Unclear on the concept

Wednesday, Dec 15, 2021 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Center Square loves to normalize and highlight the outliers

State Rep. Adam Niemerg, a Republican, has been against the continuance of the mask mandate and said that other options should be considered.

“As usual, the Governors’s only answer is to shut down businesses, mask our children, vaccination, vaccination,” Niemerg said. “We need to actually examine what we are doing, remove political theatre from these decisions and give Illinoisans a clear path to combatting this virus.”

…Adding… Good points in comments, including…

If the Eastern Bloc had to “remove political theatre” they would have nothing left.

At what is Niemerg’s alternative to masking and vaccination? What are these “other options” of which he speaks? “Thoughts and prayers”? Horse medicine?

  2. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:24 pm:

-give Illinoisans a clear path to combatting this virus-

What’s unclear about wearing masks and getting shots?

Center Square - The Home of the Alternative Facts and Takes

    That’s not great.

When the in-law uncle needs his ridiculousness justified.

That’s not serving any public good. Nope.

  4. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:27 pm:

    ===What’s unclear about===

They argue like children and that outlet never dares question them.

  5. - Cool Papa Bell - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:29 pm:

    =“Thoughts and prayers”? Horse medicine=

That’s exactly what they think should be done. Lots of horse medicine, I tripped over to a national right wing talk show the other day and they were still screaming about ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine.

  6. - Steve Rogers - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:35 pm:

For Rep. Niemerg: I’m guessing that your alternative is to do away with masks and shots, and let natural selection figure it out. After tens of millions of deaths later, Rep. Thanos can finally say, I told you so–my alternative worked.

If the Eastern Bloc had to “remove political theatre” they would have nothing left.

  8. - Leslie K - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:39 pm:

Um…I don’t want to be banned, so I’ll restrain myself. But wow.

Speaking of horse medicine, however: a co-worker of mine now has COVID for the second time. Not vaccinated, trying to get ivermectin, was very close to hospitalization last week. Once he gets back to work he is definitely not allowed in my office. We’ll Zoom from across the hall, thank you.

  9. - Norseman - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:40 pm:

=== remove political theatre from these decisions ===

Said by a politician who has been aggressively participating in a theater of lies created by his party for partisan purposes. An act that has literally killed thousands of people, infected many more and harmed our economy.

  10. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:45 pm:

=== the Governors’s only answer is to shut down businesses, mask our children, vaccination, vaccination,”===

Closing businesses, masking, and “vaccination, vaccination” is not an “only answer.” It’s three.

And if you don’t want to close businesses and wear masks, then “vaccination, vaccination.”

    Why is this so hard?

  11. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:46 pm:

    === Outliers revolted against England.===

Another in-law uncle heard from, lol

So the King if England was a global pandemic that could also be cured by a vaccine, we didn’t need a revolution?

    My goodness, LOL

Adam has said that Darren Bailey is the greatest thing since Donald Trump.

You’re not much better than Center Square especially when you delete comments that don’t share your narrative.

  14. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:54 pm:

=== delete comments that don’t share your narrative===

I delete comments for several reasons. Anti-vax stupidity being one. Bite me.

  15. - Leslie K - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:55 pm:

==Comprehensive national data shows mask mandates are ineffective. It’s incomprehensible to me that Illinoisans are ok with us having one still.==

Care to share a link? Also, I still don’t get why masks freak some people out so much. Just a bizarre thing to obsess about if you regularly wear pants and shirts.

  16. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 2:56 pm:

    ===Care to share a link? ===

Won’t see that nut no more.

  18. - ProCensorshipJurno - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:00 pm:

=== I delete comments for serval reasons === the primary reason being that they don’t fit in the approved narrative… neither masks nor jabs have worked as advertised especially considering we are talking about revamping the same failed mitigations that got us here

  19. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:01 pm:

Hamlet, you were put into moderation for several reasons, including when you repeatedly claimed “the pandemic is over.” If you don’t like it, you don’t have to comment.

  20. - Pundent - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:01 pm:

=give Illinoisans a clear path to combatting this virus=

I’m all ears. But if Niemerg has a clear path that doesn’t include any of the things he’s against, he will be the first to articulate one.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:03 pm:

Alternative Facts as a narrative you’d like to see is a narrative of misinformation.

    Facebook exists for that.

  22. - Norseman - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:05 pm:

=== Outliers revolted against England. ===

The General heading the army of “outliers” revolting against England mandated inoculations for smallpox. What we have today are liars and narcissists who don’t care about the health of their community.

  23. - TheInvisibleMan - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:06 pm:

    = delete comments =

If you don’t like it, go start your own blog. My comments often don’t show up, but if seeing my own comments on a screen was that important to me I’d just post them in a word document.

But to the point, Adam also has quite a string of fluff bills submitted which I think quite clearly shows what he thinks should be done. Which is basically a cat hair above nothing, and to let the high school dropouts in town be on equal footing as professionals when deciding public health policy.

  24. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:07 pm:

    ===they don’t fit in the approved narrative===

  25. - Leslie K - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:07 pm:

==If you are deleted off Capital Fax, consider yourself officially not part of the “in crowd.”==

Nope. Rich encourages thoughtful conversation from divergent viewpoints. The key word there is “thoughtful.” If you want to rant, there are plenty of places to do so. I’ve had a few (several?) comments over the years hit moderation, and even not ever be posted at all–and I deserved every one. I hope it’s made me more thoughtful and contributive with my comments. It has certainly made me think more carefully in my own political world, even apart from CapitolFax.

  26. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:18 pm:

===neither masks nor jabs have worked as advertised===

    lol

    Have you been vaxed?

  27. - Lurker - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:18 pm:

I cannot stop laughing at the greatness of this post.
If you are deleted off Capital Fax, consider yourself officially not part of the “in crowd.”

And the US needs a third party stat. Republicans are bat@$&” crazy anymore but I simply do not comply with Dem ideology.

If they refer to it as “jabs” I am gonna go with No.

    Dave wins

  32. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:34 pm:

    ===gonna go with No===

Yeah, good point. They’re such overly dramatic chickens.

  33. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:36 pm:

=“We need to actually examine what we are doing, remove political theatre from these decisions and give Illinoisans a clear path to combatting this virus.”=

Clear path= Mask, vax, distance. Clear as a bell.

==== Outliers revolted against England. ====

For a patriot type comment you don’t know your history very well.

Washington, Hamilton, Adams, Franklin, Jefferson et al represented the upper class of colonial America. They had a lot to lose, but they were not outliers by any stretch.

For a group that hates indoctrination and made up history, they do a lot of it.

Also, in Demmer country…Byron school district moves to an adaptive pause and is responsible for 2/3rds of recent COVID cases in Ogle county. Maybe not in the eastern bloc, but Demmer is sympathetic.

  34. - Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:40 pm:

    My favorite verse…

“When you’re in with the in crowd, it’s so easy to find romance
Any time of the year, don’t you hear? If it’s square, we ain’t there…”

  35. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:44 pm:

    ===the greatness of this post===

The inherent beauty of posts like this is while they cause me to do a bit more work deleting and banning anti-vaxxer propagandists and their ilk, they can’t come back, which saves me work down the road. They’re like a honey pot.

  36. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:48 pm:

=== Outliers revolted against England. ===

It’s always so bizarre to me that people who buy into these easily disproved theories want to wrap themselves in patriotic glory.

Ask what you can do for your country. Right now, that means get your shots.

  37. - Fixer - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:50 pm:

I’m surprised to see this many of the anti everything folks coming out of the woodwork here. Did you guys run out of windmills to tilt at early today?

  38. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:51 pm:

What is so controversial about stating the fact that Illinois and 7 other states are the outliers that require masks.

  39. - DHS Drone - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:51 pm:

Always fun to watch people who proclaim to love freedom, cry when they are kicked off of a private webpage. I thought you all were into personal responsibility and the sanctity of private property? It’s Rich’s page. If he don’t want it on here, it isn’t on here. Don’t like it, go elsewhere. Plenty of places out there to validate your worldview.

  40. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:52 pm:

===What is so controversial about ===

It was more about the “vaccination, vaccination” crack and the fact that he had no actual ideas.

But I just got some info that I’ll be sharing tomorrow on the rest of your question.

  41. - TheInvisibleMan - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:55 pm:

= coming out of the woodwork here =

Devore had a status hearing for his school district lawsuit against masks today, the date to decide the injunction will be set during this hearing. They are riled up all over social media right now.

  42. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 3:56 pm:

===you all were into personal responsibility===

Hilarious. They want none of that.

  43. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:00 pm:

===They are riled up all over social media right now.===

    Right now? lol

  44. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:02 pm:

===…the fact that Illinois and 7 other states are the outliers that require masks.===

Do masks really hinder your freedom so much that the deaths of 800,000 Americans are no big whoop?

Spending time in states without masks, I’ve found the idea of freedom is not a greater good thing but a selfishly angry badge of Americans who really have no interest in their fellow Americans… as these same folks want a uniformity to be… selfish, not selfless.

  45. - TheInvisibleMan - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:04 pm:

Yes. Right now. It’s becoming a guilty pleasure to be a lurker in many of their local groups. It started out just watching so I knew what was coming next for my friends on various local boards. However, it also provides some pretty interesting entertainment throughout the day during the times I pull myself away from working.

  46. - Langhorne - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:04 pm:

    “Vaccinations, vaccinations”

    “Vaccinations, vaccinations”

1.9 million covid cases in illinois

    27,000 deaths

    3,000 probable

    Vaccinations, damn straight.

  47. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:08 pm:

===It’s becoming a guilty pleasure to be a lurker in many of their local groups===

From an anti-vax group I regularly monitor

Hope they wear their seatbelts and drive safely.

  48. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:12 pm:

… to bring it back to Center Square and the post,

This angry selfishness based on nothing for a greater good of the country, you have places like Facebook and Center Square aiding and abetting these hollow alternative narratives that are based on opinion, anger, and truly inconvenience… with a share of a toxic fear of a “jab” or worse a conspiracy theory that rattles in their empty heads.

In a Civil War, Americans actually killing other Americans, we needed 4 years of fighting to reach 700,000+… in a two year span now, Americans have lost 800,000 of our countrymen.

Selfishness is more dangerous than “Northern Aggression”, but just as ridiculous and silly when presented with ignorant pride.

  49. - illini - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:22 pm:

Great discussion here today. I’ve commented very little lately but have to share my thoughts.

First, I am one of those individuals who has a highly compromised immune system, but I am not a fool. All my shots, boosters and all are up to date and I follow all the other rules so I feel relatively “safe” most of the time.

Second, this discussion with the “science deniers” with all their various “facts” reminds me of the regular conversations I try to have with the Cult followers of two specific Illinois politicians on their FB pages. None will ever respond directly to me but their minions and true believers are always there to spread the accepted party line and try to humiliate me. Yet their retorts only serve to make themselves look even more ridiculous. It is really easy to mess with people like this. And fun as well.

  50. - Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:32 pm:

    800,000…dead.

  51. - West Side the Best Side - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:32 pm:

Think I’ll boycott Blessing Hospital too. But never having ever being aware of its existence until now, being in Cook County and having no plans or inclination to go to Quincy, that probably makes it easy for me to do. I’m certainly willing to rethink my position if I’m ever in Quincy and need to go to a hospital however.

  52. - Pundent - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 4:32 pm:

How exactly does one go about boycotting a hospital? Do you wear an ID bracelet to alert EMS? I mean I already do my best to make sure I’m not a regular customer. But if I have a grabber proximity is kind of important.

  53. - cermak_rd - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 5:08 pm:

I believe IL still has a mask mandate because we failed to hit our metrics. And with the new rises now it’s probably a good thing that those who are observing it have not stopped. As we know from last year, it’s heard to start back up once one has stopped.

  54. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 5:08 pm:

Studies show mask mandates work. But that’s not what they teach at JRU (Joe Rogan University), where people “do their own research.”

Masks working is common sense. COVID is transmitted via respiratory fluids/droplets, and if those are reduced via masks, then there’s less virus to spread. They are not perfect but they generally work.

  55. - SWIL_Voter - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 5:19 pm:

The states with mask mandates rank #1, 3, 7, 10, 17, 19, 22, and 23 in terms of stopping the spread of COVID. Hmmm all in the top half. Maybe they know what they’re doing?

  56. - zatoichi - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 5:37 pm:

Perhaps Niemerg could use that Google thing -

    https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20210907/masks-limit-covid-spread-study

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/science-briefs/masking-science-sars-cov2.html

But that does means effort to go beyond talking points. Would love to hear the mask discussions in court with the growing lists of studies.

  57. - TiredOfIt - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 6:11 pm:

zatoichi/ Bangladesh study was shown to be a farce. Google truly is your friend here.

  58. - Eastern Bloc Mitigation - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 6:58 pm:

Maybe Adam Niemerg will dazzle us by expanding his abolition crusade to include seatbelts and lifejackets next.

  59. - Crash - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 8:18 pm:

Wow. I check in this evening and find out that the anti-vaxxers were out in force. It is amazing how they find these posts.

This was said about a particular candidate but it applies to the anti-mask and anti-vax crowd: if you are ever lost in a forest, mumble something about the virtues of vaccines and you will be surrounded in minutes.

  60. - Jibba - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 8:31 pm:

As per CNN map yesterday, Illinois has the lowest total per capita of Covid cases to date in the Midwest. Guess masking had a little to do with that.

  61. - Pundent - Wednesday, Dec 15, 21 @ 9:37 pm:

When you read Niemerg’s words and realize that he’s merely pandering to a minority of people in this state, with thousands of Ives lost, realize how callous it is.

  62. - Blue Dog - Thursday, Dec 16, 21 @ 6:47 am:

in my neck of the woods, people wearing masks are few and far between.

  63. - Down South Dem - Thursday, Dec 16, 21 @ 7:48 am:

It would be tremendous to have serious representation. Unfortunately people don’t see a problem with these jokers down here.
