Back in 2009 it was the then-new Benld grade school that was destroyed by mine subsidence. Now it’s Springfield Lutheran HS on the far west side; the original 1978 building is now uninhabitable except for their 2017 addition:
The former Brother James Court campus, which recently closed, off Camp Butler Road on the northeast side of the city would IMO make a great alternative for a new or temporary Lutheran High.

The Illinois State Geological Society (at UIUC) has an interactive map of past coal mine sites. Basically all of Springfield except for the original city core, and the far southwest side, and around the lake, lie on former coal mine grounds that are subject to subsidence issues.
I think I’m circling around to La Russa being fun. He’s a bad manager, sure, but he’s bad in such inventive ways that Sox games are kinda appointment television now. New innovations in triple plays, 2 strike intentional walks, who knows what’s next? If they’re not gonna win, may as well do wacky hijinks.
something that hasn’t gotten much attention due to the shooting is the story about the off duty CPD officer in Park Ridge who had a Puerto Rican 14 year old boy pinned down on the ground over allegedly stealing a bicycle, a damn bicycle. who knows what would’ve happened if the boy’s mostly white friends hadn’t intervened to get the fully grown male off the boy’s back. absolutely disgusting. have Moylan/Murphy said anything?
30th ward liberal - yep, video is pretty good evidence that guy (allegedly CPD) was way out of line — if he thought physical restraint of the kid was necessary why did he let him up so quickly upon verbal only urging of the buddies, a bunch of kids.
There’s a huge market if they can re-invent themselves as the next ‘loveable losers’.
The only requirement is that the last World Series win be a hundred years ago - or if most people have just completely forgotten the last one no longer how long ago it was.
The sox are a huge disappointment this year. In all phases of the game. Easily the most underperforming team in baseball. The manager, I don’t even know what to say there. If he had any integrity he would resign.
That triple play was the end of the season. Displaying a complete lack of baseball knowledge to gain a loss rather than a win. The Kopech debacle the following night was just icing on the cake.
Reinsdorf will never fire LaRussa, so everybody stop asking.
Not to be outdone by the Sox, the Cubs also found a way to lose in ten innings on Monday after another baseball rarity - inside the park home run by Suzuki.
Watching today’s game, after the last 2 nights, makes it clear the Twins are the vastly superior team. Vastly. Can’t believe the Sox may be sellers this year.

How is Tony Larussa still the manager of the Chicago White Sox? They are bad at the plate, in the field, on the bases, and they lose close games.

Exactly… a team that completely under performs and actually hit into an 8-5 triple play… these are reasons managers get fired!

I’d rather they win.

Kind of sounds like LaRussa’s “innovations” while with the Cardinals.

If only the general manager ran the team and not the owner and his toady who gets the washed up free agents of his choosing.

Techie is correct. The only logical person to blame for the White Sox performance this year is former Speaker Madigan.
