capable hands.
Got my Pfizer booster yesterday evening and feel wiped out and achey today. Staying home. But a day or so like this is totally worth it to be as protected as possible against COVID. Especially since my work has seen a mini-outbreak of breakthrough cases (none hospitalized, but some feeling quite awful). Get your boosters when you can, all.
I’m getting my Moderna booster later this morning, deliberately timed for a day when I have nothing else scheduled for today or tomorrow - just in case.
Hard freeze last night in Sangamon County. Gardeners finishing up clean up and reading the seed and gardening catalogs that started showing up in September.
Never made it up to Kam’s in my day, but at EIU we had Marty’s 4 o’clock club. Very popular.

Kam’s was OK but it was more of a Greek and jock place IIRC. More memorable was O’Malley’s where every night at midnight they would play “American Pie” and the crowd would react during various parts of the song in a similar fashion to a Rocky Horror theater showing.
Tuesday night is poker night in Champaign Illinois. That is when the Chief of Police and the owners of KAMS and CO Daniels pay their protection money. The bartenders know exactly what day and time the police will show up. We won a keg of beer in 1984 due to lucky poker hands and went to KAMS to drink it and were shocked when they gave half of us diet Pepsi because we looked too young. We are expecting the cops any time now they explained to us. Seven minutes later a cop walks in and around the establishment and leaves. Then the bartender bring two pitchers of beer in one hand and cups in the other and apologized for our inconvience. They send a van with a couple bouncers to Danville to buy kegs so they can skip out on the cities beverage tax. 18 kegs in a van load. I wish I could be 37 years younger.

I know we need either 60-30-1 (or 71-36-1), but wouldn’t it make sense for Illinois to have November Election Days every year? Move all the local and school (and other special district) elections from the goofy April date with turnout at similar percentages as Blagos 2008 approval ratings. And move all that to November (today if we did it this year).
I remember up to the 90s some school referenda and other local/school elections occuring on Election Day in odd-numbered Novembers. Would like to see that return.

==5 year anniversary of a *very* stressful night.==
And the date the world was supposed to end if whatever happened 5 years ago tonight happened.
Got too cold too fast. Had to cover the flower garden from frost, and will be doing it all week.
Related - got the Moderna booster, no side effects to speak of other than injection site tender for a day or so.
Under the irritated category, got a letter from Sangamon Auditorium that dye to covid they did away with the paid valet parking, and are now charging for all parking at events. So I guess I’ll be paying to park to go see Foreigner this Friday.

I’ll defer all questions to Kam’s to Kam’s favorite bouncer, Jason Plummer.
As a former patron of the “old” Kam’s, many a Monday nite I found myself partaking of beverages that were of an adult nature.
Did I feel… “unbalanced” medically on Tuesday? It’s likely.

At least we got to see the Oak Ridge Boys a couple of weeks ago in Branson.
