Catching up on yesterday’s story on DeVore. He and his family would have to wear masks at Disney. That may also explain his “boycott”. Guess he’s not prepped yet to sue Disney over his “freedom”.

Milhiser a very qualified and viable candidate is in an unenviable position.
Attending events and functions with some of the far out and unconventional characters population the Republican primary can’t be easy.
Hope he becomes an expert at dodging pictures.

  3. - RedKetcher - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 4:44 am:

    should be populating

  4. - Proud Papa Bear - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 4:52 am:

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
The day I celebrate 1/8 of my heritage.
It was also the day my grandpa was shot in World War II and a steel pen saved his life. Every year we toast him at 7pm, Central time, regardless of where we are in the country.

Did Bailey get his Magic Bus up and running?

  6. - bored now - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 6:48 am:

so when does the river run on of dye???

  7. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 6:49 am:

The first day of what is probably a 4-day holiday in Downtown Springfield. March Madness starting on St. Patricks Day plus the parade Saturday. So glad to get out of Springfield every day after work.

  8. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 6:51 am:

The Friends of the Chicago River has now come out against the annual green dyeing of the river downtown:

  9. - Skeptic - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:02 am:

“The Friends of the Chicago River has now come out against the annual green dyeing of the river downtown:” But thankfully, one of the Republican candidates is going to take Chicago back to 1932 when America was great, men were men and the river got dyed green gosh darn it. Oh and gangsters ran the streets.

WTTW’s electricians’ union (IBEW 1220) has gone on strike. This forced the station to air a best of “Chicago Tonight” episode last night:

While the Friends of the Chicago River plan to take the river back to the year 1022, centuries before any European settlement and about 700 years before St. Patrick’s Day was even an Irish feast day.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:27 am:

    Good morning.

Taverns all over Illinois will be at full tilt with St. Patrick’s Day and March Madness converging today, a day likely mirroring “before times”.

Productivity will be low at workplaces, plan accordingly…

Also… Is the Sullivan Caucus… “Caucusing”

  14. - Suburbanon - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:28 am:

Green River? Much better than letting the Prods dye it Orange.

  15. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:33 am:

==Productivity will be low at workplaces, plan accordingly…==

Not in some state offices. Any sports websites including CBS Sports’ March Madness official site are blocked in my state office building.

  16. - OneMan - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:35 am:

There are closer Aurelio’s than Naples, FL folks you don’t have to drive all the way down there.

  17. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:36 am:

Rich, it looks like your site still needs to go on Daylight Savings Time. My and others’ posts are still an hour behind.

Unless it’s still set to use the pre-2007 DST schedule (when DST began the first Sunday in April), since CapFax’s current site dates back to late 2004.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:36 am:

=== Not in some state offices.===

It’s a big world out there… I’m guessing smart phones will be used, as they are used every day.

Now, when workplaces got rid of “Minesweeper”, production went through the roof.

  19. - JoanP - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:39 am:

I thought my mail contained some new magazine.

It was a very slick, 16-page “2022 Progress Report” from JB. Dude is spending (not that he doesn’t have it).

In what is likely sheer coincidence, it’s in the Ukrainian colors.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:40 am:

=== In what is likely sheer coincidence, it’s in the Ukrainian colors.===

I’m *pretty sure* in 2018 the Pritzker Crew used those colors as a candidate.

    I’d Google it.

  21. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:40 am:

==Now, when workplaces got rid of “Minesweeper”, production went through the roof.==

I never played that much, I was more of a Solitaire guy.

  22. - Wensicia - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:45 am:

I heard on the news about hundreds of cars lining up overnight for free gas in Chicago.

  23. - JoanP - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:46 am:

    @ OW -

Yep, I checked and you’re right. You’ve got a good memory.

I figured it was a coincidence, although considering that his ancestors came from there, I wonder if, back in 2018, it was a nod to them.

But I have been known to read too much into things.

  24. - TinyDancer(FKASue) - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:46 am:

    =very slick, 16-page “2022 Progress Report” from JB.=

Right. What a waste of money.
    Looks like a homework assignment.
Needs to be a bit more focused.
Ad agency never heard of one, two, three?

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:48 am:

    - JoanP -

I figured you forgot more than anything, it’s all good.

Blue and gold (also Jim Edgar’s colors too) are my personal campaign favorite.

Others like orange and blue, which is quite understandable, but now I’m digressing… it’s a day of the “wearin’ o the green”

  26. - Torco Sign - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:58 am:

    @TinyDancer

If it were 2 or 3 pieces, people wouldn’t be talking about it the same way. It’s a show of strength.

  27. - Cheryl44 - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:13 am:

St Patrick’s Day is so last weekend.

  28. - TinyDancer(FKASue) - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:14 am:

    @Torco Sign

“One, two, three” would all be in one ad.
It’s a way to draw the reader’s attention to the (one) main point. Evidently no longer being taught in commercial art classes.
Can’t even find explanation of the strategy online.
Evidently, they need to re-introduce it.

  29. - Suburban Mom - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:14 am:

I realized I actually know what Bailey was talking about yesterday with his “restore” stuff and now I fear for my sanity. It’s a badly-rehashed, badly-remembered evangelical Christian theology thing, where the world will be “restored and perfected” when Jesus comes back; and “restored” means “restored to conditions before Adam and Eve ate the apple and caused the Fall.” But it’s “restored AND PERFECTED,” not just restored, and in any case the Greek word has nothing to do with making things better than they were. The Greek word whatever preacher he heard this sermon from however long ago was probably referring to the Greek word that etymologically breaks down as “to carry again” or “to pick back up.”

  30. - TNR - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:17 am:

I got the new JB mega-mail piece at my house as well — two of them, one for me and one for my spouse. Man, just once I want to work on a campaign that has that much money to burn.

  31. - Torco Sign - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:17 am:

    @TinyDancer I misread. I understand now.

  32. - Amalia - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:19 am:

re DST, posts behind, my brain behind. foggy for a week. can’t wait for no change time.

  33. - Arsenal - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:23 am:

==But I have been known to read too much into things. ==

Maybe, but it’s certainly a happy accident.

    ==What a waste of money.==

It’s very rare that a voter contact that gets a little attention is a waste of money. I remember thinking Rauner’s extra-long door hangers in ‘14 were dumb, and to this day I still laugh at the full-sized booklets the Sangamon County Republican Party puts out, but…

==Ad agency never heard of one, two, three? ==

They probably did. They decided to do something else for this mailer. Might be worth it to ask why.

  34. - Product of the '60's - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:39 am:

Yes grid lock around 10 gas stations in city. Willie Wilson, former mayoral and multiple office candidate, as well as a wealthy businessman, giving up to $50 free gas, altogether $200K till money runs out. Asked yesterday when it was announced if he was considering running for mayor again he was non specific. He gave out cash to church members the last time he ran for mayor.

  35. - Because I said so.... - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:46 am:

Willie Wilson is causing traffic nightmares in various locations in Chicago.

  36. - Paddyrollingstone - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 8:51 am:

    We are the music makers
And we are the dreamers of dreams
    Wandering by lone sea breakers

    And sitting by desolate streams
    World-losers and world-forsakers
On whom the pale moon gleams
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the whole world forever it seems.

    Arthur William Edgar O’Shaugnessy

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  37. - Northsider - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 9:05 am:

Quite the St. Patrick’s Day tweet from the Bears. Apparently no one at Halas Hall knows anything about Irish history.

  38. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 9:06 am:

==Blue and gold (also Jim Edgar’s colors too)==

Which are similar, but not quite, to EIU’s colors (EIU uses gray instead of gold).

==I got the new JB mega-mail piece at my house as well — two of them, one for me and one for my spouse. Man, just once I want to work on a campaign that has that much money to burn.==

Hopefully they’re offering a “paperless” option to save the environment by receiving the report digitally instead of by print. I would think they would.

  40. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 9:12 am:

=== Hopefully they’re offering a “paperless” option to save the environment by receiving the report digitally instead of by print. I would think they would.===

That’s really not how Direct Mail works. The intent is to get into the household, even if it’s “garbage” and recycled.

I’m confused how gray and gold are similar, but …

=It was a very slick, 16-page “2022 Progress Report” from JB. Dude is spending (not that he doesn’t have it).=

I got this too and agree with whoever said it that it’s a show of strength. Obviously he has the money to do whatever he wants and a mailer - even a 16-page full color mailer - ain’t gonna break the bank. But I wonder about the efficacy - I doubt many will read all the way through.

I also wonder about the universe (and the total cost)

  42. - Arsenal - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 9:43 am:

==I doubt many will read all the way through.==

I doubt the JB campaign really expects them to.

“Someone can fill a sleek mini magazine with JB’s accomplishments” is just about all the campaign really needs them to think. And it’s probably even more primal than that.

  43. - Downstate - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 10:42 am:

I love the fact that 20-30 years ago, St. Patrick’s day wasn’t a big event in Ireland. In fact, US tourists were more than disappointed to travel to Ireland and discover minimal revelry on the big day.

Since then, Ireland’s hospitality industry has ramped up their St. Patrick’s day celebration to duplicate the celebrations started in the US.

  44. - Leslie K - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 11:00 am:

Suburban Mom–thank you for the info. Although I now fear for the sanity of both of us

  45. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 11:39 am:

No more Wally’s built until a Waffle House is built north of Peoria

Anyone interested in this endeavor let me know “off air”

  46. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 11:44 am:

==No more Wally’s built until a Waffle House is built north of Peoria==

They need to start by building north of Collinsville and Granite City. If Jack in the Box is strong in the STL area and there’s one in Litchfield, maybe start with a WH in Litchfield.

There is a Huddle House in Williamsville, but they’re only a competitor or take-off on WH.

But at least the Chicago area has White Castle (or at least did in the 90s). Other than the frozen sliders you get at the store, they’re non-existent anywhere downstate between Chicago and St. Louis.

two different Sox Cubs games on, split squads. keep switching and I will never see the Cubs bat.

  51. - cermak_rd - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 2:37 pm:

Did anyone see the Chicago Bear’s social media ad commemmorating St. Patrick’s day with the river photoshopped to be Bear’s Orange? It has caused quite an uproar and the Bears have deleted it apparently unaware they were stepping into a sectarian squabble.

  52. - Leslie K - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 3:05 pm:

On a road trip from Chicago to St. Louis, just had a nice stop at Wallys (but I feel you on the Waffle House issue, OW), and hwy 55 is closed at the south edge of Bloomington Normal. Does anyone know why it’s closed or where it opens up again?

  53. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 3:06 pm:

    - Leslie K -

It’s a travesty of justice I tell ya, a travesty (exclamation point)

Possibly still closed due to a fatal crash on MP 156 just south of the 74/Veterans Parkway interchange? Even though it happened this morning?

    https://pantagraph.com/news/local/public_safety/i-55-in-bloomington-closed-after-fatal-crash/article_9f358eeb-19c2-54cb-b1c1-6ab9e7f26ee4.html

  56. - Leslie K - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 6:00 pm:

That was probably it, thank you. Awful crash.

  57. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 17, 22 @ 7:56 pm:

Hopefully Buc-eyes will come to IL. All over Texas and expanding in Southeast. Over 100 gas pumps , no trucks allowed, great clean restrooms, great food, and about size of a Walmart.
