* Background is here if you need it. This new Richard Irvin TV ad was recorded by a subscriber using a mobile phone and texted to me while watching WGN TV’s noon news, so the quality is lousy…
* The ad features several veterans talking about Jesse Sullivan…
It was pretty disgusting what he did.
Jesse Sullivan repeatedly implied he’s a combat veteran knowing full on he was not in the military, did not serve in combat.
He was a social worker.
It’s a slap in the face. he didn’t go through any of the stuff that we went through.
I’ve lost some of my brothers in combat.
You don’t lie about it just so you can get a couple of votes.
What Jesse Sullivan did disqualifies him. He should withdraw from the campaign. I would not vote for Jesse Sullivan for dog catcher.
Stolen valor is real, Sullivan is stealing that valor from those who served, and educating voters on Sullivan’s shady background of stealing valor is well done, veterans talking, veterans explaining, veterans angry.
It’s good. The music is meh, probably kept it from an A.
It’s a good B ad, and one that had to be expected from someone given how egregious Sullivan’s early advertising was on this issue. This looks like an Irvin vs Bailey race with Sullivan a distant third and the rest bordering on embarrassment right now. So, shaving some points off Sullivan might be to Irvin’s benefit.
Irvin has some unclean hands here himself. Although his claim to be a “combat veteran” may be technically true, using that term and a pic of himself in uniform misleadingly suggests to lay people that he saw actual combat.
Hmm well let’s see where each partisan democrat in the video saw combat. Sullivan saw more danger than 90% of veterans in the military serving today, so as a veteran I don’t honestly care, still voting Sullivan.
I’ve heard that DuPage Republican women are hesitant to support Irvin, and that Sullivan is the beneficiary of that. This ad suggests to me that polling may be supporting that anecdotal evidence. As for the ad, whatever. Am I to believe that there aren’t partisan veterans? Are veterans a monolithic voting block that simply votes for “honorable” candidates?” If you think that veterans aren’t partisan, you should watch the videos from January 6.
B+ - it’s a charge he hasn’t really answered. But looks like Irvin’s people are a bit more worried about Sullivan than their poll last week would suggest.
Yeah, Irvin is a real “combat veteran”. A scud missile flew over his head while he was in country. For that he got a medal - that everyone else got who was there. Wow.

I am no longer convinced that Sullivan hurts Bailey.

This is an A. Maybe the best ad of the cycle so far. Having the veterans personally make the case is the key.
Would love to know if Irvin’s polling shows Sullivan surging or if this is just a preemptive response to the money Sullivan is spending.

B. the dog catcher comment is over the top.
- Henry Francis - Tuesday, May 3, 22 @ 1:59 pm:
Attacking Sullivan is like shooting fish in a barrel. (And you don’t even need Bailey’s AR-15 to do so)

I suspect it’s just that they’re fishing in the same pond.

===are a bit more worried about Sullivan than their poll===
1) They didn’t release a poll;
2) Amateurs always shout “They’re worried!” when somebody does something to counter somebody else. Maybe they’re just being prudent.
- Lurker - Tuesday, May 3, 22 @ 3:29 pm:
Or maybe they have a lot of money to spend

Rich Miller is voting for Irvin, I have insider info.

I just hope they keep tearing each other apart. That works for me every day.
