For too long, Illinois has been known as a haven for Democrat corruptocrats and wannabe communists. But it wasn’t always this way. Our state gave the country the leader who won the Civil War, and the leader who won the Cold War. I’m running for governor to be the leader that helps us win the culture war. Our kids aren’t racists. Boys aren’t girls. And we’re never allowing our kids to be used as political pawns ever again. If you agree with this kind of good old America First common sense and want a leader who can’t be bought, then please vote for me.

I still have trouble grasping why Pat Brady, who for decades billed himself as a moderate Republican and as the go-to GOP guy for Chicago political (especially TV) reporters, is working to nominate Rabine. But, hey, it’s a free country.

The hottest trend in ILGOP is to stand in a dark room and rant at me.

  2. - Emmerder - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:03 am:

RE: Pat Brady. You mean it’s a “fee” country.

  3. - TheInvisibleMan - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:04 am:

    “good old America First”

They had a good old rally in Madison Square Garden in 1939.

    This ad is an F.

    So is Gary Rabine.

  4. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:04 am:

As a Dem, I give it an A. Please more of this, and share your thoughts on abortion.

Crime, inflation, Covid protocols, your seat at the very back is now ready.

  5. - Pekin Pete - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:05 am:

This might be the worst ad I’ve ever seen by a candidate that has a few bucks. The fact he has no name id and this doesn’t even say who he is, embarrassing. F- -2/10

  6. - The Snowman - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:06 am:

I agree with Rabine’s message, but he doesn’t have the dollars for enough GOP primary voters to be swayed in his direction…in my opinion.

  7. - Demoralized - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:06 am:

    F. He sounds like a cranky old man yelling from his porch for the kids to get off of his lawn. Hate and anger is what I get from it.

  8. - Jocko - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:08 am:

    What’s a wannabe communist?

A firemen who puts out fires free of charge? A librarian who gives away books? Teachers? Social workers? Gary, please save us (exclamation point)

  9. - Joe Bidenopolous - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:08 am:

=And we’re never allowing our kids to be used as political pawns ever again.=

The way you are now? The projection never ends with these people

  10. - Suburbanon - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:09 am:

Red meat GOP Primary - B+/A- Includes some nice historical coattails and blows a couple current dog whistles, but cheap production value.

General Election - F No explanation needed.

  11. - Give Me A Break - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:10 am:

The Illinois GOP, bringing you 1950 Illinois whether you want it or not.

  12. - Joe Bidenopolous - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:10 am:

Adding….it’s an F. Anyone who hates that much gets a permanent F from me. Though I do agree with Flyin’ Elvis’ editorial comments

  13. - Lamb - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:10 am:

Does the campaign have a ring light?

  14. - SWIL_Voter - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:11 am:

Promising not to use kids as political pawns, except this one last time when I’m lying through my teeth about whatever insane thing I read on grandmas Facebook

  15. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:12 am:

===Pat Brady, who for decades billed himself as a moderate Republican and as the go-to GOP guy for Chicago political (especially TV) reporters, is working to nominate Rabine.===

Brady, sadly, jumped the shark (at least publicly to his person) when he argued like a 14 year old with Dan Proft on a stage giving a rare glimpse how dysfunctional the party is/was abd there’s no shame.

    To the ad?

    It’s a C+

    The visual(s)? Ugh.

    This?

===Our kids aren’t racists. Boys aren’t girls. And we’re never allowing our kids to be used as political pawns ever again.===

This might win a primary voter but you just alienated 3-4 general election voters who now might be motivated more against you.

It’s a terrible ad, except for old, angry, white folks.

  16. - Huh? - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:19 am:

    F

“And we’re never allowing our kids to be used as political pawns ever again.”

    The dissembling runs deep.

  17. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:21 am:

D-. Complains about kids being used as political pawns yet shows an image of someone’s kid in a political ad. Gets above an F because at least he knows which side was the right side of the Civil War and the Cold War, which some of his party cannot say.

To drive home the point I’ve made before: No. One. Knows. You. This campaign is on a fast track to a low single digits embarrassment.

  18. - Anthony - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:22 am:

–I still have trouble grasping why Pat Brady—

Odd times… but the ad is surprisingly not terrible. no more “paving the way” though?

  19. - Benjamin - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:22 am:

“Our kids aren’t racists. Boys aren’t girls. And, now that I’ve used our kids as poitical pawns in this ad, nobody else is allowed to use our kids as political pawns ever again.”

Grade: D. I mean, I guess it’s at least in focus and the sound is synced up…

  20. - Pundent - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:22 am:

So Pat Brady has been reduced to bringing back McCarthyism?

It’s a horrible ad which at best plays to the very small minority of angry people which I guess now includes Pat Brady. There simply aren’t enough voters in what’s left of the Illinois Republican party for this strategy to work so I give it a D.

  21. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:25 am:

Lincoln would be an independent or side with Democrats today, and not be a member of the Confederate Republican Party.

Rated B-, because it’s what the base eats up, logic and truth aside. What’s a “wannabe communist?” Someone who’s brought Illinois to better fiscal standing that we are at today? Same old drivel for the GOP base.

  22. - DeeLay - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:31 am:

“And we’re never allowing our kids to be used as political pawns ever again.”

Every accusation is a confession with today’s GOP.

  23. - PublicServant - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:34 am:

    === …but, hey, it’s a free country. ===

For today, yes. But tomorrow …

  24. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:36 am:

The last time I saw someone on screen with a background that dark, Emperor Palpatine was giving orders to Lord Vader.

I give the add a C+ simply because it prompted this reference on May 4.

  25. - zatoichi - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:37 am:

Using words like ‘corruptocrats and wannabe communists’ (right there with socialist, racist, leftist/rightist, extreme, hater, etc) destroy any point being made. Horrible ad.

  26. - skutt - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:40 am:

The idea that Pritzker, a billionaire and heir to the Hyatt fortune, is a ‘wannabe communist’ will never stop being amusing to me.

  27. - Streator Curmudgeon - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:50 am:

    C-

They’re all basically pushing the same GOP buttons. Angry old white men will love it.

But not saying your own name?

Angry old white men, whose memories are starting to fail, will stand in the voting booth asking themselves, “Now who was that guy I liked again?”

  28. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 10:56 am:

If the Reagan administration hadn’t closed mental health facilities perhaps he could have found the help he needs.

  29. - Dirksen - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:00 am:

I guess they didn’t have enough money for lighting.

  30. - Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:12 am:

    Rating D
Too much lecturing as in I have all the answers.

At least there are no scissors.

  31. - Skeptic - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:19 am:

    (1) “…stand in a dark room and rant at me.” Lately it’s been guys sitting in a car and ranting while driving (another thing I’ll never understand.)

Letter (B): “Our kids aren’t racist” I don’t know, has he been to, say, Chicago? Or Carbondale? Or Anna?

And Roman Numeral (3): “Common-sense” needs to be the next banned word.

  32. - JoanP - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:22 am:

    Primary: B
General: Is there some grade lower than an F?

  33. - Amalia - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:23 am:

B for them. America First. jeez….

  34. - vern - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:33 am:

    F. Can’t complain about education policy if you don’t know basic grammar. Since “Democrat” modifies a noun, it’s an adjective, so the proper form would be “Democratic corruptocrats.”

  35. - ArchPundit - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:46 am:

===For too long, Illinois has been known as a haven for Democrat corruptocrats and wannabe communists.

    Republican Madlibs at this point.

  36. - ArchPundit - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:47 am:

Forgot to give it a grade–C. Hits with the really online Republican activists, but not anyone else.

  37. - Roadrager - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 11:56 am:

My cholesterol went up 15 points from having that much red meat flung at me.

May as well resurrect “Before It’s Too Late” as your campaign slogan if this is the route you’ve decided to take.

  38. - duck duck goose - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 12:09 pm:

I used to wonder what people meant when they dismissed Republicans as “reactionaries.” Helpfully, Gary Rabine made a video that cleared it all up for me.

I give this a D. It was slightly more coherent than Bailey’s typical rambling diatribes, but I’m not sure that coherence is to Rabine’s benefit here.

  39. - Excitable Boy - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 12:11 pm:

It must be really tough being born into wealth and inheriting the family business. Rabine just wants to get back to the good old days, where the lords count their money and the serfs keep their mouths shut.

  40. - G'Kar - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 12:55 pm:

F because Rabine forgot the purpose of his grift–to promote his business. He needs to include a paver somewhere in his commercials, err I mean campaign ads./s

Also maybe Brady needed his driveway paved? /double s

  41. - vole - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 1:05 pm:

Is he running for the 3%’er party in the break-away state? What Lincoln and Reagan were fighting against?

  42. - Sir Reel - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 1:15 pm:

It would be more accurate if he said, never allowing our grandkids to be used as political pawns. Maybe great grandkids.

  43. - Pundent - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 2:01 pm:

Rabine could have easily cast himself as the political outsider business man intent on implementing actual common sense while protecting liberties. That might have made him a compelling choice to Irvin. But instead he’s running about as far right as any candidate and it’s gotten him to 7% in the polls. If this is what the “base” wants than the base isn’t going to be a factor here.

  44. - walker - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 4:54 pm:

Brady is same as he ever was

  45. - Travel Guy - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 5:57 pm:

    Who?

  46. - Proud Papa Bear - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 6:04 pm:

    F
Exactly what I’d expect from the guy I saw walking in circles around the Crystal Lake Walmart, barking into his cell phone.
Lord, I hope he gets the nomination. I’d love to see a 30-point Pritzker win.

  47. - Amateur Hour - Wednesday, May 4, 22 @ 6:36 pm:

Rabine= Proof of peter principle (again)
