Question of the day
Monday, May 9, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller * I switched back to an iPhone from an Android model over the weekend. Still having some transfer issues and having to relearn some things, but it was a necessary move. I’m not looking back. * The Question: What mobile device do you use and have you recently considered switching or not? Explain.

Once upon a time I switched from a Blackberry to an iPhone and hadn’t looked back. If Android ever catches up to iPhone then I’d consider switching. Better yet if any other hardware manufacturers could catch up to Apple at all!
- Just Me 2 - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:30 pm:
Always been an iPhone person. I love how it syncs with my laptop and even my television. I get a new one every two years by waiting for the newest one to come out and I get the one it is replacing.
- Huh? - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:31 pm:
Personal use - Samsung Galaxy 20.
Work - iphone 7?
The 2 don’t mix. They are tools, the interface is not much different. Don’t care about the behind the scenes inner workings. Didn’t want to spend extra for apple brand name.
- LakeCo - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:33 pm:
I am and forever will be Android (and PC). I know Apple is supposed to be intuitive but I don’t find it to be, at all.
- JoanP - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:33 pm:
iPhone SE (an older one). I like it fine, haven’t considered switching.
- Benjamin - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:35 pm:
Android. Apple products have always rubbed me the wrong way. (Also, what am I, made of money?)
- JS Mill - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:35 pm:
iphone, latest model whatever that is. I made the switch from android as well. It took a while to get used to the iphone.
- Louis G Atsaves - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:40 pm:
Apple IPhone. Syncs with all my other Apple devices and doubles as a TV remote, even when on the road in a hotel.
- clec dcn - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:43 pm:
I am an expert on this now. I just upgraded my iphone 8 to and iphone 12. I much prefer the 12 bigger screen and it is nice. I did not want to learn another system although I could. Att had big sale but be careful. I bought one through them on internet they messed up gave me another line. Then I had to send it back so I could get another one at the local ATT store. This is when buying one on line is horrible. My apple has always been great and I had no reason to fix anything. Phone ok decent price but you have to budget for new Otterbox they are not cheap and I need something good. Good luck Rich I hope you have an easier time than I did the last 3 weeks.
- Andersonville Right Winger - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:43 pm:
Android. I am too used to it to switch.
- MisterJayEm - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:47 pm:
An ancient Samsung Galaxy.
I have considered switching because Apple has better customer surveillance practices, but inertia has kept me from making any moves.

- JDuc - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:48 pm:
iPhone11. Been using Apple for most of the time since Blackberry went away. Tried android for a year in between, would never go back.
- Retired SURS Employee - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:49 pm:
Always had an I-phone. Then again, I also have always used Macs, except when I was at work. Typing this on a 14 inch MacBook Pro.
- Peanut Gallery - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:53 pm:
iPhone forever
- Pundent - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:54 pm:
iPhone 12. We’re an Apple house and the seamless integration across the iPad, iMac, MacBook can’t be beat.
- Arsenal - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:54 pm:
Always been on iPhones. I doubt they’re really much superior to anything else, but I’m used to how they work, and we have a lot of other apple stuff that it plays nicely with.
- Give Me A Break - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:56 pm:
iphone 13 which I did not want but was given to me when a local provider caused my previous iphone to crash when they were trying to do an update and data transfer.
The phone does not have a “home button” and takes forever to figure out how to use. Not a fan.
- Nick Name - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:57 pm:
Switched from Andriod to iPhone ten or so years ago and will never go back.
- Amalia - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 3:58 pm:
Apple all the way.
- Al - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:09 pm:
In January switched from Samsung to Motorola. The next phone will probably be Apple as they emit half the radiation.
- cermak_rd - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:09 pm:
I run an iPhone SE of some ilk. Like it well.
I have a huge collection of language apps and dictionaries as well as music apps (tuners, metronomes, accompaniments).
I also have an iPad that I can hook up my USB interface to use my 2 XLR mics to record raw audio, then I have a really nice app on the iPAD for processing that (Cubasis 3) also can hook a USB keyboard up and compose music with Doraco.

“Hold on, let me finish, let me finish, let me finish. Let me, let me, let me finish. Let me finish. Let me, let me finish. And, you know, as I said…iPhone 13.”
- bkhartbnjo - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:16 pm:
Android. I’m way too cheap to pay more than $149.99 for a phone.
- New Day - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:16 pm:
iPhone 13. Would not switch - too much pain and I use an ipad so integration is hugely helpful.
- Justin - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:17 pm:
Android.
- Wensicia - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:18 pm:
Just updated to 5G Samsung, with years of software and security updates. $130. I can’t afford an iPhone.
- Michelle Flaherty - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:20 pm:
iPhone all the way. Love the convenience of information and communication instantly crossing from my watch to my phone to my laptop. Given my attention span, this is a tremendous life resource.
- Drake Mallard - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:25 pm:
Android
After reading about the labor horror stories in Apples Chinese factories, I will never buy an iPhone.
- Homebody - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:31 pm:
My first smart phone was an iPhone 3GS. After that one I switched to the Nexus then Pixel series and never looked back. Significant savings, no significant loss of features, and I prefer the google environment over the Apple environment.
Currently on a Pixel 3, which I got shortly after the 4 was released to catch the lower price. I’ll probably be upgrading at some point this year as I’m just starting to notice slowdowns with newer apps as software continues to bloat.
- muon - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:32 pm:
I use an Android and my traveling partner uses an iPhone. I use Verizon and she uses AT&T. We like road trips off the beaten path. Together we are almost certainly going to get service if anyone can.
- Manchester - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:43 pm:
Iphone SE. Got the new version last year. I prefer the smaller size. Fits better in my jeans pocket. I’ve had a iphone since version 3.
- Anyone Remember - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:47 pm:
Android. When the commercial below was made, Apple was the person throwing the sledgehammer. Today, Apple is the person on the screen.

- Demoralized - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:50 pm:
Android for me. I use a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 phone. Fits great in your pocket.
- lake county democrat - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:51 pm:
Started Android, now iPhone. Much happier now - no huge complaints with Android but everything meshes better with iPhone and I appreciate that Apple is proactive in limiting 3rd party use of my data. Only downside is that the iPhone file directory is less accessible if you want to move files in/out.
- Back to the Future - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 4:52 pm:
Always been an Apple user.
IPhone is reliable and works well with my IPad.
- Farm Boy - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 5:11 pm:
iPhone 11 Pro Max. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to an android.
- The Dude Abides - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 5:20 pm:
I currently have an iPhone XR. I’ve had it two years. My next phone will be another iPhone. I’m familiar with the OS and like how it syncs up with other Apple devices.
- PublicServant - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 5:32 pm:
iPhone SX Max. But I hate how they suck you in to Appleland.
- JR - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 5:35 pm:
From Blackberry in 2005 (I miss them) to Android (Samsung 21) now and never looked back.
- jackmac - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 5:43 pm:
Longtime iphone user. I also have a MacBook Air, iPads and a Mac Mini and I’ve been an Apple user since the late ’80s. Call me an Apple cultist, but I like how everything — including email, texts and photos — work and move seamlessly between products.
- Nick - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 5:45 pm:
Android.
Never owned any apple products sans an Ipod Nano once upon a time, don’t intend to try now.
- Ducky LaMoore - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 6:16 pm:
I absolutely loved my Windows phone. Don’t know why it didn’t catch on. But I say the same thing about Gary Johnson. Went through half a dozen androids, switched to Apple 4 years ago. I doubt I would ever go to anything else.
- Mr. iPhone - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 6:24 pm:
I have been on both and have come to hate them about equally. I give Google the edge on software/services (maps, email, photos) and Apple the slight edge on hardware and OS. But don’t expect to have fewer headaches post-switch.
- FormerParatrooper - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 6:34 pm:
I use Android. First smart phone was thru the job and I am used to it. Granddaughter has an iPhone, said all the cool kids have them. Guess I won’t be a cool kid.
- Barnaby Wilde - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 7:45 pm:
iPhone 13 Pro. Brother Devin Miller should get a commission, because seeing his Rolling Stones pics sold me on it.
- IllinoisGuy - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 8:16 pm:
Honestly, I moved from Android to Apple years ago. I am now so invested in Apple content/Apps that I have purchased over the years that it would be difficult (and expensive) to switch. Maybe that’s where they get ya.
- Cook Street - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 8:49 pm:
Chromebook computer and android phone. Might someday switch to iPhone but”can’t teach old dogs new tricks” keeps running though my mind.
- Snarkie from Schaumburg - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 8:59 pm:
A BlackBerry running MS-DOS
- Ok - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 9:21 pm:
I will go out on a limb and guess that what you didn’t like about Android was all the iPhone users doing this:
Liked “I will go out on a limb and guess that what you didn’t like about Android was all the iPhone users doing this:”
- Ok - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 9:26 pm:
And the answer is simply Android because it’s Google everything (Gmail, calendar, maps, drive, etc), and Apple doesn’t do that as well as native android. My phone does the all the easy stuff for me, including lately answering calls for me. It pulls events right from email. It tells me when I have to leave to make it to my next meeting on time.
The only point of having an iPhone would be to FaceTime other people with iPhones.
- phenom_Anon - Monday, May 9, 22 @ 11:22 pm:
Switched from a Pixel to an iPhone, primary reason was because of how many people I deal with who use iPhones. It’s amazing how much work Apple goes to to make their products incompatible with everything else. That said, I have a macbook and the integration is great. But with both the macbook and the iphone, everything takes more steps.
- bored now - Tuesday, May 10, 22 @ 6:13 am:
iphone. wouldn’t switch. android is probably fine, though, for most people…
- Pacman - Tuesday, May 10, 22 @ 6:52 am:
Nothing but iPhones, iMacs, and iPads in our home.

===A BlackBerry running MS-DOS===
I know I’m late to the post, but wanted to say I love this. I miss WordPerfect 3.1…
That said: personal–iPhone, even though I am PC for all my other personal computing. Work–Android, because I have no choice. Just got an “upgrade” on the work phone and it’s making me crazy with glitches. But I suppose it could also be user error…That said, would never consider giving up my iPhone.
- Anthony - Tuesday, May 10, 22 @ 8:01 am:
Apple iPhone, probably 9 or 10
Have wanted something different for many years but there is no solid alternative
- itsjustme - Tuesday, May 10, 22 @ 9:53 am:
iphone12 mini, which is unfortunately still bigger than the original very first iphone. Clearly I’ve been iphone forever, but i’m the weirdo that wants my phone to be smaller, not larger. I consider cell phones to be cameras i can text with.
