All’s well that ends well, I suppose
Thursday, Aug 18, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller * From Tina Sfondeles’ Governors Day story…
We talked about this yesterday as well. The Bailey campaign told me last night that their original order did, indeed, have the correct “FireJBPritzker.org” website address, but the advertising company created a banner that mistakenly contained a “.com” domain address. Oops… As soon as they saw the photo I took yesterday, they ordered the plane to land. It only circled twice, I think. I wondered at the time why it suddenly disappeared. Anyway, the plane will return to the skies over the fairgrounds during today’s Republican Day festivities with, hopefully, the proper signage. …Adding… And here it is…

It’s so hard to find good help these days.
- the 647 - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:26 am:
Maybe cut Nathanial some slack, and black out his phone number and email?
- Needs Deleted - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:26 am:
Years after this campaign concludes this will be the thing people remember.
- Langhorne - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:27 am:
Who’s phone number is on the form?
- Dotnonymous - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:28 am:
If at first you don’t succeed…maybe you’re just incompetent?
- Baloneymous - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:29 am:
They should get a refund and move on. Plane banners are just goofy in my opinion. But I guess on Republican day they can enjoy their own the libs moment.
- King Louis XVI - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:30 am:
There’s a thing called a “proof.” Sloppy campaign.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:32 am:
If you can’t handle the details of… (checks notes)… a silly phony banner and confirming it’s correct….
Couldn’t have them show you the banner before it goes up?
So limited in staff and crew, couldn’t send anyone over to look at the banner before takeoff?
So very telling.

Nothing to add about the politics, but having each line on the banner order form be a tiny banner towed by a tiny plane is adorable.
- Pundent - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:43 am:
I think we’ll look back upon this mistake in November and wonder what could have been.
- vern - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:50 am:
Not the kind of thing that will assuage Uihlein’s concerns though…
- Lurker - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:50 am:
This reminds me of a few years ago when we played the game of finding mistakes in the Stare Fair publications. There were so many misspellings, grammar errors, etc. Pritzker was spelled three different ways.
- Bruce( no not him) - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:57 am:
This is the thing we’ll look back and say “ this is what lost Bailey the election”
- Bruce( no not him) - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 9:59 am:
Forgot the /s
It was on the original order form
- TheInvisibleMan - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 10:04 am:
The Bailey campaign had to spend the time to show everyone it wasn’t them who was incompetent, it was the people they personally hired.
That’s… not much better.
- Rich Miller - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 10:06 am:
===had to spend the time===
Meh. We talked about a lot of things.
- Vote Quimby - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 10:23 am:
Take it easy on Nate…. from the ColdSpark page it says he is a Pirates fan. That’s just brutal to have rooting interests in two lost causes in a single year.
- Publius - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 11:07 am:
Rich sounds like Bailey should put you on the payroll.
- Rich Miller - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 11:17 am:
Publius, bite me.
- Earnest - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 11:39 am:
But will Bailey voters type in the new URL? That sign came into this world with a .com at the end. Cutting that off and adding a .org is tantamount to changing its pronoun.
- Pundent - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 12:39 pm:
Whether Bailey was responsible for the error or the advertising company isn’t particularly meaningful. What does matter is that of all the different platforms and messages that Bailey could choose from this is where he landed. Kind of like having a CRT and sex ed rally where a few dozen people show up. Bailey continues to show that he’s more interested in low brow stunts instead of being a serious candidate.
- Big Dipper - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 12:56 pm:
Will the erroneous banner get shot at like the budget?
- sal-says - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 4:26 pm:
So. “The Bailey campaign” didn’t bother to verify the wording/spelling ?
Outstanding; more of the same mediocrity/oversights.
- NorthsideNoMore - Thursday, Aug 18, 22 @ 6:30 pm:
Will they be flying banner over North Ave Beach this weekend ?
