Rumor patrol
Monday, Mar 14, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller * I received a bunch of text messages yesterday claiming that Gov. JB Pritzker didn’t finish the South Side Irish Parade for security reasons. Someone even tweeted about it. The governor participated by invitation of the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council, and an aide to Executive Secretary-Treasurer Gary Perinar told me the governor was never on a float (the council didn’t even have a float) and walked the entire parade route to the end. This year’s parade started at 103rd St. and ran south to 115th St. As you can see, they walked past Kennedy Park. Also, note the street sign on the second pic. It’s the end of the parade… ![]() * And a video… The video was sent phone-to-phone, so it’s blurry. …Adding… Maybe now we can turn to the very real and IMPORTANT story of how Chicago FOP President John Catanzara wore orange to the Northwest Side Irish Parade. Kind of a faux pas, unless he’s an Orangeman.

Regardless, he was still booed whether this is true or not.
- low level - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:02 am:
Thank you, Rich. I saw this rumor posted on several friend’s pages who are not fans of the governor and I was wondering if it was true or not. Thank you for putting it straight.

I understand things didnt go well for Lightfoot which probably is no surprise

You ever been to Chicago?

Video evidence be buggered.
I read tweets to the contrary.
- 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:11 am:
A lot of pols get booed at that parade. Not sure why they bother marching.
- Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:11 am:
“he was still booed”
Politicians could ban Mondays and make ice cream free and they’d be booed.

So is every sports commissioner, referee, the only person who is seemingly immune is Jesse White, who is beloved.
To the post,
Social media and negative narratives are a marriage for a want of a story.
My concern would be only of (and I’m not gonna give ideas not already being used) safety or belligerent choices that are alcohol infused.
Once safety is not questioned… got booed, of course they both did

Don’t get out much? You might have noticed:
A guy who can’t resist throwing an insult at POTUS on a video meeting?
Elected representatives heckling the State of the Union?
Trump exhorting a rally to boo the press? This is the society we live in.
- Big Dipper - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:15 am:
Wow, booed by a bunch of drunken right-wing Beverly/Mount Greenwood types. Devastating.
Re Cataranza, maybe the orange was a nod to the spray tan of his hero.
- ggs - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:16 am:
He also got cheered so
- Red Pill Me Bro - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:19 am:
Nice bit o government propaganda Miller, the guy in the second pic is far too thin to be JB, and isn’t even wearing the same clothes.

=A lot of pols get booed=
As a high school/college kid I went to most of the Chicago St Patricks Day parades. MJM would often go right after the Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band. I never witness him getting booed - the crowd loved the man.
- 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:23 am:
I think Red Pill might be a fan of Cort Chubko. Or maybe Chubko already made bail…
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:23 am:
===Nice bit o government propaganda===
Friend, you wouldn’t know what it’s like when faced with real government propaganda if it wore a sign.
Those gaslighting “government propaganda” are the same folks who tell you about a half a dozen conspiracy theories that include the food you feed your dog allows the dog to be a beacon. Facebook is a great place for that.
Parades are that necessity of visibility but rarely a measure of popularity…

They were probably cheering for the band.
- Publius - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:29 am:
Cataranza should be wearing Orange on July 12. In Chicago having that parade around the southside might cause problems.

They were saying boo-urns.
- Lakefront - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:39 am:
C’mon. There’s legitimate critiques of Catanzara but the man is wearing green clover pants and the orange campaign shirt has green writing. A “faux pas” might be a stretch here.

Dankakee sorry I didn’t see your post.
- Crash - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:49 am:
The Cantanzara thing is bizarre. Among us Irish Americans, that is a big deal. I find most St. Pat’s events to be somewhat ridiculous and I never intentionally wear green, but you don’t wear orange that day.
- Been There - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 9:58 am:
==== He also got cheered so====
He got booed and he got cheered. Lori got booed more and cheered less. Rabine, Irwin, Bailey also all got cheered and booed or ignored.
- Rich Miller - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 10:00 am:
===but you don’t wear orange that day===
I have a tradition of wearing an orange tie to the Sullivan Caucus party. But people know I’m just joshing them.
I would never, ever wear orange to an event like that. lol

===A “faux pas” might be a stretch here===
Right. Hilarious.
- TheInvisibleMan - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 10:07 am:
“he was still booed”
Nah, they were just yelling ‘boo-urns’
- The Hills 60010 - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 10:11 am:
If there was booing, jeering, throwing things from a few in the crowd, does that really mean anything? Those who boo think a voter is going to be persuaded by a boo? “Vote don’t Boo”
- New Day - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 10:28 am:
I marched in that parade once with a candidate and all along the parade route drunk citizens kept swearing at us and shouting “who the F is ______” but they didn’t say F. Honestly, I hate that parade.
- low level - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 10:46 am:
== Honestly, I hate that parade.==.
100%. The whole thing is a bunch of obnoxious drunks. Its cleaned up a bit the past 10 years or so but still ridiculous.
- The Snowman - Monday, Mar 14, 22 @ 10:51 am:
TheInvisibleMan’s post gave me the best chuckle. Thank you. It wasn’t just that Pritzker was booed…it was the intensity of the booing. That little sketchy video was taken from the back of a trailer that was in front of JB and his banner. Those walking with him were chanting and wooing loudly…to drown out the boos of the parade attendees. Beautiful.

As a frequent attendant at the South Side parade, I can tell you JB’s was received much better than the last governor who marched:

Agreed. It’s turned into Halloween in March, basically, as far as the alcohol industry is concerned.
Likewise, I call Halloween “St. Patrick’s Day in October.”

- New Day - Monday, thank you.
” I marched in that parade once with a candidate and all along the parade route drunk citizens kept swearing at us and shouting “who the F is ______” but they didn’t say F. Honestly, I hate that parade.”
Signed up to go and support my longer congressman, but my native born and raised Chicago pals, with alarm, cautioned me that I should not go. The Chicago tribalism is still strange to me.

He was also received much, much, much better than if a “star” from a certain North Side “major league” team that seems to play Triple A ball was the grand marshal.
