Lightfoot and Griffin tiptoe around each other
Monday, Dec 6, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller * Good point…
Also weird that Griffin is focusing all of his Chicago crime ire on the governor, but has yet to say one negative thing about the mayor who, um, directly controls the police department. Also, too, Griffin will be funding a gubernatorial candidate who is not named Jesse Sullivan but who will presumably have the same opinion about blaming the governor and not the mayor for Chicago crime.

Griffin is a Rahm donor.
Lightfoot has largely continued the policies of Rahm.
Lightfoot convinced Griffin to give the city $10M during the pandemic. I am guessing they want to
Maintain the detente.

What’d Sullivan do to fall out of the Ken-stakes?
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Dec 6, 21 @ 3:05 pm:
So much of the *style* of Rauner can be found *in* Lightfoot, which probably contributes to why they just can’t embrace each other … because if they do… the magnification of all these close things would be a lot easier to miss.

MLL was a conspicuous “unavailable for comment” to the Journal when given the chance to have the gov’s back.

He has enough money of his own not to be owned by KG

He was himself.

MLL is about MLL and no one else. Doesn’t matter that Griffin said the same thing that Sullivan said about Chicago. She’s banking that no one is paying close enough attention to notice - or more likely, she doesn’t care.

Big lol to that

Sullivan has barely (maybe) been able to establish his own actual identity on geography, military service, money making v. NFP scheme. Heck it is unclear if AC217 Catholics know of the guy. Meanwhile Griffy limps looking for a rent to own and no one is there poof

Does he? His personal financial statements don’t indicate that he can bankroll a campaign (against Pritzker, btw) all by himself, and if he’s got some other angel investors he’s counting on…well, they’re going to need to put on Act 2 pretty soon to compete with JB.
==He was himself.==
Ouch. And: LOL.
But man, who’s Ken actually gonna drop his dollars on? I thought Sullivan seemed like the most likely option.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Dec 6, 21 @ 3:36 pm:
Griffin invests. That’s his thing.
Tough to see $50 million headed for a guy confused how he spent his time in Afghanistan… while going to gyms to talk to bros about politics.
Tough to see.
- 2nd ward - Monday, Dec 6, 21 @ 3:39 pm:
Lightfoot controls the police but not the legislature (makes laws) or the entire judicial system (courts, state’s attorney, jail) so realistically she shouldn’t realistically be getting any blame. I’m no Lightfoot fan but I just don’t think people realize how little she can do or the police alone for that matter.

Not to my knowledge.

Griffin donates money to a few things that would be important for any Mayor like the bike paths.

I heard Jesse didn’t want to move onto another State Wide Office and wasn’t happy that he was asked to. The Mayor Irwin rumor is growing strong but that might just be with his own people pushing that alternative.

Lightfoot and Griffin are not the strangest political bedfellows I can think of. The enemy of my enemy and what-not.
They may not agree on much, but I think they understand each other. Statewide D and R labels don’t fit well in Chicago’s non-partisan arena.

That tends to happen when you treat everyone around you like first year law clerks.
- Chicagonk - Monday, Dec 6, 21 @ 4:49 pm:
There are a lot of reasons for why violent crime is rising in Chicago and what’s depressing is everyone is blaming each other rather than finding ways to work together - and this is all within the same political party.

Politics and reality sometimes miss each other.
Do you think it’s an accident that both Griffin and Lightfoot want to blame the governor?
Griffin to defeat Pritzker, Lightfoot so “Mayors Own” won’t stick.
Plus, what, Lightfoot’s campaign theme is “well, what can ya do, amirite?” Lightfoot using Griffin’s beefs as cover and Griffin using Lightfoot’s issues with the legislators and governor to blame is a convince for both.

People have free will. That’s never going to change.
“Plus, what, Lightfoot’s campaign theme is “well, what can ya do, amirite?” That made me laugh. She might indeed lose if she runs again. And the person who replaces her won’t be able to do anything either. That’s just the way it is. People have free will.
