Any metrics yet released on the Proft polling? Seems fishy.

    Good Nascar Race Sunday
Enjoy Illinois 300 ( State Tourism Promo )
But think the announcers focused on St Louis

Also as a longtime member am offended by Moose sponsoring a Nascar entry and by the American Legion sponsoring Indy 500 cars. Misuse of dues.

A current student of mine passed away, last Friday, and it has shaken me. She was “almost 19,” and a really engaged student. The student had those eyes that made you know she understood the bigger picture (I am a sociologist), and her simple smile was a beautiful affirmation every time she grasped that bigger picture.

Teaching is such an interpersonal process, and requires we know our students and they know us, if learning is to occur. I value each of my student-teacher relationships, but some are so much more rewarding, and make me feel like I am making a difference. This was one of those relationships. Her loss is personal. Truly sad. I cannot even begin to imagine what her parents must be going through right now.

Illinois native Dan Fogelberg once wrote a song titled, Magic Every Moment, with the lyric, “And it made me realize how very fragile is this life that we so love.”

    So it is.

Red - you should be even more offended by the way the guy driving the Moose car raced. Not a great reflection of your organization.

Maybe, but the problem all those organizations have is an aging membership. My Dad was in the Lions and his chapter is gone now due to guys dying off. At least it seems like they are trying to attract younger people.

Sorry for the loss H-W. Be well.

Saw this headline in the Washington Post: “The foul-mouthed former mayor known for insulting his employees could be Colombia’s next president” and wondered why Rahm Emanuel was running for president of Colombia.

  8. - Grimlock - Tuesday, Jun 7, 22 @ 9:56 am:

Are we going to talk about the Devore incident in the hotel with the married woman? It was posted on the Springfield Leaks Facebook page yesterday. They have police body camera footage but no police report was generated.

    “organizations have an aging membership”

Was a Mason, for about five minutes. The bulk of the meetings consisted of fossils bemoaning that prices weren’t the same as they were forty years ago.

Had better things to do with my Tuesday evenings.

Um, you mean the story that was posted and discussed here pretty extensively last week?

  12. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jun 7, 22 @ 10:16 am:

Grimlock, we’ll be getting back to the story in a bit.

The issue isn’t limited to the more traditional rural service and veterans organizations. The old traditional urban members-only clubs are suffering from many of the same problems, exacerbated by the fact that so few people are working in urban downtowns these days.

    Ron Burgandy:

Same thing I see in my town. Our Lions Club has been active for something like 80 years. We do get a few new members from time to time, but we’ve only gotten three of the younger variety in the past year. We’ll need more than that if our club is to survive in the future. The youngsters do not seem as interested in joining anything that many of us are familiar with. We’re not the only club experiencing it either.

Good Point ( as Harry said: He hit everything but the Pace Car )

The conspiracy theorists will be very disappointed to learn they are not causing the inflation. /s

If you can, check out the Homewood Acres Volunteer Fire Dept. GoFundMe page. 4 juveniles broke in over Memorial Day and did some $100,000 in damage to part of the station. While insured, they have some costs not being covered. https://www.firehouse.com/stations/video/21269632/help-homewood-acres-il-fire-dept-recover-after-kids-trash-fire-station

Sounds like Grampa Simpson was one of the members.

I lived in a smaller town that was very community oriented. Kiwanis and Rotary had over 100 members each (many under 40) while other similar groups were sizable. Strong employer support. Many events that raised money that was spent in town. Moved to a different similar sized town where those same groups are struggling to survive. Why? Nowhere near the same local community orientation or employer support. Basic attitude: “Why do that?” and “What is in it for me?”. Local club meetings very dry. Pretty hard adjustment and tough to attract people.

My lodge is pretty vibrant. Over 1/2 of our members are under 50. We focus a lot on charitable events in our town. Like most civic/fraternal groups, it depends on the groups purpose and the ability to keep that front and center. Makes the boring business parts of the meetings tolerable.

However, the Illuminati are predominantly over 250. I think one guy is 325 but he doesn’t look a day over 299. /s
