Question of the day
Wednesday, Jun 15, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller * We’re gonna have a little bit of fun today. A recent Personal PAC mailer… Click the pic for the full piece. * Now, let’s zoom in… Hmm. Martwick’s been in a band for years. I’ve seen him play. * Here’s Martwick singing an original tune, entitled, um, “It’s All About Me”… Click here for a more recent video. * The Question: Is Personal PAC right that Martwick can’t carry a tune? Take the poll and then explain your answer in comments, please.

And, yes, the question is a double negative. I figured the confusion the wording created would just be part of the fun.
- Bruce( no not him) - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 10:40 am:
I’ve listened to many a band that couldn’t carry a tune. The performance was the point. Not the music.
- Norseman - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 10:40 am:
My uncategorized response:
Was there a tune to carry?
I watched the video and I regret the few minutes it took from my life.
- cover - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 10:45 am:
Didn’t watch the video, but I did look at the “two heads” pictures in the mailer. Statler and Waldorf make any day better.
- Skeptic - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 10:46 am:
Nevermind the question, but Statler and Waldorf on a campaign flyer?
- Hello Friend - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 10:48 am:
When it comes to mailers, I like the idea BUT can you use famous figures as fair use?
Also, he’s no Eddie Vedder but when I’m going to a bar I’m getting what I pay for.
- Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 10:55 am:
Do you really want people making comparisons of your preferred candidates to Beavis and Butthead?
- Needs Deleted - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 10:55 am:
Yes. The man is better than Sinatra.
- ChrisB - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:00 am:
I guess he skipped that answer on the questionnaire.
Also hope he doesn’t get sued for that opening bass line. Thought it was a Led Zeppelin cover at first.
Voted no. Wasn’t off key and sounded like many a band I’ve heard at a bar.
- PublicServant - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:01 am:
I think he does alright for a politician, but Springsteen he ain’t.
- twowaystreet - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:06 am:
Does a decent job with a tune. I’d go see him play, but wouldn’t pay for it.
Also, I’d like to motion that Rob present all future bills on the Senate floor in the form of song.
- muon - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:12 am:
Back in the day when COWL held its Capitol Capers fundraiser then Rep Martwick did a fine job holding a tune.
- Pius - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:13 am:
Yes he can, in the Johnny Cash style.
- Staffer - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:16 am:
Folks in the comment section - You haven’t been fortunate enough to see Rob sing/play guitar with the Whiskey Caucus, and it shows
- Just Sayin - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:28 am:
The mailer forgot to include Bert and Ernie.
- Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:32 am:
Eyes and ears are burning from the video. Wes Montgomery’s legacy is safe.
- Groucho - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:48 am:
I voted based on he could sing for a grunge band. I can’t see him singing Sinatra.
- Leslie K - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 11:55 am:
I voted “I didn’t watch” but actually then I did. He’s a man having fun and entertaining. Can’t say anything bad about that.
And that mailer is what I was so happy about a few days ago in the open thread. It made me laugh out loud, but the actual content said something. He knows how to have fun while still being serious. Something I think we need more of.
- Thomas Paine - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 12:09 pm:
The FOP has flipped its endorsement, they do not want Martwick to quit his day job. /s
- ArchPundit - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 12:11 pm:
He’s fine. It fits the song.
==Nevermind the question, but Statler and Waldorf on a campaign flyer?
That’s great–it’s hard to get people to pay attention to a political mailer. This one would make me look twice at least.
- H-W - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 12:30 pm:
Voted no. His vocals are fine, especially at the amateur level. Now, if we were to ask about that lead guitar piece, I would have vote the other way. It was a little to slow to be considered a “slow hands” rendition.
- yinn - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 12:44 pm:
Voted no. I’ve got no quarrel with his voice, but found the tempo a bit slow in the first and the energy not quite right in the second.
- Gladhander - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 12:48 pm:
Rob Martwick and his band are darn good. Should have a battle of the bands between his and Senate President Harmon’s.
- Just Sayin - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 1:25 pm:
How about another choice: “At Least It’s Better than Blago as Elvis.”
- Just Sayin - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 1:27 pm:
“Tonight at Weebles and tomorrow at Curve Inn: Captain Geech with special guest Rob Martwick.”
- Skeptic - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 2:35 pm:
I’ve heard much worse, including in the shower. And actually it’s a cool tune. Got a quizzical look from the dog when the guitar kicked in though.
- Perrid - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 2:36 pm:
I think he was fine. Certainly better than me. A politician singing a song called “All about me” is a bit too on the nose though.
- Boomerang - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 2:37 pm:
He does all right for a state Senator from midwestern state. Though, he ain’t ready for Vegas yet.
- Cosgrove - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 4:00 pm:
I must have missed Rob’s Grammy award. I’ve consulted my attorney and she believes we will dodge a credible defamation suit. I humbly await Rob’s cease and desist order. I hope Rob will accept Personal PAC’s sincere apology. The tune he does carry quite well is his 100% pro-choice voting record which rhymes perfectly with it’s pro-choice or no choice sung in B flat.
- 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 4:13 pm:
“I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem may have been that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf.”
- Amalia - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 4:21 pm:
this is fun, but until the ballots are counted, I’m worried about this primary fight. not enough Martwick signs around.
- Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 4:57 pm:
Extremism in the defense of music is no vice…didn’t listen.
- Uptown Funk - Wednesday, Jun 15, 22 @ 6:58 pm:
Martwick ripped off “How Many More Times” by Led Zeppelin which was already a rip off of Willie Dixon IIRC. His guitar playing could use some work too lol
- Flexible One - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 11:08 am:
Perfect pitch probably not but I enjoyed the video. Nice job Rob
