Pat Foley’s days as Blackhawks announcer are coming to an end. I started listening to him in the early ‘80s on WIND, right around the time he started. Always have enjoyed his passion, and who can forget this -
A lot of people in the comments yesterday on the Bell Bowl Prairie post didn’t seem to actually be familiar with the issue other than it being another “industry v environment” feud.
Bell Bowl Prairie is 1/5 of Illinois’ high-quality gravel prairie and is the documented home to multiple endangered species. This type of ecosystem takes thousands of years to develop and we’ve almost wiped it out in our state. Meanwhile, the airport won’t communicate in good faith with advocates and “missed” the local endangered and threatened species in their environmental assessment.
It’s disappointing all around and I’m frustrated that less public officials recognize the importance than I would expect.
==After yesterday’s weather “near miss” just grateful WICS no longer does “Code Red” … . Gratitude is a good way to start the day.==
Even when the Enhanced risk was eventually downgraded to Marginal for the Springfield area, 20 were still hyping up the risk yesterday becauase Effingham County and the Eastern Bloc remained in the higher-risk severe category.
Although this ended up being the ALPLM’s gain, the bad thing about being grateful for no more Code Red on 20 is it led to no more Joe Crain in the mornings.
Cubs have mostly been having good at bats so far, but that will need to translate to scoring more runs. Not to mention the bullpen lost them one game already and likely will be continue to be suspect. Still have a hard time seeing them winning more than 75 games. Next couple of years anything over 70-75 wins will be gravy.
Other than that - enjoying the great weather in NoVA this week! Back home to North Carolina for the long weekend later today. Should be beautiful there as well. Hope everyone here has a great Easter Weekend.
Scott Reeder’s Illinois Times column today lambasts the long tradition of lack of budget transparency, going back at least to Ryan. He also used the 2005 stem cell funding debate (which GA rejected but Blago inserted anyway) as an example of the lack of transparency:
NIU halted negotiations with two educators’ unions when negotiators from each invited the president of the other union to observe talks. NIU says having a non-union member at negotiations is not SOP and poses a conflict.
United Faculty Alliance represents tenure-track professors, and University Professionals of Illinois represents non-tenure-track educators. Both organizations filed complaints with the Labor Relations Board, alleging unlawful negotiating practices.
Have a “Good Friday” is an attempt at a little humor. There’s only one day a year you can wish someone to prospectively “have a Good Friday” and for it to have a double meaning.
It’s like telling someone to have a “great weekend”, before the actual weekend. But in this case it denotes both the day and the religious designation of the day.
Stones- agree on the Sox offense (Robert, Jimenez and Anderson all homered last night), but as a closer Hendriks is worrisome. ERA of 9.0 in 3 appearances. More hits given up than strikeouts so far.

Agree that Hendricks hasn’t looked great so far. I’m willing to give him some time based on past performance. Eloy is a fine hitter but his defense is terrible in LF. Wish we had one more starter but I’ll take our chances if we can stay relatively healthy this season.

The Sox look like a championship caliber team as long as Tim Anderson and Luis Robert are in the lineup.

Pat Foley is a huge loss, coming back now retiring… fondest memories are those Foley losing his mind for Murray…

Even my 8 year old niece gets it. But whatever.
